A Happy Hamstring Update

I wouldn’t go so far as to say my hamstring is happy, but I am happy because my hamstring is finally getting better.

Messy hair, and really don’t care!

Weekly Run Down

If you saw my runfessions, you know I am convinced my hamstring finally is really healing, although it is still finicky and susceptible to flare-ups. For the past few weeks I haven’t felt  it during the running intervals of my run + walk stints on the treadmill, but this week I also noticed not feeling it when I got up from my desk and walked around my office. 🤞

Sunday: I really enjoyed Hannah’s Valentine’s Day ride. She dedicated each song to a different type of relationship status and shared funny stories from her own love life. 💘

Monday: While President’s Day was a holiday for my office, I had to work on the “homework”  some of the Senators sent as a follow-up to the hearing I testified at (officially called “Questions for the Record” that I need to answer). I still took time for a leisurely workout including Susie and JTR’s “Galentine’s day” class.

Tuesday: I don’t take many cycling classes with Matt Wilpers because he mostly does Powerzone classes (which work best if you’ve done a pre-test to find out your levels, and I haven’t done that) but his basic classes are full of form tips and coaching gems, and this new beginner class was no exception.

Wednesday: I used Marcel’s walk to both walk Scooby and do my PT exercises, and then hopped on the tread to do my own run/walk intervals during Camils’ Green Day run—it would be a great class to take again when I am healthy enough to push myself.

Thursday: I got hit by the ATT outage while walking Scooby, so I didn’t get to finish Logan’s walk. After doing Adrian’s strength class at home, I headed to my office gym to use the Peloton bike. I was surprised at how busy the gym was at 6:30 am—there were four others there.😱

Friday: I took some detours from my 2:1 run/walk intervals during Jess’s Nicki Minaj run and probably did more than my hamstring was ready for, but it felt good in the moment. I didn’t follow her crazy cuing, but did my own variations on some of her intervals.

Saturday: I wasn’t planning to take Scooby for a test run, but when Andy’s new run aligned with mild temperatures (in the 40s), I couldn’t resist. We covered 2-ish miles at a very easy pace, and it felt so good! My hamstring wasn’t completely silent afterwards, but I think it will be OK after a day off.

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Did you have President’s Day off?

Finicky February Runfessions

Even though February is extra long this year, it’s already the last Friday of the month. That means it’s time to gather at the runfessional hosted at  Marcia’s Healthy Slice where we can cleanse our souls soles before we head into March.

Working and Playing In NYC

Usually my business trips to NYC are all work and no play, but this time I planned ahead and was able to spend an afternoon with Carianne as my tour guide.

View from my office conference room

Working and Playing in NYC

We started at MoMa because I wanted to see the Picasso in Fontainbleau exhibit. The museum website has better photos, but I am sharing this one because the hand-written date is so prominent—and has such a different meaning than the dates we usually see.

We wandered through other exhibits and saw so many “famous” pieces—it was a real treat. I sent a picture of this Dali to my daughter because she gave me the puzzle version.

After browsing the MoMa gift shops, we headed to the Museum of Art and Design, which I had suggested because of the craft exhibit. Little did I know there was a Taylor Swift exhibit, which was fitting to see a few hours before her boyfriend was playing in the Superbowl. 😉 The exhibit focused on costumes from her many “eras”.

After all that, we were ready for an early dinner. While we were waiting for our food we noticed our twinning Peloton x Little Words Project bracelets.

The only photo of us we remembered to take!

Other highlights of my trip to NYC included the pretty snow Tuesday morning

that cleared out in time for a lovely sunset in the evening.

And thebeautiful church I found for Ash Wednesday service.

Weekly Run Down

There was no running in NYC, except for a short stint on the hotel tread. I haven’t used this hotel gym in years, and don’t think it’s changed much. It has all the equipment but was so warm, I wouldn’t have lasted much longer on the tread any way.

Sunday: I got up early to fit in a workout before heading to the train station.

D.C.s’ Union Station lobby

Monday: First hotel gym workout, with a focus on strength.

Tuesday: A little bit of everything. Jess’s tread class had a lot of walking so I was mostly able to follow her programming.

Wednesday: I only had time for a short workout because I wanted to get packed up and ready to check out before heading to an early Ash Wednesday service. Jess Sims’ Flash 15 classes are perfect for that, because you definitely feel like it was “enough.”

Thursday: Back home and catching up on Peloton Valentine’s Day classes. Matty’s walk and Matt’s run were a fun contrast with different takes on the “holiday.”

Friday: I ended the week with a long stack of shorter workouts. Andy’s Green Day class was really good and left me with more DOMS than I expected.

Saturday: I took my 900th Peloton run! I wasn’t planning on taking Hannah’s live class because it started so “late” (8:30), but after sleeping in and doing the core and lower body classes I had planned, it was 8:15, so I did some PT exercises and hopped on the tread.

Don’t worry, I didn’t run for 45 min. I did a longer walking warm-up, about 35 min of 2:1 run/walk intervals, and a walking cool-down.

I’m not going to jinx myself, but my hamstring has been a lot quieter this week. I have continued to run pain-free during my 2:1 intervals, with less and less flare-up afterwards. 🤞

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Trying Hard To Be Hopeful

Another week, another emotional roller coaster ride courtesy of my hamstring. There were ecstatic moments of hope and frustrated moments of tears. If you’re tired of this saga, so am I—but I won’t be offended if you skip this update.
