Spring Fever Coffee Date

Welcome to the March 2021 edition of the Ultimate Coffee Date. Even though I’m still wearing a mask and washing my hands like it’s my job, I feel more vulnerable than ever to spring fever. Wouldn’t it be nice to grab a table outside for a real coffee date? These virtual meet-ups are the next best thing, so Deborah and I encourage you to participate and visit new blogs in the link up.

February: Check, Done!

February was a fast and furious month. The weather was all over the place with a bit of snow and a lot of ice. I had to work every weekend to keep from getting too far behind. The monotony of still staying safer at home and the time it’s taking for my fractured hand to heal wore on me. I am ready to turn the page on my wall calendar and say “check, done!” to February 2021.

The last week of February teased us with sunshine and temperatures in the mid-60s. I know March weather can be fickle, but at least there’s more daylight to get us through.

Recovering Runfessions

On Wednesday I shared my thoughts on the confession my church is using during Lent, but now it’s time to share my February runfessions. Even though I’m still recovering from my fall, I’m ready to cleanse my soul soles at Marcia’s runfessional.

Deborah and I will be hosting the March Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend. We’ll open the (link-up) doors Friday March 5th, and keep the coffee brewing.

A Confession For These Unprecedented Times

I’m often struck by the timelessness of the prayers in the Book of Common Prayer. Sure, the language has been updated a few times since 1662–and more significant liturgical changes were made in 1928 and 1979–but many of the prayers remain essentially the same.

confession part 1

That the same prayers resonate from generation to generation reflects the universality of the human condition–we have the same fundamental hopes, needs, worries, and regrets as those who lived in vastly different times. So what does it mean when a traditional confession is fitting for these unprecedented times?

Celebrating Perseverance

As I enter my 6th week of recovering from my fractured rib and hand, and my 50th week of staying safer at home, I’ve got to say it’s all gotten quite old. Instead of wallowing in my own whininess, I am celebrating the perseverance of the scientists and engineers who have worked for years on NASA’s Mars 2020 Perseverance mission.

I’m sure they endured set-backs and delays that made them wonder if they ever would see the rover land safely on Mars. It’s impossible to watch the landing video without cheering along with them.
