You probably know that February is American Heart Month, the month when the American Heart Association asks us all to learn more about the risks of heart disease and the steps we can take to improve our odds for staying healthy. You also probably have heard through the Go Red For Women campaign that heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States.
If you’ve been around my blog for a while, you know that I started taking my heart health more seriously after contracting a DVT and losing my Dad to sudden heart failure. I support the American Heart Association through the Lawyers Have Heart 10K, and do my best to encourage friends and family to take care of their hearts.
Because I do care so much, I’d love it if you would click through this link and read one of the short articles with tips for heart-healthy living from the American Heart Association. They have articles on exercise, cooking–even sleep! (This is not a sponsored post or an affiliate link, I just want you to be as healthy as you can be!)
Spread the word to your own friends and followers using this tweet, which includes a link to a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services informational page.

This year Go Red day is on Friday, February 6th, and every Wednesday you can participate in #HeartDayHumpDay on social media by sharing how you are being heart healthy.

Great reminder! I really hate that such a preventable disease is so prevalent in our society…there’s a lot we can do to reduce risks!
Great reminder to get the word out about heart health. There are so many little things you can do to improve your health.
Yes, it’s really an area where small choices can add up and make a big difference.
Great reminder 🙂
Thanks for the heart-healthy link. I’m about to read the article!
Thankfully we don’t have a history of heart disease but have a very close friend who is my age that had a heart attack in September and suffered a terrible brain injury from it. Super fit and healthy, but a bad family history. His life will never be the same. So sad. I’ll be wearing red, you can bet on it!
Oh, that is so tragic! Sometimes you can’t outsmart your genes, but at least you can try.
We try to be very aware – both of Chris’ parent’s had heart problems and my maternal grandmother did, too. Thanks for the reminder and the link to the article!!!
this is such an important topic and great reminder as we kick of February! There are plenty of things we can do to protect ourselves, we just need to keep educated! I will be wearing red on Friday- it happens to be my favorite color!
Great! I have a lot of red to choose from since my son’s high school and college colors were red and white!
