Finally Feeling Fairly Fabulous

I got the best Mother’s Day present an empty-nested mother runner can get—my right foot is finally feeling better for real. Overall, I am feeling fairly fabulous and really want to keep it that way!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Finally Feeling Fairly Fabulous

When I first Googled peroneal tendonitis I tried to block out information suggesting a 6 week recovery period. It couldn’t possibly take that long to recover from an injury I sustained on an easy walk with Scooby, could it? Somehow the fact that I had only made it two houses from home when I rolled my foot made me even more incredulous. Well, it will be 6 weeks on Tuesday, and my foot is finally feeling better. There is still some mild tenderness once in a while, but my runs this week progressed from intermittent discomfort to pain-free! 😀

I celebrated my 500th Peloton run on Tuesday by taking a live class with Andy Speer and then ordering new running shoes. The class was a 20 min intervals class with a good format (2 min, 2 min, 4 min, 2 min, 2 min) so I bookmarked it for future reference.

Brooks Launch GTS

I was browsing for a new pair of Brooks Adrenaline, but when I saw these Launch GTS (the current version of the Ravenna I’ve had good luck with) on sale on the Brooks Running website, I couldn’t resist. Maybe I should have, because they were oddly too big—too long—even though they are the same size I always wear. After printing out my return label I ordered Adrenalines from my local running store, where I can try them on before I take them home. 😉

Weekly Run Down

With my foot feeling better, you won’t be surprised to see a lot of running this week, but I tried to be cautious and hold myself back.

Monday: Core + Tread Bootcamp + Foam Rolling
I braved Jess Sims’s Boston Marathon-recap Saturday 60 Bootcamp, but didn’t follow her all the way up Heartbreak Hill. 😉 I knew the 10 min hill block was coming, and also that it wasn’t going to help my recovery. Instead of skipping the class altogether, I modified to push myself without aggravating my foot—or risking another injury.

Tuesday: Core + 3.65 Scooby Miles + LB Strength+ 3.0 Tread miles
The only live Peloton running class I could fit into my schedule was at 7:30 am on Tuesday. I took Scooby out at our usual time, did 1/2 hour of strength workouts, ate a light breakfast, and then hopped on my tread at 7:20 to get warmed up again. Andy didn’t do a whole lot of shoutouts, but I got mine at the very end of class. 😬

500th Peloton Run

Wednesday: Strength + 20 min Peloton Ride
It was time for a day off from running. I stacked a mix of Peloton strength classes and hopped on my bike for a 20 min Jimi Hendrix ride—part of Peloton’s Rock 22 series.

In this “On The Leaderboard” class, Olivia leads Joe Jonas through a 10 min treadmill run while interviewing him with pop culture quizes, would-you-rather questions, and listening games. You can watch it on YouTube.

Thursday: Core + 2.4 Scooby Miles + 2.3 Tread Miles
I wanted to try my new shoes on a treadmill run in case they didn’t work out (good call!), so I took Scooby for a short run and then did another 20 min treadmill run. The shoes felt big as soon as I put them on, and I definitely noticed it when running. 😛

I was excited for the Red Hot Chili Peppers classes. I usually spread out Artist Series classes so I don’t hear the same songs, but these classes had some variety.

Friday: Core + Upper Body Strength + 30 min Peloton Ride
Cliff did a new English-language Gospel ride a few weeks ago, and I finally remembered to take it. It was a great class, but he sure did leverage that “He will see you through” message to push us through some tough (long) intervals.

Saturday:  Core + 7 Treadmill Miles
I was able to get through half of Scooby’s walk before getting caught in a downpour, and was glad to have my new treadmill as an option. I chose an old Jess Sims 45 min HIIT class as my main class, but started with core and barre classes and a warm-up run. I used the cool-down run to round up my mileage, and then walked the last few minutes.

Rain, rain, it’s OK, I have a new tread and I want to play.

Sunday: FB Strength + 45 min Peloton Ride
I started my Mother’s Day with my two favorite Peloton women who aren’t mothers, Jess Sims and Hannah Frankson. Jess’s workout was hard on my shoulders, so I could barely make it through the arms section of Hannah’s Intervals and Arms ride.

I got to hear Kim’s milestone + birthday shoutout in Jess Sims’s class. 🎉  It’s always fun to hear instructors shoutouts to my friends.

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Have you had to return running shoes that didn’t fit even though they were the right size?

Congrats on 500 rides! I can’t even imagine but I suppose they add up. That’s great news your foot is feeling better. For the record when I had peroneal tendonitis, it took every minute of 6 weeks to fully recover as well.

  2. How fabulous that your foot has healed and you’re running comfortably again! Isn’t it crazy how shoes can range in size so much? Since yours were by the same manufacturer, though, I wonder if they were mis-sized.

That is the best Mother’s Day present ever! I can’t believe it was six weeks ago that you hurt your foot- that time went fast. And congrats on the 500th run- what a milestone. Glad you got your shoutout!
I’ve definitely had to return running shoes that didn’t fit. I think in my case though it was that I ordered the same size but it was a newer model, and the “improvements” they made didn’t work for me. It’s definitely a pain to send them back.

    Kudos on your milestone.

Very happy to hear about your foot. I hope it stays pain-free.

    Happy Mothers Day!

  5. Wendy says:

Congrats on 500 rides! I’m even happier for you about the foot, tho. Now don’t go and overdo it!

I received a pair of Launchs in my Run Happy Box las week. I’m hoping to take them out this week–if it doesn’t rain!

    Congrats on the foot!

I’ve had a lot of shoe issues, but that’s mostly because my foot has widened so much. Yours sounds like a specific shoe that was mis-sized or something!

Glad you are enjoying your treadmill!

  7. Yay so happy to hear that your foot really feels better! I know these past 6 weeks have not been easy.

Congrats on hitting 500 runs! I’ve bookmarked Andy’s class and will listen for your shoutout 🙂

  8. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

I’m in the market for new distance shoes, and I saw the Adrenalines were on sale. I need to act on that, pronto, before they’re all gone from my size. I’m interested un trying the launch, though, since I’ve loved my Ravennas (for shorter distances).

    Yay on the foot, Coco!
So nice to get a shoutout during the Peloton class and even nicer to hear Kim’s shoutout , too!
I’m sure you’ll get to see your kids soon. It doesn’t always have to be on Mother’s Day!

Congratulations on your 500th Peloton run – such an awesome achievement, and glad you were able to take a live class to celebrate, and get a shoutout!
Hope you had an awesome Mother’s Day 🙂

  12. Congrats on your 500th run! My mind boggles, I’m not even at 100 yet .Glad you got your shoutout (and got to hear Kim’s as well). . .

Glad your foot is finally on its way to fully healed.

I wonder why the shoe fit so different? I too bought a couple of the Launch on sale. I was concerned because I have loved the Raveena. But I absolutely LOVE the launch! They are so lightweight and feel so good. I wonder if you got a bad pair? Mine fit fine! I’m very happy your foot is finally cooperating!
