Hiding From Humidity

The first week of August brought August weather, which means heat and humidity in the DMV. I’ve heard the humidity is higher early in the morning, and it often feels nicer when I am walking into my office than when I ran two hours earlier, but I didn’t realize how much worse it is until I discovered the humidity data on the Weather Channel app.

I couldn’t help but be jealous of Deborah, with her later start!

Hiding From Humidity

The humidity was a shock after our long weekend in Colorado where the weather was AMAZING. My daughter’s new place has a shaded patio where we spent hours chatting, playing games, and raving about the great weather.

Saturday’s hike

I’m not going to recap my visit, but I kept up my Peloton streak doing a 10 min core and 10 min bodyweight workout in the hotel room before heading out for a hike each day. On our way there, I did a standing yoga class at the gate, and was rewarded with a badge for my 75th Peloton yoga class.

I also did a chair yoga class on the airplane before we took off—even Frontier has roomy exit row seats. 😉

With heat and humidity come evening storms, and evening storms tend to bring down tree limbs in my neighborhood. This big one came down around the block from our house

Weekly Run Down

My favorite place to be hiding from humidity is my basement gym. It is one of the coolest places in our house, although I still work up a sweat. After a few days away, I was ready to be back at it at home

Monday: 10 min Core +10 min LB + 10 min ALW + 20 min Barre
I did not have time for yoga at the gate before our flight home—we spent our time getting breakfast at McDonalds—but promised myself I’d do something at home in the afternoon. I’m glad I kept that commitment to myself because it turned out to be my 125th straight week of Peloton workouts.

Tuesday: 10 min core + 30 min Strength + 3.5 Tread Miles + 10 min ALW
I runfess I didn’t run at all while we were in Colorado, and I was fine with it! Of course if an injury had kept me from running I would have been grumpy about it. Go figure. Anyway, it was too humid for Scooby (see above), so I sweat it out on my own on my treadmill.

Wednesday: 10 min Core + 30 min Climb Ride + 10 min ALW
I was torn between taking Hannah F’s new hill ride and a recent “intervals and arms” ride, but since I am doing an arms and light weights (ALW) challenge with the Peloton Breakthrough Crew Facebook group, I opted for the climb.

Thursday: 5 min Core + 10 min LB + 3.5 mi Tread Miles  + 10 min ALW
I opted for a little bit of everything—including another 3.5 mile tread run.

Friday: 10 min Core + 30 min Lizzo Ride + 10 min ALW
I had saved Cliff’s Lizzo ride (in German with English subtitles) for Friday and it was a fun way to end the week. The playlist showcased the variety of her songs and was really good.

Saturday: 10 min Core + Conte’s Hill Ride + 3.5 Tread Miles
We did the “party pace” version of the Conte’s Hill ride (an easier paced ride held on the first Saturday of the month), which was a good choice for a humid morning. The easy pace left my legs craving more, so I hopped on my tread when I got home. After a few intervals at 5% incline, my legs definitely had enough!

Sunday: 15 min Core + 3.6 Scooby Miles
I braved the humidity with Scooby and it was not pretty! Then I stood in a cold shower to try to stop sweating so I could get dressed for church. 😛

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Is it humid where you live?

    Yes yes. It is humid.

    A basement gym sounds perfect.

Happy to hear your trip to Colorado went well. Very creative to do yoga with Peloton.

Hope we get a reprieve and you can get some outdoor rubs with Scooby

We are sharing your miserable humidity here! But soon we’ll be complaining about the cold, lol. Nice job on everything, Coco!

We were talking this morning about how getting out earlier is more humid but less sunny. It is a trade off for sure. Not sure which is better. Glad you had a fun visit with your daughter!

  4. LOL at the cold shower so you could get to church!

For me, even with the higher humidity, getting out earlier works. Although I’ll have another treadmill run tomorrow. We’ve managed to keep Bandit walked, which hasn’t been easy! But he has to get out early (almost 14, heart murmur).

Also LOL that you didn’t miss running while in CO but I wouldn’t either! Plus it’s hard to acclimate to elevation for just a short time. But it must have felt amazing

The heat was bad this week but the humidity may have been worse! I am definitely counting down the days until Fall 🙂

Glad that the weather was nice for your visit with your daughter! 🙂

Hahahaha… oh yes, it’s humid here. But you’re right- the humidity is worse early in the morning (like, right when I’m running- oh well.)
i have to say I’m impressed with you keeping up your Peloton streak- a chair yoga class on the airplane? You’ve proven that there truly is no excuse for not doing a workout.

  7. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

Oh yes, the humidity is even more nutzo in the wee hours than it is by mid-morning. It is what it is, and that’s when it has to happen for my runs/workouts. I didn’t know Alex T did strength workouts…I’ve taken a lot of his cycling classes (he’s a beast!). I’m going to checkout that ALW class after I finish this last week with Tunde 😉

  8. Yes! We have had some pretty humid weather.. I usually get up early enough so it’s not hot at least. I still prefer less weather to Winter!

  9. The humidity has been awful and it looks like it will continue here for the first half of the week.

I’m so glad you had a great time visiting your daughter 🙂

  10. runswithpugs says:

Good for the cold shower! Even when I’m hot, I just can’t do it!

How does scooby deal with the heat and humidity? :It’s so hard for the pets.

So glad you had a nice time in Colorado.
