February was a fast and furious month. The weather was all over the place with a bit of snow and a lot of ice. I had to work every weekend to keep from getting too far behind. The monotony of still staying safer at home and the time it’s taking for my fractured hand to heal wore on me. I am ready to turn the page on my wall calendar and say “check, done!” to February 2021.
The last week of February teased us with sunshine and temperatures in the mid-60s. I know March weather can be fickle, but at least there’s more daylight to get us through.
February: Check, Done!
My main (only?) goal for February was to log 85 running miles, which I exceeded, logging 91 miles with my new schedule of treadmill runs. Of course, the only constant is change, and I’ll have to devise a new plan now that I’m just about ready to start running with Scooby again. I know some of you mocked my valentine to my treadmill, but I’m going to miss the convenience of firing it up and running until I reach my distance goal–no route planning required.
That doesn’t mean I’m not excited to run outside again. When it was in the upper 40s Thursday morning, I couldn’t resist, and took Scooby on a one mile run.
When it was still pleasant on Friday (upper 30s), I did it again, choosing a slightly longer route. Still, I wasn’t sad when a rainy Saturday morning meant I didn’t have to decide between running with Scooby and doing the 60 min Heart Rate Zone treadmill class I’d been planning on.
I also completed Matty’s Februrary core challenge–just in time, as some of his older classes were purged from the Peloton library last week. I’m eager to get back to more challenging strength classes, but I still can’t hold heavy weights or do the push-ups that are a staple of the bodyweight classes. I’m torn between taking classes I might have to modify and sticking with the arms toning classes I know I can do.
Weekly Wrap
This week Peloton had a “flash challenge badge” for yoga, stretching and meditation classes. I did one short yoga class and several short stretching classes to earn that badge–check, done!
Monday: Core + Yoga + Ride + Arms
I did a little bit of everything to kick off the week. This BHM Fresh Friday ride was really interesting. Denis played parts of classic songs by Black artists, and then parts of more recent songs that sampled from them or were inspired by them.
Tuesday: Core + Tread + Tread Bootcamp (Lower Body)
I knew I was taking a risk on this Tread class because it wasn’t rated very high. Rebecca spent the whole class fan-girling over Black gymnasts, which is fine, but I think the class would have been rated higher if she spent a bit more time cuing an interesting run. The Tread Bootcamp made up for that, though!
Wednesday: Core + Tread
Selena’s BHM run was more traditional, with a varied playlist of Black artists.
Thursday: Core + Tread + Glutes/Legs + Arms
After wearing my “old” Brooks Adrenaline for my short run with Scooby, I decided to break out the new pair I got on Black Friday to use on my treadmill. They are so bright! Matty’s BHM run highlighted Black LGBTQ artists, some of whom he knows from the NYC scene.
Friday: Core + Ride + Arms
Playing with my balance and the Prisma filters
Saturday: Core + Tread + Zoom Ride
I psyched myself up to take Jess Sims’s 60 min HRZ Power class. I used my OTF heart rate monitor and ran an “at home” workout on the OTF app on my phone to have an easy display of my heart rate. Focusing on those numbers made the time go by pretty quickly. Even with the recovery periods, it wasn’t easy!
This heart rate data is from my Garmin,
which I was wearing but not looking at during the run. 😉
We had a good turnout for our Saturday morning Zoom ride–including Liz’s first ride with us.
Sunday: Core
I woke up with the feeling my upper back (between my shoulder blades) was on the verge of seizing up–consequences of too much time hunched over my laptop? I spent some time opening it up on my fitness ball and then finished my last February core class.
The check marks mean I’ve taken the class.
The list goes on …
Thanks to Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down link up.
Do you have new goals for March?
It looks like Scooby’s giving you the side-eye in that second photo, lol! Is he asking for more miles?
He wonders why I’m making him sit in the driveway in the dark!
I’m also happy to be done with February! For some reason I feel like once we get to March things will really start looking up. But who knows. Warmer weather and more daylight will definitely be nice!
Yes, although I just saw a long-term forecast for a wet March!
My lower back was bothering me and I was not sure if it was from one of the core classes. I did enjoy Matty’s challenge and I am going to do core again this month and the new one. Way to go on the high running mileage this month!
You’re going all in with Matty again? I think I need more variety.
You had an awesome February!I have Denis’ BHM Fresh Friday ride bookmarked and I hope I can get to it this week or next week. I did one of his older Fresh Friday rides from a few years ago but the ride is no longer available on demand, which sucks because it was awesome!
I think I want to do a daily core challenge in either March or April. I didn’t do Matty’s encore28 challenge so I might do it one of those months.
It was good to see you yesterday morning 🙂
Yes, that purge took out most classes before Sep 2018 (I read up on it!). I liked the breakthrough core challenge I did last fall because there was some variety in instructors.
My back has been having moments, as well. I blame the Netflix on the couch (and the subsequent falling-asleep while watching). Great week of workouts, Coco! Always nice seeing you on Saturday mornings!!
Yeah, I did crash on the sofa last night too, but I’d rather blame working at the kitchen counter. 😉 Our rides are such a nice way to stay connected!
Congrats on meeting your monthly mileage goal…I was quite short but I’m ok.
So fun riding virtually with others.
Another active Peleton week. You are inspiring.
You did plenty of other things besides running! I love your hiking pics!
Hiking has become a pandemic favorite. No people. Just fresh air.
Way to exceed your running mileage goal! Hopefully I’ll be able to rejoin our group ride again soon!
We do too!
I love your new kicks! I’m not sorry to see February in the rear view mirror. I’m not sure what I did to hurt my back last week but it sure got my attention. I’ve been making a point to stand much more during work.
Yeah, my upper back was jacked for sure. It’s mostly better today — just in time for work. 🙁
Sounds like you had a good February! Funny that you’ll actually be missing the indoor treadmill runs, but I know what you mean. i have a feeling winter isn’t quite over yet, so you’ll probably have a mix of indoor and Scooby runs this month.
Yes, for now I’m going to be a wuss about the weather — no running in the rain or wind chill in the 20s!
You are probably the fittest injured person I know, Coco! I’m sorry that you had to work every weekend though.
I am happy to have my treadmill as an option. The weather up here is just too iffy too often, and we sure haven’t seen any 60s (or much sun) — I’m just grateful when it’s over freezing. It’s kind of sad.
I just love Scooby so much. I’m sure he’s ready to be back out there with you!
I’m glad February is over. I though tit kind of dragged, and I’m ready to move on to the next thing. For March, I have committed to strength training. For real, this time. It’s been lacking in my workouts, and I have to be serious.
You had a great month! Way to go on achieving your mileage goal.
Scooby must be happy to be back to his running routine!
Great job with your miles! You continue to get a lot of workouts in despite your ribs and hand!
I’m happy to see February leave the building! Let’s hope March plays nice 😉
glad to be done with Feb too. hooray for hitting and exceeding your mileage goal! glad we got to ride together again -always nice to see you all! Sorry to hear about your back, ugh!
No mocking from me about your love of the treadmill! :-). Great job on meeting your miles this month. February was rough. Let’s hope March behaves better.
