Favorite Fall Activities

Fall is my favorite time of year. The weather turns cool, the trees turn pretty colors, and my calendar is full of fun events. To celebrate the first week of fall, I’m joining this week’s Friday Five link-up and sharing some of my favorite fall activities.

Favorite Fall Activities
1. Running. Fall is my favorite time of year for running. There is nothing like a run on a crisp, cool morning to wake me up and energize me for the rest of the day. I have several great races on my fall calendar, starting with the Reston Perfect 10 this weekend, the Army Ten Miler in October, and the US National 12K in November.

2. Cooking. I really lost my cooking mojo this summer, but there is something about cooler weather that makes me want to get back in the kitchen and fix healthy comfort foods for dinner. This week I made stuffed peppers with the last peppers from my Mom’s garden and this incredibly easy crockpot chicken recipe. I am really looking forward to fixing my favorite recipes from the Runner’s World Cookbook again, and  my husband always likes it when we have chili and cornbread for dinner.

3. Baking. Speaking of getting back in the kitchen, I love baking with pumpkin, especially this time of year! (Click the images for the recipes.)

4. Grey’s Anatomy, Revenge and the ABC Tuesday line-up. Yes, I’m still watching Grey’s Anatomy! I guess it’s on at 8:00 pm this season, which means that I will have to leave work on time so I can be snugly settled on the sofa by 8:00 pm sharp, glass of wine in hand. 😉 My husband and I both enjoy watching Revenge even though it got harder to keep everything straight last season, and Wednesday nights we love all the shows on ABC–from The Middle (which I think is vastly underrated) to Nashville. Did The Goldbergs just start this summer? That’s when we started watching it, and I die at how well it captures the 80’s!

5. Celebrating. Fall brings my anniversary, my birthday, and my daughter’s birthday, not to mention Halloween and Thanksgiving

We’ll be celebrating our 26th anniversary next week!

Were on the same page here in many ways! The running this week has just been perfect, don’t you think? And I love fall cooking, too–soups in particular. And we celebrated our anniversary this week, my husbands birthday next week, and my and my daughters birthdays in Nov!

Happy (early) Anniversary to you and your husband. I would have to agree with every single one of your items (including Greys Anatomy). I am excited for the return of Homeland and hope to make it out to Skyline Drive this fall.

  3. I love fall cooking too but I’m philosophically opposed to making pumpkin things until October 1 :). Still love dressing up for Halloween w my kids.

  4. This is so similar to my favorite fall things! I love that banana bread. 🙂 Happy Anniversary to you and happy birthday. 🙂 Hope you will have a great time celebrating all the special days this fall. Have a great weekend!

  5. I’m looking to get back into cooking more too this fall. It trailed off after our son was born, but starting to get back to it now. This weekend I may even break out one of my cooler weather favorites: cheese beer soup. It’s a recipe that starts with bacon and ends with beer, so can’t go wrong.

  6. I can’t believe Grey’s is still on. I was catching up on Netflix for a while, but then I kinda forgot about it. Guilty pleasure 🙂 I love The Middle!

  7. Congrats on 26 years together. I love the ABC shows too that come on during the fall.

  8. Chili! I feel like it’s only acceptable to make during fall and winter LOL.

  9. Happy early anniversary! I too love that fall means its chili season again! Time to dig out the crock pot and start using it on a more regular basis.

  10. OMG, I’m addicted to Scandal!! I can’t wait to watch it this season!!

  11. Happy Anniversary! We’ll be celebrating our anniversary in October too – 22 yrs 🙂 And I so agree, I love fall cooking – chili, soups and lots of things pumpkin!

  12. oh fun – happy celebrating all those personal events!!I love fall running, of course. And wish I was in to cooking/baking. I have the ability just not the desire.

  13. Those cookies look divine!!! Happy anniversary too – hope all the celebrations are lovely!

  14. I love anything pumpkin. Thanks for the recipe ideas.

  15. I love the fall too! Cool running weather and we get to open the windows up! When the temps cool – out comes the crock pot and anything and everything becomes a new soup recipe! Happy Anniversary, mine is in the fall too!

  16. Kim says:

I always look forward to the first soup or chili of the year in the fall. And I love the changing colors of the leaves.

  17. Cool Saturday morning long runs and Sundays full of football and couch time are my favorite fall activities.
