Hiking To Annapolis Rock

My husband and I both have new hiking boots to break in, so this weekend we went hiking on the Appalachian Trail to Annapolis Rock.

Hiking To Annapolis Rock

We are planning a multi-day hiking vacation this summer, so now is the time to start breaking in our new hiking boots. My husband has hiked in Greenbrier State Park (in Maryland) many times, but it was my first. He suggested the trail to Annapolis Rock and it was perfect—challenging enough, long enough (~7.25 miles), and a rewarding view.

Greenbrier State Park is less than 90 min away on a Saturday morning. We got an early start and were on the trail by 8:30. The weather was overcast and in the upper 50s—perfect for hiking.

The trickiest part of the trail was the 0.6 mile spur up to the Appalachian Trail—it was steep, narrow, and rocky—luckily our new boots were up to the challenge.

Overall the route was mostly up on the way and down on the way back, but there were enough changes in terrain to give our legs a break.

As we got closer to Annapolis Rock, we encountered more people—many with dogs—but it didn’t feel crowded. After taking a few photos we refueled with a snack on the rocks before heading back.

Overall, it was a great way to spend the morning.  I’m sure we’ll go back to check out other trails.

Weekly Run Down

The rest of the week I planned my workouts around Week 2 of the Peloton Spring Cross-Training Plan and mostly stayed on track with an extra work-from-home day or two. 😉

Sunday I decided to re-take the first Week 1 tread class on my tread since I had taken it live running outside in Chicago and didn’t really follow the intervals.

Monday I couldn’t wait to take Katy’s strength class live, so I did a strength warm-up and a 30 min ride with Hannah F.

Tuesday I had to leave my house @ 8:00 for a meeting at the Patent Office and had  just enough time to take Andy’s run live. After walking Scooby I re-took the Week 1 core class and Monday’s strength class, so by the time I finished Andy’s run I was all caught up.

Wednesday I went off-plan again, with light strength classes and a 30 min ride.

Thursday I decided to work-from-home so I could take Katy’s strength class live. 🫢 I also caught up on Wednesday’s core class.

Friday I hopped on my treadmill about 10 min before Andy’s class started, so I ended up with 5.5 miles at the end of his 45 min class. The 30 min class is programmed around 30 second  intervals (which I love), but the 45 min class builds to 1 min and 90 second intervals which are tough! 🥵

Overall, I am really liking the plan but not the schedule. I can see how the strength classes are programmed to complement running, and like how the running classes are progressing. The one thing missing is a “long” run, but I guess that’s what the weekend  is for—if you don’t go hiking instead.😉

What about my knee you ask? My orthopedist appointment was rescheduled to this Thursday. Given that my knee didn’t make a peep during all that hiking, maybe I should cancel it, but I’m afraid if I do it will flare up again.

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Deborah and I hope to see you at the Ultimate Coffee Date link-up on Friday! Can you believe it will be May?

  1. I was wondering how the spring training plan was? I’ve heard mixed (like with everything peloton). Your hike looks really nice. I’ve not been to that area before

Annapolis Rock reminds me of Gibraltar Rock, a Wisconsin hike I’ve shared often on my blog! Very cool! My son and I are going up to northern Wisconsin next weekend to hike. It’s becoming my favorite thing to do.
