Working and Playing In NYC

Usually my business trips to NYC are all work and no play, but this time I planned ahead and was able to spend an afternoon with Carianne as my tour guide.

Working and Playing in NYC

We started at MoMa because I wanted to see the Picasso in Fontainbleau exhibit. The museum website has better photos, but I am sharing this one because the hand-written date is so prominent—and has such a different meaning than the dates we usually see.

We wandered through other exhibits and saw so many “famous” pieces—it was a real treat. I sent a picture of this Dali to my daughter because she gave me the puzzle version.

After browsing the MoMa gift shops, we headed to the Museum of Art and Design, which I had suggested because of the craft exhibit. Little did I know there was a Taylor Swift exhibit, which was fitting to see a few hours before her boyfriend was playing in the Superbowl. 😉 The exhibit focused on costumes from her many “eras”.

After all that, we were ready for an early dinner. While we were waiting for our food we noticed our twinning Peloton x Little Words Project bracelets.

The only photo of us we remembered to take!

Other highlights of my trip to NYC included the pretty snow Tuesday morning

that cleared out in time for a lovely sunset in the evening.

And thebeautiful church I found for Ash Wednesday service.

Weekly Run Down

There was no running in NYC, except for a short stint on the hotel tread. I haven’t used this hotel gym in years, and don’t think it’s changed much. It has all the equipment but was so warm, I wouldn’t have lasted much longer on the tread any way.

Sunday: I got up early to fit in a workout before heading to the train station.

D.C.s’ Union Station lobby

Monday: First hotel gym workout, with a focus on strength.

Tuesday: A little bit of everything. Jess’s tread class had a lot of walking so I was mostly able to follow her programming.

Wednesday: I only had time for a short workout because I wanted to get packed up and ready to check out before heading to an early Ash Wednesday service. Jess Sims’ Flash 15 classes are perfect for that, because you definitely feel like it was “enough.”

Thursday: Back home and catching up on Peloton Valentine’s Day classes. Matty’s walk and Matt’s run were a fun contrast with different takes on the “holiday.”

Friday: I ended the week with a long stack of shorter workouts. Andy’s Green Day class was really good and left me with more DOMS than I expected.

Saturday: I took my 900th Peloton run! I wasn’t planning on taking Hannah’s live class because it started so “late” (8:30), but after sleeping in and doing the core and lower body classes I had planned, it was 8:15, so I did some PT exercises and hopped on the tread.

Don’t worry, I didn’t run for 45 min. I did a longer walking warm-up, about 35 min of 2:1 run/walk intervals, and a walking cool-down.

I’m not going to jinx myself, but my hamstring has been a lot quieter this week. I have continued to run pain-free during my 2:1 intervals, with less and less flare-up afterwards. 🤞

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

What a fun trip to NYC! It’s always a good day when you get to spend time with Cari. Love the twinning bracelets! Congrats on 900 runs!

I’m so happy for you that you managed to get some “play” time in New York besides work! I would love to go to the MoMa again one day.
But the best part is that your hamstring is quieter… (pssst! *whispering* let’s not talk too loudly, but it looks like you’re on the mend!)

  3. Your NYC trip looks so grand! I’m envious of all that sightseeing and fun with Cari 😉 I gotta bookmark that Andy class…his classes ALWAYS bring a good dose of the DOMS afterwards for me.

  4. Debbie says:

Great news on your happier hammie! And yay for spending time with Cari!

The tabernacle in the church you attended on Ash Wednesday is so similar to our church’s tabernacle. When our church was built about 15 years ago, it was imported from another church in NJ or NY that had closed down.

Looks like a really lovely time in NYC! So pretty with the snow. The Taylor Swift exhibit looks interesting. You saw a lot in a short amount of time!

  6. Cari is the best NYC tour guide and hostess. Also fun to meet up w her. Andy’s classes are always hard! He is good

That’s great you could plan some free time in NYC and do some fun things with Cari. I love those bracelets!

  10. Jenn says:

Fingers crossed that your hamstring continues to stay quiet. It’s so good to hear.

I bet Carianne is the very best tour guide. And so lovely that you got to see so much beautiful art. I love that for you.

Happy 900! So glad we got to spend the afternoon together. I’m a total weekend Linner person so it didn’t even feel early to me.
    Glad the hamstring was quiet

The most important thing is to find some time for yourself, even if the trip is for business reasons. I always try to do this, to combine business with pleasure.
