I had an unusual schedule this week, staying at my Mom’s one night before spending two nights in Chicago before hosting some friends over the weekend. My workout schedule took a hit, but fitting in my runs was a top priority.

Fitting In My Runs
While I was in Chicago my Mom had a follow-up appointment with her orthopedist and got great news—her knee is healing well enough to ditch the immobilizing brace, start putting weight on that leg, and up the ante on physical therapy. It will take time and hard work to recover from the past 6 weeks, but I think she’s going to make a lot of progress quickly.❤️
Sunday: Parkway Classic 10 Mile Run
It feels like this race was ages ago! If you haven’t seen my recap yet, check it out.
Monday: Core + 3.25 Miles
I snuck out for a short run before my Mom was ready to get up. For those of you who asked if I think ice baths really help—yes! My legs felt fresh on this run, even though my ITB was still nagging a bit.
Tuesday: 20 min walk with Scooby
I just had time to walk Scooby before heading to the airport. I had an 8 am flight, but breezed through security and picked up my ordered-ahead Starbucks quickly enough to walk onto the 7 am flight. I was the annoying person who took the previously empty middle seat in the exit row. 😬 I did lots of walking at O’Hare between my gate and the train station—and walked quickly enough for my Garmin to track it as an activity.
Wednesday: 6 mile Run
It was cold in Chicago, but I was ready for it—I thought I was done with my running gloves for the season, but dug them out for this trip. It was fully light when I started @ 6 am, but I still managed to get a sunrise photo.
It was such an amazing morning.
I spent the entire time being grateful to be out running.
Thursday: 10 min Core
I squeezed in a 10 min core class in my hotel room before heading to the airport for another 8 am flight. I logged another “walk” at O’Hare since United didn’t tell me until after I went through security near the B gates that my flight was now departing from the far end of the E gates.
Friday: 45 min FB Strength
It was pouring rain in the morning, so I opted for a strength class after taking Scooby out for a wet walk. It was my 1999th Peloton strength class. Too bad the live schedule won’t align for my 2000th!
Saturday: 6.15 Scooby Miles
It was still drizzly when I headed out with Scooby, but he got more wet from the sidewalk than rain. I figured an hour run was the most I could get away with with company back at the house. 😉
My ITB is getting better, but there’s still something going on that’s limiting my pace. I’m encouraged that I can run pain-free if I dial it back, but being careful about pushing my limits so I don’t push my luck.
A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.
If you have houseguests, will you sneak out for a run?
What a busy week! I’m glad that the weather cooperated when you were here, because it hasn’t been very nice at all. Off to read your race recap!
It was chilly but fantastic!
I always think it feels cold in Chicago even in the summer time. It is a fun city to run in. Looks like you fit in your runs just fine. Hope that ITB is better. Great news for your mom
Glad you enjoyed your time in Chicago and were able to run here! Our spring is a cold one. Great news about your mom’s knee!
Sounds like a fun (and busy) week- you got in some good runs, which is especially great since it was the week following a race. I’m glad to hear the news about your mom, and to answer your question, I haven’t had houseguests in a while but I would DEFINITELY sneak out for a run!
We have the same theme this week… great minds!
I am so grateful to be running. I try to repeat that when I get frustrated with running so slow and walking so often. Pain-free running is so important.
Great news about your mom!
Looks like a gorgeous brisk morning for a run in Chicago! Isn’t it amazing how much walking those airport days can be? I got in a ton of steps on our travel back from Vienna day, way more than I expected.
Glad the ice bath helped! Off to read your race recap now.
Busy week for you! Glad your ITB is relatively quiet. And great news about your mom!
That was quite the whirlwind trip to the Windy City! I’m happy to hear about your mom’s progress and her recovery. Hopefully, things will continue to go well for her. It’s been awhile since we’ve had overnight guests (other than the kids staying with us). I would definitely get out for an early run (or even a walk or bike ride) since no one is ever up as early as me anyways. I hope your ITB feels better!
I’m always amazed at how you manage to stick to your fitness schedule despite all the other things going on. Well done!
My house guests know that they have to come WITH ME for a run… haha, that’s why most “normal people” avoid staying with us! 🙂
Well boo, that last topic about the limiting pace and nagging pain is the boat I am in right now too. It sucks! Hope it gets better for both of us. Those views of Chicago never get old. So pretty!
That is great news about your mom. Probably a big relief for you too!
Good news for your mom! and I’m pretty sure I mentioned to you last week on socials that I wasn’t jealous AT ALL of your Chicago run??? hahaha!
sorry to hear there is still something niggling. that sucks but maybe it’s just a question of time?
That’s very good news about your mom!
Well done fitting all your workouts in around work, flights, guests and whatnot. It sounds tricky but you did it – and congrats on your 1999th strength class. The morning run in Chicago looks cold but refreshing. I hope your ITB gets better! I would probably go out for a run even if I had guests, perhaps just get up a bit earlier than them.
That is absolutely fantastic news about your mom! So happy to hear that her recovery continues to go well.
Awesome job fitting in all of those workouts, despite a crazy busy week that included travel.
I really do miss Chicago. It’s so pretty, even when it’s cold.
Even with the disrupted schedule, you really made the most of it, AND got Scooby time and pretty pictures. All in all, a victory.
