Running Through The Fog

We had all the weather last week, from snow on Monday to temperatures in the 60s today. We also had a crazy amount of fog that even followed me to Chicago. I forget that I get blind running through the fog as much as I do running in rain, but at least my shirt stays dry for wiping off my glasses.

Foggy Chicago Riverwalk view!

Running Through The Fog

After a week of skiing, it was nice to be back to my basement gym and running with Scooby before a quick trip to Chicago for work.

Sunday I hit my basement gym hard with a 45 min Jess Sims strength class and 30 min Peloton ride.

Monday I took Scooby out for a not-so-dark o’clock run, and enjoyed a bit of daylight during the last mile.

Tuesday I paired core and full body strength classes and then rounded out my workout with a 10 min treadmill hike (=steep incline). I had planned a 20 min ride, but ran out of time.

Wednesday I took Scooby out for a run before heading to the airport.

Yep, my glasses are foggy.

Thursday I woke up to warm (OK, low 40s) and foggy weather in Chicago and headed out for a 60 min run. My usual entrance to the Riverwalk was closed, but I didn’t think twice before going down the next open staircase. I did notice there weren’t as many people as usual, but was suprised when I got to the end and was locked in!

Apparently the Riverwalk opens at 6:00 am, and whoever was supposed to open it up was late for work! I decided to backtrack to Michigan Avenue and head over to Cloudgate. There was only one other couple there, and we swapped photo-taking.

I love how the lights reflected on the sculpture reflect on the ground too!

I decided to take a chance that the Riverwalk would be open, and ran to the Lakefront trail to do the “back” portion of my planned out-and-back.

There was zero visibility across the lake

Luckily the Riverwalk entrance gate was open for my run back.

With all the detours, I ended up with 5.5 miles instead of my planned 6, but it was a great way to start a long day of meetings.

Friday I did a 10 min Peloton walk while I trekked from the TSA checkpoint to my gate at C1. By the way, I had no issues with TSA delays at DCA or ORD, but I had the TSA touchless ID for these flights which is the fastest option.

Saturday I was back home for another foggy run with Scooby. I added an extra loop around the park to hit 6 miles.

Scooby looks so serious!

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Chicago peeps—is closing off the Riverwalk new? I know I’ve run there before 6 am many times.

  1. It’s so funny you mention fog because it’s been super foggy in Philly too, including this morning! I guess it could be worse, haha!

I still have never been to Chicago – I’m glad you weren’t trapped on your run! I’m glad things are finally starting to warm up.

Just noticed the Scooby shirt in your selfie with Scooby, love it!

What is happening with all this fog??? Everyone is mentioning it. Well, we didn’t have fog here- just heat. Anyway it must be really hard to run in the fog with glasses!
Scooby looks like he’s thinking deep thoughts in that photo, lol.

  3. Darlene S Cardillo says:

We had fog here today and rain yesterday and snow Tuesday. What strange weather week.

I love how you run wherever you go… I too like to run in new places. I wish however I traveled more.

  4. That must have been frustrating encountering all those closed gates! I have run in Chicago several times, but I guess my run times were well after all the gates had been opened. The pic with the Bean is great…all those reflections are so artsy (though by accident, LOL).

  5. Debbie says:

I’m sure Scooby was happy that your trip to Chicago was a short one. It’s nice seeing the two of you running together regularly again!

I don’t think I ever went down to the lake to run before 6 AM when we used to visit our son and d-i-l in Chicago other than when I ran in the Spring Chicago Half Marathon so I’m no help. Cool Bean pic, though!

  6. Susanne says:

Nice running this week but whoa, being locked in?? I would be a bit freaked out! But at least there was the entrance you came from!
Fog is so beautiful. I love the moodiness it gives to photos. I love your photo over the lake.

  7. Melissa says:

We had some crazy fog this week too. Also, I love that you did a Peloton walking workout while at the airport – what a great use of your time! I’m flying this week and hoping for no delays, but I know that may not be the case.

  8. Wendy says:

I wasn’t aware that the Riverwalk closed at night–not sure if that’s something new! Your photo in front of the bean is amazing! See, that’s what I like about fog–very cool photo ops, lol

  9. So the fog was a thing everywhere! I didn’t mention in my blog but it plagued me all week. We used the touchless ID service for the first time on this trip in Detroit. Very convenient and we had no wait at all! Since I missed my flight on my last trip, I made sure I got the airport extra early. I’m a reformed flyer 🙂
    Great picture of Cloudgate!

It’s always fun to run along the riverwalk. I’ve never been there early enough to be the only one!!LOL I guess that has its benefits too. What a crazy weather week we’ve had
