Spring Fever Coffee Date

Welcome to the March 2021 edition of the Ultimate Coffee Date. Even though I’m still wearing a mask and washing my hands like it’s my job, I feel more vulnerable than ever to spring fever. Wouldn’t it be nice to grab a table outside for a real coffee date? These virtual meet-ups are the next best thing, so Deborah and I encourage you to participate and visit new blogs in the link up.

Spring Fever Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that all it takes is one unseasonably warm day for me to catch spring fever. Even when the weather is typical for March, the extra daylight gives me more energy and makes me want to be outside. Too bad work has other ideas ….

It will be a while before I have coffee outside my office Starbucks.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that, after a year staying safer at home, I placed my first Instacart order, and it did not go well. I was in search of my favorite Amy’s frozen entree, which apparently has been discontinued. 🙁

Amy's Mattar Paneer

The Wegman’s/Instacart website said they still had them in stock, so I ordered a few and added some items I didn’t get at Giant. When our order arrived, there was no Amy’s Mattar Paneer after all, and three of the four cans of chili I ordered for my husband’s lunch were the wrong flavor (with beans). At least we didn’t pay a delivery fee since it was our first order ….

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I finished two puzzles in February.

Capitol Puzzle

Art Puzzle

They couldn’t be more different, could they? Which one do you think was harder?

Do you use Instacart? Do you have spring fever?

What would you tell me over coffee?

  1. I’ve never tried Instacart, but Ive been using Amazon Fresh for a few years now. When we moved to this area we were struggling to find a good grocery store, and loved having our groceries delivered. But now its gotten more expensive. Most of the time we get the right items but there have definitely been issues from time to time.

    • Coco says:

The price differences have kept me from using it until now. My husband orders junk food from Amazon Fresh so he doesn’t have to put it on my grocery list. 😉

  2. I’ve head enough negative experiences from friends who’ve tried Instacart that I haven’t bothered. While there’s something about being in a grocery story that still sets me on edge, my husband has been willing to go. We also do a lot of curbside pick-up which has worked well.

You inspired me to start doing puzzles again…but blogger fail I forgot to take pictures! I’m betting the top one was the harder of the two – all that sky and detail in the background!

  3. Wendy says:

We gave up on Instacart a while ago–after I got beets instead of radishes. Well, they’re both red, right? lol I’ll go to the store, but my husband still likes to do curbside pickup.

Yes, I have spring fever! Bring on the 60s!

    • Coco says:

Hmm, I guess dirty radishes could look like baby beets? I don’t mind going to the store, although they gave up on the one-way aisles this week.

  4. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

Never tried Instacart, so I don’t have any input on that topic. I’ve had spring fever since February 22nd, when the Great Freeze of 2021 broke 😉 Unfortunately, I’ve already noticed those 40F temps aren’t feeling as spring-like as they were two weeks ago because the wind has been raging. BUT, it still feels much better than the prior weather and most of our snow is history.

  5. Marcia says:

Bummer on Instacart. I’ve never used it but that’s frustrating. I am all for spring. I love the daylight and stronger sunshine, even if it was so dang windy and chilly yesterday. I’d guess the circle puzzle was harder.

    • Coco says:

I would have felt lucky if they had my Amy’s entree, but as it was it just reinforced that I’ll run to the store on my own next time. 😉

  6. I would think the bottom puzzle would be harder.

Well, no worries on spring fever today. It is VERY cold & VERY windy! Hopefully by next week the last of the snow will have melted away. 🙂

Online grocery ordering is an adventure. You don’t always get what you want and sometimes you get stuff you didn’t order. Even though I always put in substitutions, many shoppers don’t seem to look at it. Most of the time it works out ok. We’re usually over the amount where you have to pay a delivery fee, but of course there is tip.

    • Coco says:

We’ve got windy March weather here today too! I live so close to the grocery store, it’s really easier to just go myself.

      • I actually do live quite close to one grocery store. There is still a time savings by getting it delivered you just have to kind of go with the flow & not order something you really need last minute, LOL!

