Is Lent Over Yet?

Today is Palm Sunday, when Christians around the world commemorate the events leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus and hear the Passion Gospel, when Jesus dies on the cross. While Lent isn’t over yet, it’s hard to stay in the mindset of fasting and self-denial while getting ready to celebrate Easter. Well, in a normal year that would be hard. This year it’s all about self-denial, if not fasting.

While neither the pandemic nor Lent are laughing matters, I think it’s important to keep a sense of humor. If you’re offended you can add another negative review to my Facebook page.

Adjusting To A New Normal

We’ve been seriously social distancing for two weeks now (although it feels like forever), and it’s clear we’re not going to be getting together in real life anytime soon. While I am adjusting to a new normal, I’m saddened by additional restrictions that have closed parks and parking lots at trail heads. I’m grateful to have such a strong virtual social network and opportunities like this for distance socializing.

Speaking of distance socializing, Deborah and I hope you will join us for the April Ultimate  Coffee Date next weekend. We will open the (link-up) doors on Friday and keep the coffee brewing all weekend. It’s one social event we can still participate in!

Socially Distant Runfessions

With church canceled until at least May 8, can you blame me for almost forgetting our monthly runfessions? Luckily the runfessional over at Marcia’s Healthy Slice is never closed, and we can practice safe social distancing while cleansing our souls soles.

Social Distancing Workouts

Things are still changing quickly, but unlike last week, now the direction they’re heading is more clear. We’ve gone from limiting socializing to groups of 50 or less, to groups of 10 or less, to social distancing, and even to sheltering in place. While shelter-in-place orders are scary, with everyone interpreting the other guidelines differently, extreme measures seem to be required to get people to really minimize exposure to/contact with others. At times like these, our virtual social networks help us cope by giving us opportunities for distance socializing.

I haven’t been actively involved in my law firm’s Coronavirus Task Force, but I do skim the flurry of emails on the latest legal developments (from relief packages to FDA guidance to shut-down orders) before they get posted to our Coronavirus  Resource Center. It’s a stressful distraction from my other work, but also interesting to see how federal, state, and local governments are reacting, and how we are trying to help clients identify and address ripple effects and unintended consequences. With my team members working at home, we’re having daily conference calls to “touch base,” spending most of the time on chit-chat because checking in on how they’re doing is as important as knowing what they’re doing.
