Christmas Runfessions

Since Santa already stopped by our house, it’s safe to reveal how naughty I’ve really been in this special Christmas edition of Runfessions. I promise you won’t get coal in your stocking if you visit the runfessional hosted at Marcia’s Healthy Slice.

Deborah and I will be hosting a special New Year’s Day Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend! We’ll open the (link-up) doors Friday January 1st, and keep the coffee brewing.

Christmas Runfessions

I runfess that when I happened to be running errands near a running store on Thanksgiving weekend, I couldn’t resist popping in to check out the next edition of the Brooks Adrenaline. Once I was there, I couldn’t resist the sale price. At least I did save them for Christmas.

Brooks Adrenaline December 2020

What, you don’t put presents for yourself under the tree?

I runfess that while I survived most of 2020 injury free, I am ending the year with a sore Achilles. I trace back to a long-ish run a few weeks ago when I could feel my ankle slipping, but didn’t bother to stop to tighten my shoe.

I runfess that despite hobbling in pain if I dare go barefoot, I still did the math to see if I could log 100 running miles in December. Someone needs to confiscate my Garmin. Speaking of which, I runfess that until someone shared a screenshot, I didn’t realize the Garmin app shows monthly mileage totals like this:

Garmin Monthly Data

I always guesstimated from this bar graph (or looked it up on Garmin Connect) and didn’t realize you could scroll down for more details.

Garmin bar graph of monthly miles

Anyway, I’ve logged over 1,150 miles this year, which is probably a record,

For some reason this bitmoji reminds me of running with Scooby!

Speaking of numbers, I runfess that I logged over 13,000 minutes in Peloton workouts since signing up in March. I’ve taken more strength classes than anything, but those include a lot of 10 minute core workouts.

Peloton Annual Minutes

Whatever it takes in a year like this, right?

Are you chasing any mileage goals these last few days of the year?

Are you stll learning new things about your Garmin?

You and I are about tied for the year! I’m this close to my goal of 1200, a distance that I haven’t see in many years. Kind of excited about it! I didn’t know that Garmin connect had a section that showed the miles like that. Of course, I didn’t know it tracked shoe mileage either until someone else told me…doh

    Merry Christmas, my friend!

Merry Christmas! Since I’ve been alternating between shoes this year I have been trying to use Garmin to track their mileage. 1200 miles is fantastic. Shows how we dealt with the stress of 2020, eh? 😉

  2. I feel your pain, unfortunately, Coco. Well, actually not so much now, although I still wouldn’t say it’s 100% normal 100% of the time.

I’m not sure I’ve looked at the totals in the Garmin app. I know there are a few missing runs here & there — typically treadmill runs I deleted by accident. Good thing I really don’t care about mileage much!

Have a very Merry Christmas, Coco!

4 more miles to reach 1000 – my goal!! Maybe today if the rain lets up or Sunday for sure!!

Congrats to you and hope your achilles behaves.

Still looking at bikes. Is yours a Schwinn 2 or 2 by any chance?

    Merry Christmas.

Schwnn3 is what I meant to say?

Great job on your mileage and all those Peloton classes! You’ve been so consistent with all your workouts during this crazy year! No mileage goals for me this year, but I’m seven days away from finishing my 9th running streak 😉

I usually buy myself a present and put it under the tree…and then act surprised when I open it up, LOL. I love those sneakers that you purchased!

Sorry to hear about your injury and I hope that i starts to feel better soon. Hope you’re having an amazing Christmas!

  7. I always for buying myself gifts for my birthday or holidays. Why not get what you really want?! Congrats on hitting your mileage goals this year. The Peloton challenges have been fun too I am hoping they extend the annual next year for us crazies. Merry Christmas

  8. Marcia says:

I runfess I had no idea Garmin had that monthly mileage screen either. I hit 1000 miles for the year in September but that’s only because we typically walk 28 miles a week. Thanks for ‘fessing!

  9. Catrina says:

Well done on reaching those 1’150+ miles!
I hope the Achilles problem will be resolved soon, it can take quite a bit of time to heal.

I am obsessive about reaching my yearly mileage. I missed 10 weeks because of an injury and then was frantic about catching up the missed kilometres. I made it, with a little bit to spare! (50km a week = 2’600km/year)

  10. Every year on New Year’s eve I add up all my mileage for the year, but this year I’m not even going to bother because I have not been sticking to a plan or keeping good records! I guess that’s what not having any races to train for does to you! Also, I had not idea of that feature on Garmin! I have not used my Garmin Connect in a very long time!