  7. kookyrunner says:

I’ve heard that Instacart can be pretty hit or miss – sorry that your first experience wasn’t that great 🙁

I almost forgot that we “Spring forward” this month. An extra hour daylight will be much appreciated!

  8. I go to the grocery in person once a week now but I use instacart from Wegmans once a week too to fill in what I need. I have had pretty good luck with them and the shoppers always text me if they cannot find my item.

    • Coco says:

I feel like there is some setting I didn’t choose! But the chili was just grabbing the wrong thing, because they weren’t listed as substitutions.

  9. Early on in the pandemic we did curbside pickup, but I’ve been doing our shopping in person since the summer. I use GoCart for my mom. She calls me with her list, I place the order for her, and then my uncle or one of my cousins (or my brother if he’s visiting) picks it up for her. It’s worked really well for all of us involved.

I rode outside on Wednesday afternoon and that definitely gave me spring fever!

Thanks for the linkup and have a great weekend!

  10. Jenny says:

Ha ha… yes, you picked two drastically different puzzles! I’m guessing the top one was harder… all those hazy colors.
I’ve never done Instacart- I don’t trust them to give me the correct things, and based on your experience I would be right about that!

  11. Those puzzles look awesome. I think they both look hard but that the Capitol would be harder. We did an awesome one of the Cascade Mountains from Pomegranate Puzzles last month.

Spring fever is strong here, too. Exciting!

  12. Cari says:

    Both puzzles look wonderfully evil.
I’m curious how spring allergy season goes in mask life. May be one up side to masks.

  13. Catrina says:

My husband Kai has really bad hay fever. In fact, he wants to stay longer in Cape Town just to avoid it in Switzerland. Do you take medication against it or have you tried a desensitisation program?
Yay on the puzzles! I just saw you said the Capitol was harder. Not surprising, just look at that sky! 😳

  14. I’ve done exactly one grocery shop online. And it was before the pandemic… I don’t know, I just can’t get into it. Once covid hit there was no chance of ordering your groceries online. It was a nuthouse here. So Ron pretty much did the groceries for us for months and months so that only one person was exposed at the store.

I’m guessing the top puzzle was the hardest?

    • Coco says:

Yeah, I never did play the grocery delivery game when it was so hard. My mom would log onto amazon fresh at 6 am to try to get a delivery time, but I was find going to my store.

  15. Farrah says:

I’ve never tried Instacart but sorry to hear that your experience with it didn’t go well. :[

I haven’t done a puzzle in a long while — was the top one harder? (That sky…)

    • Coco says:

I’m not sure I’ll ever use it again! As long as I can get out of the house it’s just as easy to go to the store.

  16. Laurie says:

Wow! That bottom puzzle looks TOUGH!!!

I have never done an online grocery order for just the reasons you describe. I just mask up and try to stay away from other people. I also go to the grocery store at a time when it isn’t busy. Sorry you had trouble with your order!

    • Coco says:

At the start of the pandemic I would go to the store early Saturday morning, but now even mid-day on the weekend it doesn’t seem that busy. Maybe a lot of people are still using other services.

  17. I thought we were headed for Spring too but just this week it feels like a second wave of Winter. I think it’s suppose to warm up again this coming week. Both of those puzzles look super hard!

  18. Denise says:

I’m thinking the top puzzle was harder. I love doing puzzles but when I start one i get obsessed and spend all my time on it.
I rarely go out for coffee but I do like a lunch date and I am ready!

  19. I’ve never used Instacart. I shop at Target (and sometimes do an online order to pick up) and Pete’s Market (for meat and other Mexican items). Did you complain to the store about the missing and wrong items? Both puzzles look hard but I am guessing the top one was more difficult.

  20. MCM Mama says:

I’ve been using Shipt for a year – my renewal is only a few weeks away LOL. I love it and I have the same shopper nearly every time, so I very seldom have issues any more. But at the beginning, I got some interesting substitutions…

I’m having a hard time getting outside running right now – I know warmer weather is soclose that I’m struggling to put on layers and running in the cold. Spring Fever is definitely happening here!
