Stripping Down To Running Essentials At The Track

I am officially hooked on my weekly track workouts. The endorphins from pushing myself are great, but I think another reason I like the track so much is that it strips running down to its essentials.

Running Essentials

  • I don’t need to carry water at the track–nothing in my hand, no fuel belt required. I can leave my water bottle on the side and it’s only ever one lap away.
  • I don’t listen to music at the track. I do love listening to music when I run, but when I am pushing my pace I don’t want the distraction of the beat of the music.
  • I am there to run my own race–or my own pace at least. When I run with someone else, I usually try to match my pace to theirs. Even if we generally run at about the same pace, there often is some adjustment to slow down or speed up to remain side-by-side for a long run. Although I do my track workouts with other women from my Moms Run This Town group, we each do our own thing after our warm-up.
  • The one accessory I do need at the track is my Garmin, but even with that there is only one number I focus on–my current pace.

As I was doing my 800s and watching the sky get a bit lighter with each lap, I really appreciated how my workout was stripped down to running essentials:

just me, pushing myself to do my best

To ease the aches of my sore muscles after my track workouts, I’ve been using dōTERRA®’s Deep Blue® Rub that Discover Natural Solutions sent me. (FTC notice: I received a sample of the product to try. All comments and opinions are my own.)

Doterra Deep Blue Rub

Deep Blue® Rub is a lotion that is infused with a blend of essential oils including of wintergreen, camphor, peppermint, blue tansy, German chamomile, helichrysum, and osmanthus. It looks rich out of the tube, but feels light on my skin. After a few seconds, I feel the sensation of soothing warmth on my sore legs. If you use a product like BioFreeze®, you might want to give this a try–it’s much more luxurious!

Discover Natural Solutions has a wide variety of essential oil products, from oils and blends to other lotions and bath products, to supplements. You can check out their Facebook page  or contact laurenborits@gmail.com for more details.

Do you use any lotions, creams or gels to soothe sore muscles?

I don’t run at the track, but there’s a 1-mile loop in my development that’s awesome for sprint intervals. I’m gonna check out your post on PopSugar!

  5. I use BioFreeze to help with tight muscles and cramps.

I love running repeats without music. It just lets me focus on my pace a little more than I do on longer runs. The only muscle rub I’ve used is Biofreeze, but I’m always looking for something new to try. My mom recommended Arnica to try too! Thanks for linking up with us today!
