Update On My Summer Bucket List

Summer is flying by, so it’s a good time to revisit my summer bucket list goals, and see what I’ve got left on my list.  This is an exercise in honesty and accountability, because many of my biggest goals are out of reach now.

Summer Bucket List

I am succeeding with my first two goals–being home for dinner with my son and using the grill to fix dinner several nights a week. Last night, my daughter kicked off her visit by grilling steaks and corn on the cob–such a treat!

I thought goal number three was a gimme, but I ended up DNS-ing my usual July 4th race. I opted for a 10 mile run with one of my MRTT friends the next day instead, and had no regrets.

July 5th Run

My saddest update relates to goal number 4. I just don’t see how I can get to the beach this summer. I was hoping to get away after my son goes back to school, but then realized that he doesn’t start until Labor Day this year! To add insult to injury, my son and daughter decided to take a quick trip to the beach today. I was thisclose to joining them, but then the reality of four adults in the cheap motel room we were able to find at the last minute sunk in, and I wished them well on their adventure. At least I have these pictures from last year.

My husband and I did book a vacation for the fall. It’s going to be fantastic! 🙂

  1. O darn! Sorry you won’t be getting to the beach this summer. At least you have the trip to look forward to in the fall. I’ve done a few beach trips already this summer ( but I don’t live that far so it’s not really a vacation…lol)

  2. Nicole says:

I think I’ll have my summer vacation when the kids are back in school.I’ll have the whole house to myself again. Now that’s my idea of vacation.

  3. Darlene says:

I love the beach too. No vacation this summer –just weekends on our boat (on a lake) and an occasional day off to relax.

  4. Sorry you won’t get to the beach! I’m loving grilled corn right now too!

  5. We’ve been using the grill almost every night as well. I love the taste of hot food off of the grill! Those steaks and corn on the cobs look absolutely delicious!

  6. Sorry you are missing out on the beach! Now that we live in Colorado (moved here a year ago from California), it’s no beach for us either… However, we are hoping to make it to the Outer Banks (NC) at the end of the summer. Fingers crossed…

One of my BFFs from high school had a house at Nag’s Head (or her parents did). Good times and good memories there!

Your shish-ka-bob (i have no idea how to spell it right) looks really good! I like your idea of a Summer bucket list, I’m going to copy that next Summer when I actually have time outside of training a zillion hours a week.

    • Coco says:

I think you do so many fun summer things already! Are you saying you won’t be training for another IM next summer? ‘-)

  8. I’m so sorry the beach vacay this summer isn’t happening but YAY for booking a fall vacation 🙂

  9. I know! I can’t believe summer is flying by. I think that you are doing great so far with you list. I was just thinking about the beach today too and can’t believe that I haven’t made a trip yet!

    • Coco says:

I did step foot on the beach at Del Mar when I was in San Diego for a conference, but I’m not sure that counts. 😉

  10. I want to steal all your grilled food through the computer screen. It looks delicious!

  11. Where are you going on vacation??

  12. I’m sorry you’re not getting to the beach any time soon – but having a fall vacation planned is a win! Where are you going?

  13. oh bummer you won’t be able to get to the beach this summer but at least a vacation in the fall is something to look forward to!

  14. I’m glad you get a fall vacation! Too bad about the beach, I haven’t gotten there much this summer (or at all since the Spring) because of working on the weekends and other stuff.

  15. I love how you put the grilled pictures in a gallery! Is that a plugin you use?

  16. Kim says:

Oh – so sad about the beach!!! But hooray for booking a vacation with your husband!!!
Glad that you are enjoying the summer and dinners at home with your kids!

  17. Jennifer says:

The corn the cob looked amazing – they sold alot of that in Istanbul! Just returned last night 🙂 Yayy for booking your vacation.

  18. I still see a lot of summer for us, but our vacation consisted of a 2 night getaway. It was good – especially because it was a short summer since hubby already started his new job and that was all so crazy. We’ve only been to the beach once if it makes you feel any better and I’m 3 miles away.

    What’s the awesome fall vacation?
