July Is Coming In Hot

We had a few nice mornings this week, but mostly July is coming in hot! 🥵

Hiding From The Heat Wave

True story!

July Is Coming In Hot!

Since I exercise first thing in the morning, I judge the weather by how it feels when I head out the door with Scooby at 5 or 6 am. The warmest I’ll run with him is the low 70s, and even that can be too warm if it’s humid. A few mornings this week it was in the upper 70s, and on Saturday at was 80F at 6 am, so I took him for a walk and did my own thing in my basement gym.

Sunday: 45 min FB Strength + 35 min Peloton Ride
I hit it hard Sunday morning with a 45 min full body strength class with Jess Sims and Alex T’s ride with Lil John in the studio. Yes, the energy was high! I find that Alex isn’t the best with cuing, but it didn’t matter because the music kept going non-stop.

Monday: Core + 3.5 Scooby  Miles
Monday was the coolest morning of the week, so I’m glad I got out with Scooby. I listened to Kirsten’s Lil John run to keep the party going.

Crazy hair because it’s not plastered to my head!

Tuesday: 15 min Core + 30 min UB Strength
I’m not gonna lie, I did not want to do JJ’s upper body workouts this week, but I committed to doing them for three weeks, so I stuck it out. I’m not sure anything got easier this time around!

Wednesday: 10 min Core + 30 min Peloton Ride
It was steamy in the morning, so after walking Scooby I hit my tread for a 30 min HIIT run with Jess Sims.

Even Prisma can’t filter out the sweat!

🇺🇸 July 4th🇺🇸: Core + 30 mile Ride
We got out pretty early for a bike ride, but it was still steamy. When we got home I rehydrated with watermelon and still needed a nap to recover.

Friday: Core + 4.5 Tread Miles
Our heat wave continued but I was looking forward to Andy Speer’s July 4th tread class anyway. Since it was only 20 min, I paired it with one of Camilla’s 20 min runs. I wore a tank from one of the first July 4th races I ran back in the day—it’s 100% cotton, which tells you something about its vintage!

Saturday: 30 min Upper Body Strength + 35 min Peloton Ride
It should only be this hot in the morning at the beach! Sadly, I’m not at the beach, so after taking Scooby out I headed to my cool basement gym and pushed myself through JJ’s upper body “pull” class. I thought Allie + Emma’s Harry Styles ride would have a fun vibe for a sultry summer Saturday morning.

I hope this hot weather pattern changes soon, but until then you’ll find me in my basement gym.

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

How do you keep cool in a summer heat wave?

Good thing you have a basement gym! Poor Scooby- I’m sure he misses his runs. I hope your weather cools down this week. I’ll bet that 4th of July bike ride was fun- the heat is always a little easier to deal with on a bike.
To answer your question: we don’t! Here in Florida we’ll just be sweltering till November.

  2. Debbie says:

It been downright gross outside these last few days. We’re lucky to have indoor workout options in our homes. Poor Scooby is having to miss his runs, too, but it’s better to play it safe with him.

    • Coco says:

Yeah, the heat and humidity definitely impacts him. Even after a walk he collapses on the cool kitchen floor.

Haha, I also still have cotton t-shirts from old races! They’re very handy as pyjamas, although now most of them have holes and need to be discarded.
Watermelons and naps – we should have that after every workout!
Nice job with the 4 July ride!

It sounds like most of us are dealing with heat and humidity lately! I feel like I really have been earning my shower these days.

I love that you have that old shirt–I don’t have a lot of my old running shirts and I wish I did!

  5. The heat wave does not look like it will be letting up anytime soon! So glad I do not have a fall race on the schedule this year. I have gotten rid of most of my older race shirts. Hope you and scooby have a good week!

  6. Full disclosure…after my 4-mile run yesterday, followed by a steamy 2-mile walk with the daughter, I crashed on her couch for a good hour or so. I think I was dehydrated from not having had much water on Friday (I blame all the time on the airplane), and also exhausted (I blame the air travel for that as well). I think I need to do another week with JJ…I skipped-out on him last week, LOL.

Interesting that 100% cotton tops are considered vintage! Is it because of the preference to sweat wicking fabrics or because using cotton is uncommon these days in the US? I’m genuinely curious!
I’m glad you have the basement gym – sounds like you’re doing some good work there. I wouldn’t mind 80F though! We’re having spring-like temperatures, although Wednesday looks like it could be ok.

  8. Love the vintage tops 🙂 Its hot there, wow! The heat can be so draining. We’ve only had a few hot days here, though they did feel hotter than normal since we don’t have a/c!

  9. Darlene S Cardillo says:

I have a few old shirts that I wear to the gym… it’s chilly there.

It’s been hot for us but of course, nothing compared to you or Fla.

    So I won’t complain.

  10. The hot temps and humidity is tough!! My husband came back from a run and was really dehydrated. He was really acting confused and forgetful. Thankfully he was feeling better the next day after a lot of water and rest. It was a bit scary to see him so off!

Happy July! And big hi to sweet Scooby!

There’s no keeping cool right now. People are buying tons of dry ice and regular ice to cool down their pools, that’s how hot the water is. The ocean is even hot. I hate it.
