Average April Runfessions

It’s already the last Friday in April which means it’s time to head over to the runfessional at Marcia’s Healthy Slice where we can cleanse our souls soles before we head into May.

Average April Runfessions

I runfess my running lately has been nothing to write home about, but average is better than below average, so I’m going to embrace my no-news-is-good-news status and be grateful for every mediocre mile. I really enjoy my 30ish minute treadmill runs and my weekend runs with Scooby, and if they are barely adding up to 15 miles a week, so be it.

Slightly above-average mileage thanks to longer weekday runs in NYC and Chicago

I runfess that one above-average thing about my running is how much I sweat. 🥵 I realized my Peloton bike stays much drier if I wear a headband, and even though I don’t notice it so much on my tread, my headband is always sopping wet when I’m done. 🫣

I runfess that even though I have new running shoes, I packed my old shoes for running in New York City and Chicago. I didn’t want to risk landing in a puddle in Central Park, and didn’t know what weather I’d face in Chicago, so I decided to play it safe.

After all that, Scooby landed on my shoe with muddy paws, but I runfess I got out the dish soap and scrub brush to try to get them clean.

I runfess that I am getting nervous about the Lawyers Have Heart 10K in May. I literally haven’t raced in over a year! I need to set a realistic goal so I don’t go too hard and get injured, but I know a realistic goal will bring my average down. ~sigh~

Do you try to keep new running shoes clean?

You’re more than ready for your 10K! You’ve logged five runs over 6 miles this past month — that’s solid prep. Plus, you’re playing it smart and staying injury-free, which is half the battle. I’m excited to see how you will do, Coco!

  2. Marcia says:

Yes I definitely try to keep my running shoes clean and I’d be leaving them at home as well. Haha! Who knows what Chicago will dish up? Sweat is good! I’m sure you will be great at your race.

  3. Michelle says:

I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying some pain-free running – that’s a huge win! I bet it will feel different to toe the line next month, but I know you’ll do great.

I like the color of your new shoes – I runfess that I’m terrible with lighter colors and would probably get them dirty shortly after being out of the box 😉

  4. Jenny says:

Ha! Luckily my new running shoes are dark gray- I’ve had light colored shoes in the past and it never ends well.
I would embrace the “no news is good news” mentality. You are running! Nothing hurts! You’ll be totally ready for your race next month. Realistic goals are a good thing.

  5. I do like to keep my shoes clean but that never happen! I think you are more than ready for a 10K. Setting realistic goals sure helps! These days, I only look at trying to hit my daily steps and strength goals and not focus on what was.

  6. I echo Catrina’s sentiment. You are ready and you’re injury-free 😉 I’m in total agreement on keeping the new shoes as cleans as possible for as long as possible! Much easier said than done, LOL.

  7. Darlene S Cardillo says:

I am confident that you will do great. But a slower finish is better than an injured one.

Average is better than below average. LOL

  8. Jenn says:

Oh my gosh, I hate when new running shoes get dirty! And it’s always like that: a dog paw print (which I forgive, always), or a muddy splash or just something like that.

I sweat so much. Part of it is Florida and part of it is me. It’s the worst.
