July Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would  ask if you’ve caught on to the cold brew craze? I’ve used a few Starbucks rewards on their Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew, but I still prefer my grande Pikes at half the price. For a few weeks at work we got to try out Commonwealth Joe’s cold brew–they even provided this tap and refrigerated keg!

While it was very popular, we decided it was too expensive.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that my office Starbucks has had some bad luck lately. A few weeks ago there was a gas leak in the building that caused a shut down.

They evacuated the whole building and my office building next door because we share the same underground garage. I walked up the street to another Starbucks to get my coffee and do some work until we were allowed back in the building.

More recently, they had to close when their air conditioning stopped working.  That day, I got my coffee just before they shut down, and enjoyed it outside.

It really confused people when I told them Starbucks was closed as I was drinking my Starbucks! 🙂

If we were having coffee, I would tell you about my new favorite way to rehydrate after a hot workout.

I pour myself a tall glass of icy sparkling water and add a Nuun tablet. It tastes extra refreshing and staves off that dehyrdation headache.

  1. I haven’t quite gotten into the cold brew thing. I love my pour over coffee that I make each morning – I even brought it with me to Australia.

And even in the summer, I need my piping hot coffee to start the day. I might drink a cold coffee later in the day, but the morning has to start with hot.

  2. I’m a hot chai drinker, even in the heat. I just can’t get into the cold brew stuff. Too funny you were sipping your coffee out in front of Starbucks, taunting all the others who couldn’t get their morning coffee fix LOL

  3. I agree that even in the summertime I need my morning hot coffee. It’s funny how it tastes different cold. I’ve had a few of those dehydration headaches the past few weeks. Sometimes I chug a Gatorade. I will try the Nuun in the sparkling water!

  4. Wendy says:

I have been drinking my coffee hot all summer, but I do enjoy an iced coffee after a hot run. It’s not a cold brew–I brew it hot and pour it over ice. With half and half and a little agave sweetener…yum!

    Thanks for hosting the linkup!

    • Coco says:

I’ve never gotten iced coffee right when I’ve tried to make it at home. I leave it to the professionals. 😉

  5. vicki says:

I like my coffee hot, still in the heat… although I’ll admit to drinking it cold if I have any left over in the press when I am done. I bet nuun over sparkling water is good… I’m going to try that today!

  6. I used to own a coffee shop and cold brew a lot longer process to make but 100%worth it!

  7. I haven’t tried the whole cold brew craze. While I do love my iced coffees I still find I need that first hot cup then I’ll switch to iced later in the morning. I’ve also been making a coffee protein shake for post-runs which helps give me that coffee fix!

  8. Kristen says:

They had a coconut cold brew for a while that I loved but it went away…so sad.
It’s funny, I drink iced coffee less now that I’m in Florida than I did in New England! I think because everything here is so air conditioned. Our house is always chilly when I wake up so I make hot coffee and I work from home instead of commuting in a hot car.
Suddenly you have me thinking about cold brew though. Hmm… there’s a coffee place next to my gym. Maybe for a post workout treat today…

  9. I’m totally all about the Nuun!

I still enjoy my hot tea in the mornings — and afternoons! — but I haven’t had time before my long runs lately because I have to be out the door so early & I miss it.

  10. I like cold brew but in the morning I drink my coffee hot no matter the temps. I get some funny looks if I’m drenched from running with a hot coffee in hand. Oh well!

  11. Farrah says:

    Whew, that poor Starbucks! :/

I like that idea with the Nuun and sparkling water–definitely sounds like a refreshing way to cool off!

  12. It’s funny you mention the dehydration headache. I’ve had a headache after my run the last 2 days, and I’m sure it’s related to dehydration and the horrible heat wave we have right now. I haven’t yet tried the Nunn tablets but adding them to sparkling water sounds refreshing.

    • Coco says:

I never drink enough on my bike or while running, but forget to drink more when I get home. This is one way I remember to drink up!

  13. Kim Westrich says:

This is the first I’ve heard of the cold brew craze. I must really be out of the loop!

The sparkling water/nuun tab combo sounds interesting. I’ll have to try it 🙂

  14. I love having my homemade coffee in the mornings.. but when I’m out in the middle of the day I can’t help to buy something at Starbucks sometimes. One of my favorites is the Iced Chai Latte Tea

    • Coco says:

I brew coffee at home too. That Iced Chai Tea Latte sounds really good – I might try one with my next reward. 😉

  15. Wow, sounds like that Starbucks has had some bad luck! I’ve been cheating on Starbucks lately with DD because I’ve been loving their feature flavors! In the fall I will go back to Starbucks because I have several gift cards to use up.

I really need to jump on the Nuun bandwagon!

    Thanks for the link up!

  16. I loved how much cooler the weather was this weekend but it looks like I’ll have to stick with cool drinks for a while longer! I’ve never had cold brew but I think I would like it!

  17. Mike Nomad says:

Cold coffee is never really my thing but seems to be worth a try!

  18. Cari says:

ooh need to give Sparkling + Nuun a go. Sparkling is my preferred anyway.
I’m an iced coffee gal even in dead of winter, but never took to the cold brew. I’m also way more a Dunkin than a Starbucks person so cost is less of an issue
