Training Log: Rock’n’Roll USA Half Marathon (Week 8)

I am feeling good about my running this week, but I am not excited about my training. I’ve got two more weeks until the Rock’n’Roll USA Half Marathon and then two 10 mile races in April, so it is not a good time to lose my mojo! I kept up with my running, but didn’t do any hill or speed workouts.

Here’s a look at my Training Log for the week:

Monday (Weights)
Elliptical: 15 min warm-up
Weights: 45 min full body routine
Walking: 1.5 miles (afternoon dog walk)

Tuesday (Elliptical/Run)
Elliptical: 30 min intervals
I was not in the mood to hit the treadmill, and was going to do some yoga instead, but our DVR wouldn’t work. 🙁 Since I didn’t have on my running clothes, I hopped on the elliptical and pushed through 30 minutes.
Running: 3.7 mi run
I was home early after a meeting, the weather was gorgeous, the dog was energetic, and I found my mojo and took her out for a quick run before my next conference call.

Wednesday (Weights)
Elliptical: 10 min warm-up
Weights: 45 min full body routine

Thursday (Easy Run)
Running: 4.1 mile run with Tiger Lilly (avg 9:40-ish pace)
Yoga: free one hour yoga class at work!
I learned that there is yoga every Monday (for $16) in a conference room at work. How did I not know that??? I can’t do it every week, but I will try to do it once or twice a month. The instructor is really good and I like to support the efforts to promote health and fitness at work.

Friday (Playing Hooky Long Run)
Walking: 1.5 mile (morning dog walk)
Long Run: 11 miles; 1:41 (avg. pace 9:10 min/mile)
On Thursday my friend and I compared family schedules and the weather forecast for the weekend and decided that it was going to be really hard to fit in an 11 mile run around the thunderstorms forecast for Saturday and her business trip early Sunday. Since our schedules were clear for Friday morning, we decided we could skip a few hours of work at run on the Capital Crescent Trail. The weather was great–sunny and in the low 40s–and we had a great run. The trail is a steady but gentle climb heading out of the city, so we basically ran 5.5 miles uphill and 5.5 miles downhill. We finished strong, showered at the new gym at work, got coffee (her) and oatmeal (me) at Starbucks, and were at our desks before 11:00. 🙂

Saturday
Walking: 2 miles (morning dog walk)
After my double workout Tuesday (30 min elliptical, outdoor run), my double workout Thursday (45 min weights, 60 min yoga), and my long run Friday, I might just be due for a double rest day weekend. 🙂
