Celebrating The Fourth At The July Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you saw any fireworks on the fourth? It’s not my husband’s thing, but sometimes I can coax him downtown–or at least to the rooftop patio at my office.

My view of the 2010 fireworksΒ

This year we didn’t want to deal with navigating around the additional bridge and road closures for President Trump’s Salute to America program at the Lincoln Memorial, but it was supposed to be the biggest fireworks display ever. πŸ˜‰

We did pass through the city on our bike ride–and paused for a photo stop at the Francis Scott Key memorial.

Oh, say can you see …?

If we were having coffee, I would be whining because our firm got an extra holiday on the 5th, but we forgot and scheduled a meeting that couldn’t be postponed. At least that gave me a reason to get in a run early–and wear my new InkNBurn singlet to keep the holiday celebration going.

I wore it for my run along boulder Creek Trail last weekend

If we were having coffee, I would ask if if the Facebook app has been wonky for anyone else. My menu appears and disappears randomly.

Speaking of Facebook, if we were having coffee, I would tell you my Facebook Page had its first troll.

That “talking to the dead?” comment was on my Father’s Day post. #smh

Apparently Tammy really doesn’t like yoga, or the idea of self-care, or remembering your deceased Dad on Father’s Day.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I decided to keep getting the newspaper delivered. I really enjoy reading the paper too much to give it up–and we need those plastic bags for Scooby’s walks!

  1. The Tammy troll is funny (but also probably incredibly annoying). I’ve had a couple of posts from my running page on FB that have been getting all kinds of traffic. It’s probably a good thing, but both posts are over a week old…and on Wednesday (when FB/Insta crashed for several hours), these two posts kept getting “shared.” My notifications were popping in every 30 minutes with ‘new” shares. I can’t help wonder if all were genuine “new” shares or a glitch…but the shares have continued since (just not as frequently). Odd!

  2. Wendy says:

No fireworks here either! We just couldn’t stay up that late, lol!

FB and IG have been wonky lately. On Wednesday, I couldn’t see a lot of posts on IG and commenting wasn’t working. I get trolls on IG but I haven’t had any on FB for a while. I block them all. Some people have just way too much time on their hands!

  3. Marcia says:

This was the first time in 3 years we were in town for the Fourth so we went to our usual fireworks viewing spot with friends. It was nice the storms held off for once. I runfess I did not see any of DT’s Salute to America. I’ll bet your troll is a bot. Thanks for the linkup!

    • Coco says:

We had hours of thunder (from 3-6 pm) but barely any rain! I think Tammy is real. Her comments were in standard English and she has a real (personal) FB page. Luckily she seems to have gotten it out of her system that one morning. πŸ˜‰

  4. I heard your fireworks were HUGE. We didn’t go here but you can see lots of fireworks from our windows in every direction! There was apparently a big fight here after the Navy Pier fireworks so I’m glad I skipped it! Sorry about the vacation day mishap! I have to work but it’s very slow!

    • Coco says:

Yikes on the fight. I know people were concerned about protests in DC, but things were pretty calm. (We stayed home though) I did get a lot done at work today ….

  5. Darlene says:

My hubby doesn’t care about the fireworks but I insisted we watch them at the marina. I had to drive home after and now I am at work. zzzz

    No comment about Trump’s display.

I finally stopped the paper. I usually know the news from tv or FB before I read it anyway.

    • Coco says:

That’s true, I do get breaking news on FB. I still like to read the local news and editorials. Not to mention the comics!

  6. Bummer on having to work today! We are not fireworks people either so my daughter and I went to see toy story. Funny on the troll I have had a few and I believe you can block them. I get weird people on IG every week. I also still get the paper everyday and I love to do the crosswords in paper rather than online.

  7. kookyrunner says:

Love that InkBurn top – it’s perfect for the 4th! I won’t comment on Trump’s Salute to Himself, oops I mean America.

Ugh to the Tammy troll – So obnoxious!

I’m also working today as well, so I feel your pain! Luckily many people are out of the office so my inbox is SO quiet – perfect day to get a lot done with no distractions πŸ™‚

  8. runswithpugs says:

Facebook and Instagram were both down and wonky this week. Super annoying.

Your troll sounds like loads of fun. Sorry you are dealing with that.

No fireworks for me. I was staying with a friend for the Peachtree Road Race and we were all so exhausted after that experience that none of us wanted to drag ourselves off the couch LOL!

  9. We went and saw fireworks. When they were finished we turned around and we saw fireworks from a different direction. We found a great spot to park this year.

    • Coco says:

That sounds like fun! I know there are “secret” viewing/parking spots for the DC fireworks, but it’s still a hassle with so many people around here.

  10. Organic Runner Mom says:

We had fireworks at a party at my ex’s house which were cool. You could see fireworks in the distance too which was neat! That troll is funny . . . you know you’ve arrived when you get your first troll lol!

  11. We did catch some fireworks – thankfully there is a really good display not too far from our house so we can avoid the city traffic! I will refrain from commenting on DT’s salute to himself!

FB has been doing some odd things lately – do you think your troll is a bot?

    Thanks for coffee πŸ™‚

    • Coco says:

We used to live near alternative fireworks, but now DC is the closest. Next weekend Alexandria has it’s ow birthday celebration with fireworks so we may go to that.

I’m pretty sure Tammy is real. I poked around her (personal) FB page. πŸ˜‰

  12. We still get the print paper too. Beer Geek loves to read it cover to cover. I prefer our digital access that comes with it. And we’ve lived near DC for 24 years and I’ve only gone downtown once to see the fireworks.

    • Coco says:

Gosh, and you’re closer than we are! I rely on the digital access when I leave the house before the paper is delivered, which is most days, but I still like to read the rest of the paper when I get home.

  13. angela@marathonsandmotivation.com says:

Happy 4th of July! We did not go to the fireworks, but still heard hem from our house. I’m not a big fan of them either and my dog is terrified of them, so I spent the evening consoling him!!

  14. Huh! That is so strange about the troll. I wonder what the point of all that is?

  15. I’ve never gone to DC for the Independence Day fireworks celebration, but my husband’s family always went when he was little. I would have loved to go to the president’s Salute to America, but didn’t want to fight the crowds (my reason for having never gone down for the fireworks). My friends who went loved it!

It was great to join you again after a few months of missing the coffee date. Thanks for the linkup!

  16. Cari says:

Facebook was such a turd this week.
I have no idea what I’m going to use for trash bags once NYC implements the ban on plastic. Our newspapers don’t come in it already
Nice singlet! When a friend and I were talking to a Skirt ambassador during a race, the woman she was running with was InkNBurn and she was doing a video. I was kind of in love with her patternpalooza

    • Coco says:

Oh, wow. Our plastic bag bans haven’t reached the newspapers. What happens when it’s raining? I usually like the skirt sport patterns more than InkNBurn, but some InkNBurn patterns really nail it for me.

      • Cari says:

I’m not sure how they’ll handle it for private houses. Here we just get a stack in the building entry way (before the security door)

  17. We had a low key 4th of July here. We typically don’t go to fireworks shows, though we did when the kids were younger. I was probably dead asleep by the time they started!
