2022 — Let’s Do This Over Coffee

Welcome to the first Ultimate Coffee Date of 2022! No matter what the year brings, I know it will be more fun if we go through it together, and what better way to start a new year than over coffee with friends? Deborah and I sure are glad to be hosting you once again. ultimate coffee date badge

January 2022 Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would ask if your new year is off to a good start. So far mine is a lot better than last year! No attempts to overthrow the government or broken bones so far. 😉

If we were having coffee, I would tell you how much fun we had doing escape rooms over the holidays. We did a “Black Widow” themed room with my daughter, her boyfriend, and my Mom, and had so much fun we went back and did a “Lost Temple” themed room when my son and daughter-in-law came by.

Escape Room Fun

We were so eager to get going, we forgot to take our masks off!

We made it much farther through the Lost Temple before we needed a clue, but it ended up being much more complicated—in a fun way.

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you got any fun gifts this year. My favorite is the “silly walk” clock my sister-in-law got for my husband.

Monty Python Clock

Literally hours of entertainment!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that my family came through with some great new puzzles for me. I’ll share them as I do them, but this is the one I plan to tackle first.

Color puzzle

Do you think I’ll get it done before our February coffee date?

  1. Marcia says:

That is a fun clock! The puzzle definitely looks like it’s going to be a challenge. Glad you had fun with the escape rooms!

  2. Wendy says:

That puzzle is giving me anxiety just looking at it! Good luck!

  3. Is that an actual photo of the puzzle? That looks super challenging!

I’ve never done an escape room. What a fun thing to do with your family!

  4. That’s nice you got to do two escape rooms! I have yet to do one (I think they have those in Des Moines, though, so my only excuse is procrastination). Have fun with your jigsaw puzzles! It’s been a few years since I’ve done one.

    • Coco says:

I’ve wanted to do an escape room for a long time. It was a fun family activity because you have to brainstorm together.

  5. That’s some puzzle! You’ve reminded me that I should order a couple of new ones.

Those escape rooms look like so much fun – great way to spend some family time 🙂

  6. Darlene says:

I’ve done the escape room. Very fun.

So far so good. Two races but this week it is cancelled. Fingers crossed for my half in two weeks.

I got a SuP and I’m very excited about it.

  7. Coco says:

Oh, wow, a SuP is a great gift — something to look forward to in warmer weather!

    Sorry about your race.

  8. Birchwood Pie says:

My takeaways from this coffee date are that my stepsons need a silly walk clock and I am humbled just looking at that puzzle.

  9. jenny says:

Ack! That puzzle looks hard! We’ll need an update on your progress in the February coffee date.
Glad your year is off to a good start- you did have a tough January last year, didn’t you? I’ve never done an escape room, but my son has and he said it was really fun. And… that clock is HILARIOUS! Your sister-in-law wins first prize!

  10. deborahbrooks14 says:

oh that puzzle is way too advanced for me-it would totally stress me out. We did those escape rooms years ago and loved them. I bet it would be fun to do them again. The clock is super cute!

  11. Wow! That puzzle looks like a huge challenge! We did the NY Times cover from my birthday. That was a lot of fun. At my SILs we started a 1500 piece world puzzle that was really cool, too!

  13. Cari says:

Oh my that puzzle looks evil!
I’ve never done an escape room. Not sure I’d like it even though everyone seems to have a ball

    • Coco says:

Hah. I love the colors of the puzzle, so it looks soothing to me.

Think of the escape room as a scavenger hunt with clues you have to solve — I think you’d be great at them!

  14. kookyrunner says:

I would really like to try the Escape Room activity but I would probably have to do some light begging to get my family to agree to doing it, lol.

Wow! that puzzle will be a challenge but you will feel so accomplished once its done 🙂

  15. There’s a balance drill I do on Fridays with my class where I have them pretend their legs are arms of a clock and they have to point with their toes to various times. That clock would be so cute to hang in the room where I teach the class. My students would get a kick out of it.

I do not have the patience to do puzzles. The one pictures sounds tedious, but I bet you finish it by our next coffee date.

  16. Farrah says:

hahaha, so true on the start of this year vs last year. Let’s hope it continues to be that way!

I’ve only done an escape room once but it was a lot of fun. :] That puzzle looks difficult but I think you’ll finish it before the next coffee date!

  17. Looks like a fun puzzle but it is also giving me anxiety. 🙂 I can’t believe it’s been a year since that “incident” at the Capitol. My mother and I were watching the news on Thursday. I remember being in class and had no idea what had happened since it was over.

  18. MCM Mama says:

That puzzle is really cool! My college student and I did one that was all butterflies on a white background. It was surpisingly hard, but I loved doing it. I may have to pull out an old puzzle to work on this winter…

  19. Denise says:

Love the puzzle. It looks like a challenge that’s for sure. I have a couple puzzles to do but I also have a kitten. My daughter got me a puzzle mat so I could roll up the puzzle when I’m not doing it. We’ll see how that goes.

  20. runswithpugs says:

    LOOK AT THAT PUZZLE!

I love doing puzzles, but no one does them with me, and then it’s just one more activity on my own. But I want to get my hands on that!
