My Week Avoiding Added Sugar

Last week I finally made good on my promise to get my eating back in line. Laura hosted a 7 Day Sugar Detox on Facebook, so I polished off the last piece of peppermint bark, stashed my other Christmas chocolates in the pantry, and stocked up on plain yogurt and natural peanut butter to get through a week of avoiding added sugar.

The most surprising thing about my week avoiding added sugar is how easy it was. Don’t get me wrong, it took planning and preparation, but I already don’t eat much sugar until after dinner. The best thing about my week avoiding added sugar is that it helped me break my cycle of after-dinner snacking. While Laura’s program focused on added sugar, she also encouraged us to limit processed foods, so I kept my hands out of the chips, even though they don’t have added sugar. Continue reading

Moving On In 2017

As I’ve shared in my past few posts, my nest is empty again. My son starts grad school on Monday, at a university far, far, away. It’s a transition to celebrate for sure, but I’m also celebrating the fact that I’m sad to see him move out of the house again. 

“Boomerang” kids may get a bad wrap, but it was really nice to spend time with my son without the parent-child tensions that dominated the last few years of high school. It was a real treat to watch him transition into responsible adulthood–and I’m not just saying that because he liked to cook dinner. 🙂  Continue reading

Five Goals On Turning 50
