November is always notable in this corner of the blogosphere, with so many of us celebrating birthdays–including Deborah and me. That makes us extra happy to welcome you to the November 2022 edition of the Ultimate Coffee Date. Pour yourself a cup–maybe grab a slice of cake–and fill us in on what’s been going on in your life.

Notable November Ultimate Coffee Date
If we were having coffee, I would be excited to tell you about my first in-person Corepower yoga class since March 2020. The one thing missing from my at-home fitness routine is yoga. As much as I need to, I struggle to start an on-demand yoga class longer than 10 minutes. But I’ve been craving that relaxed, wrung-out feeling I get after a 60 minute hot CPY2 class.
I’m not one to talk about stars aligning, but if we were having coffee I would tell you how everything came into place for my return to Corepower yoga. First, there was a fantastic sale on class packages–a promotion I hadn’t seen yet. (Their deals on unlimited packages didn’t entice me, since I’ll rarely go more than once a week.) Then, I figured out that my favorite instructor is teaching again, at a location/time that works for me. When I showed up for class, she greeting me so warmly I got emotional. And, it turned out to be her 1000th hour of teaching–so it was momentous for both of us. 😉
If we were having coffee in real life, it might be at Starbucks, but I probably would not order a “holiday” drink yet. At least they waited until after Halloween to start using their holiday cups, but I still think November is pumpkin spice season and we should wait until after Thanksgiving to break out the peppermint mocha. It’s an uphill battle, but someone has to #RespectTheBird.
Speaking of Thanksgiving, if we were having coffee I might whine about my lack of Thanksgiving plans. My son and his wife are going to visit her family in Vermont, and my daughter is staying in Colorado. I’m sure we will be celebrating with my Mom, but it’s hard to justify three types of pie for three people–or maybe that’s just right?
My usual trio–have you seen my pain-in-the-ass apple pie recipe?
What would you tell me over coffee?
Pumpkin spice or peppermint mocha?
Pecan, apple or pumpkin pie?
How fun that you’re back at your Corepower yoga classes and your instructor was so welcoming! 🙂
Well, if it’s got coffee in it, my answer has to be neither. Flavorwise without coffee, I’d lean toward peppermint. I’d pick apple over pecan and skip the pumpkin pie. I do like those pumpkin rolls Wegman’s sells during the fall, though.
I used to not like pecan pie until I started making it. A little goes a long way.
We are lucky to have both boys nearby and we’ll celebrate Thanksgiving with them, my sister’s family, and my parents.
As much as I love coffee, I have to admit that I’m not a fan of coffee ‘drinks’. So I’ll take a pass on PSL or Peppermint mocha, lol.
And it’s apple pie!
I don’t get the sweetened drinks often — usually a weekend afternoon pick-me-up!
Apple is my favorite.
That’s a very sweet yoga story. When I went to a studio for yoga 2x/week the instructor made all the difference. I love the festive cups but I probably won’t splurge on a holiday drink…well maybe one peppermint mocha.
Our Thanksgiving gathering will be small this year as well. Our girls and my sister’s family. My mom isn’t well enough to come. Sigh.
So sorry to hear about your Mom’s health. A few years ago my Mom was in the hospital over TG weekend, recovering from post-fall hip surgery. I cooked a small meal at home, and then brought a “plate” of food to her. It was the weirdest holiday ever.
I was thinking of an in person yoga class. I used to go weekly but I don’t enjoy online ones.
I prefer peppermint mocha. I may splurge today.
We will probably go to my mother-in-law and unfortunately they order out. Maybe this year we will cook.
Hope your holiday though small is enjoyable. Darlene
I’ve been tempted to try take-out for TG, but the prices send me running for my apron. 😉
How nice the way everything came together for your yoga class!
I’m more partial to peppermint mocha though in general, I prefer my coffee pretty straightforward lol.
You always make the best looking pies!
It’s funny, I don’t generally like mocha, but peppermint mocha is yummy.
I’m kind of in “fusion” mode right now- still eating lots of pumpkin, but you know how I love the Starbucks holiday cups! I don’t do any fancy drinks though- I’m boring that way.
For our family of four, we always make three pies. There are complicated reasons for this and yes, it’s excessive, but Thanksgiving only comes once a year! Yes- I have seen your PITA apple pie recipe and it looks really good.
Yay for the return to yoga- sounds like it was meant to be.
You know, I was just thinking about core power. I also struggle to do more than a 10 min class on Peloton but used to do 1 hour classes no prob. I think I even had a few classes I never used up. I wonder if they are still useable. Thanks for the reminder. Happy birthday month
If you want to go to CPY on a weekend, let me know. It would be great to revive our yoga + coffee dates. 😉
Yay for birthdays!
It’s our anniversary today so we will be celebrating with…. marching band stuff! Couldn’t think of a better way.
LOL. It’s like coming full circle — I’m sure Friday night football would have been a fun date in highschool, so now it’s a fun anniversary date.
With no Starbucks closer than 20 miles, I don’t keep tabs on the holiday cups. BUT, a couple years ago, one of the DSM Starbucks had a really cool wreath fashioned out of the cups. SO, I have been collecting the holiday cups ever since, but still am a ways from having enough to make a full wreath…maybe this year I can snag enough to finish that project. I like all three pies mentioned, but I’m a pumpkin pie gal for Thanksgiving 😉
My husband already thinks I have a hoarding problem — I like to save empty boxes, he takes them out as soon as he’s unpacked the order — so I had better not start saving cups for a craft project, but I am intrigued.
I think that pie to person ratio sounds good. Maybe that’s just my carb loading self talking – LOL.
I’m not big on holiday coffee drinks unless there’s booze in them! 😉
LOL, I’m not big on sweet or boozy drinks, but once in a while they hit the spot!
Happy Birthday month! I like peppermint mocha but I think it is too soon for anything Christmas related.
I agree! Especially not before my birthday. 😉
If you’re my family, 3 pies might not be enough. 🙂 We will be at my mom’s, of course. At least that’s the plan, and it’s just the 3 of us + the new aide (whom I haven’t yet met).
I’m happy you were able to get back to Yoga and that the stars did align for you!
Happy birthday munch! I’m glad you were able to get back to yoga and yay for great sales! 😀
Those pies are really pretty! Apple is my favorite.
Team Respect the Bird, except for peppermint mocha. It’s never too early for that in my book.
LOL re: But I’ve been craving that relaxed, wrung-out feeling
It’s so weird but so true. Congrats on a special welcome back
