November Goal Setting

More And Less

With my hectic October behind me, I think it is time to do some goal setting to shore up my healthy foundation during the month of November, before the holiday season is upon us.

1. Be thankful. Although Thanksgiving isn’t for a few more weeks, I am inspired by my friend Angie to focus on being thankful every day throughout November. I know that I am blessed in many ways, but I could do better at acknowledging and appreciating the many reasons–big and small–I have to be grateful.

2. Sleep more. Yes, I am still working on this goal. While I have been better about going to bed by 11:00 pm most nights, that still only gets me 6 hours of sleep, which is not enough. Also, I really need to make myself go to bed when I’m tired, instead of letting myself fall asleep on the sofa while watching tv.

3. Snooze less. No matter what time I get to bed, I usually get up when my alarm first goes off, but for the past few weeks I’ve been hitting snooze for 9 more minutes in bed. Even if that’s not such a bad habit, I’d rather have those 9 minutes when I’m awake, for my morning workout/coffee/facebook/blogging time.

4. Play more. After a hectic month of business travel in October, I am trying to restore more life in my work-life balance. Although I do have three business trips in November, they are only overnight trips on weekdays. This month brings my birthday, my daughter’s birthday, and Thanksgiving, so I will have plenty of occasions to have fun with family and friends.

5. Snack less. Over the past few weeks I’ve gotten into a routine of working late, eating a plate of leftovers when I get home, and then snacking in an attempt to make up for my less than satisfying dinner and counteract the stress of the day. While there is nothing wrong with having a snack if I am hungry, it’s becoming more of a habit than anything else, and that needs to stop.

Have you set any goals for November?

It is my birthday and my daughter’s as well (today and tomorrow). November is a good month!

Great goals. I have to say–i am amazed you are making it on 6 hours. I couldn’t do it. Good luck getting more and feeling more energized!

  3. I need to make sleep more a goal of mine. I’ve been terrible about it and it’s probably the reason I’m sick…again. OY! I love all of your goals and they all seem so timely for this time of year. PS can’t wait to see you in a few weeks!

  4. I have no other goals other than to listen to my body and the Universe 🙂

Great list of goals – I don’t really have any current goals other than to try and stay stress free as much as possible!!!

Get enough sleep is esp important in view of recently published studies on why we need to sleep enough, including getting those Beta amyloid plaques and other toxins flushed out of your brain!

  7. No goals! ugh! I think I’ve decided to just skip Nov and Dec and start setting goals for 2014 🙂
