I tend to go overboard with packing snacks for my trips. It’s not like they don’t sell food where I’m going, but, I don’t like being at the mercy of airport concessions or the over-priced, calorie-dense, nutrient-starved “snack boxes” they sell on airplanes these days, and I’ve been stuck at hotels with only an expensive steak restaurant or peanuts from the mini bar to choose from. So, I tend to err on the side of being over-prepared.
For this trip I made a healthy trail mix with three ingredients that should satisfy whatever salty, sweet, or chocolate cravings I need to attend to.
1. Roasted, salted pumpkin seeds.
2. Dried cranberries
3. Dark Chocolate Chips
Can you believe that’s one serving of chocolate chips?!
Sure it is! 😉
I put them in single-serving bags so I won’t mindlessly eat my week’s supply while wondering if we really have three more hours before we land.
I also am going to give these new Clif bars a try.
I’m a bit worried about the caffeine content, but thought they might come in handy if I need to fight off jet lag.
What do you like to put in trail mix?
Have you tried these caffeinated Cliff bars?
I WANT YOUR SNACK PACK! I WANT YOUR SNACK PACK! I WANT YOUR SNACK PACK! I WANT YOUR SNACK PACK!
I certainly have enough to share! 😉
Good idea on the portion controlled bags. I plow through trail mixes!
I can’t trust myself with a big bag, unless there are others to share it with.
I love trail mix! Almost anything goes to have the salty and slightly sweet winning combo!
((note to self: TRAVEL WITH COCO))
I may be the only person on the planet who has never had any kind of trail mix. I’ve eaten chocolate chips, though. That’s something, right? LOL
I think chocolate chips are the purest kind of trail mix! 😉
I love portion controlled bags and I have had those Clif Bars – caffeine doesn’t really bother me, so I’ve never had a problem. You are the most prepared traveler ever.
At least with snacks, not so much with everything else as I am finding out. Who knew Denmark isn’t on the Euro? 😉
i made something very similar yesterday morning – raw, unsalted almonds; dried cranberries, and mini chocolate chips. it was what i had in the house and was looking for a different snack! must get me some dark chocolate chips!
I need to do better about making portion sized bags – I tend to just plunge my hand in the big bag over and over!
Looks yumy! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
You know, I can’t remember the last time I had trail mix…unless it was a bag mixed with veggies 😉 Pumpkin seeds are delish. Love them in my salads 🙂
It is 100% necessary that I travel with healthy food options. You can beat homemade trail mix!
I LOVE trail mix, the problem is I cannot control my portion size.
That’s why I need the single serving bags!
So smart to do the small baggies! I love the Trader Joe’s Powerberries trail mix. I would rather make my own but they’ve been out of the Powerberries lately. It has cashews, almonds, cranberries and Powerberries (chocolate balls with berry stuff inside).
