One of the most surprising things we saw at Yellowstone National Park was the mudpots. Imagine walking past what appears to be a white, sandy field and hearing an ominous, gurgling bubbling sound.
That’s a large pool of boiling mud in the distance,
just before the trees.

It’s hard to pick favorites from our week at Yellowstone National Park, but we saw so many cool things hiking at Yellowstone Grand Prismatic Hot Spring, those trails top our list. It was our first time seeing hot springs, geysers, and mudpots close up, so that could be why it made such a huge impression.

Several thousand bison roam free in Yellowstone —we saw quite a few of them!
One of the first things we learned about bison is that “bison” (actually, Bison bison) is the scientific name for what we also call buffalo. “Oh give me a home where the Bison bison roam” doesn’t have quite the same meter ….
It would not be possible to capture an amazing week of hiking in Yellowstone National Park in a weekly wrap post. It’s hard to believe how much we saw and learned in just five days. As our guide promised at the beginning of the week, our first trip to Yellowstone would whet our appetite to come back for more. Hopefully this post will have the same effect, and entice you to come back and read more about the wonders of Yellowstone over the next few weeks.
