I honestly can’t believe it’s December already. My year-end to-do list is a mile long and with a week in Chicago for work, it’s going to be a demanding month.
Sometimes I feel like I am typing as fast as I can to meet deadlines.
Demanding December
So, how did I end up with such a demanding December? I have a new client with a major deadline this week, four days of meetings in Chicago (inconveniently on Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday), clients needing to meet late month deadlines early because of their vacations, plus all the holiday shopping, decorating, baking, and wrapping. I am so stressed about the lack of headway I’ve made on my Christmas shopping that I had a nightmare it was Christmas morning and I didn’t have anything for anyone. 😳🧑🎄
That new client deadline consumed a chunk of my Thanksgiving weekend, but I did get out to the Black Friday sale at my local running store before my 8:30 am conference call.
I’m glad I went to the store instead of ordering shoes on-line, because the current model of the GT-2000s I’ve been wearing felt totally different with noticeably more arch support that scared me. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! After trying on comparable models of Brooks (Adrenaline) and New Balance, I ended up liking the feel of the non-stability Asics Gel-Cumulus best. Since I’m not logging long miles these days, I figured they wouldn’t be too risky. So far so good after one treadmill run, although they definitely feel cushier than the GT-2000s.
Weekly Run Down
With so many other demands, I am giving myself a lot of grace with my workout schedule. After saying how easy it should be to average 60 minutes/day, I proceeded to fall short of that goal several times this week. It is what it is.
Sunday: 1 mile Scooby Walk
My son and his wife were visiting, and after staying up past my bedtime I only had time to walk Scooby before church. I could have done a workout after they went home, but I opted to watch football and nap instead. 🤭
It was a gorgeous sunrise
Monday: 20 min FB Strength + 3.25 Tread Miles
Monday I was ready to get back to it, so I paired a solid strength class with a 30 min tread class. Hannah’s playlist was based on songs released in the 80s and 90s from the same artists—clever!
Tuesday: 20 min FB Strength + 1.5 Tread Miles
I had a 7:30 am conference call I had to do from the office, so I was hoping to take Scooby out for a run to be efficient. That plan didn’t work out because by the time I’d done my 5 min pre-run warm-up, it was pouring. I grabbed my umbrella to walk Scooby instead, and then had just enough time for a short strength class with Jess Sims and a quick run with Camila.
Wednesday: Core + 10 min LB Strength + 5.0 Scooby Miles
Wednesday I was working from home to get a head start on my apple pie, so I was able to take Scooby out for a run. It was dark for more of my run than I expected, but then I was treated to a fiery orange sunrise.
Thursday (Thanksgiving): 45 min FB Feast Strength + 20 min Peloton Ride
I got up early to get my pumpkin pie in the oven before taking Peloton’s live strength class at 7:30 am. After that, I hopped on my bike for a 20 min ride with Hannah F and then into the shower before our guests arrived.
(Black) Friday: 1 mile Scooby Walk
I set my alarm for 5:30 am and took Scooby out for a walk before hitting up that Black Friday sale. I got back in time to have breakfast before my 8:30 am conference call, and then spent most of the day working. 🤷♀️
Saturday: Core + Barre + 4.0 Tread Miles
It was in the upper 20s Saturday morning, but I was planning on a treadmill run anyway, to test out my new shoes. After sitting at my computer for nearly 10 hours on Friday, I treated my body to a long warm-up before hopping on my tread.
A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.
Despite my demanding December, I’m looking forward to our coffee date link-up on Friday and hope to see you there!
Ugh, your December is giving me stress from afar. I hope all goes well with everything, and you’re able to give yourself some grace. I’m sure Scooby appreciates every minute you can share a walk with him 🙂
I always thought everyone worked less in December! Hope the second half of your month is less busy. Sounds like a great Thanksgiving. I have to work in that Peloton T day class this week at some point. I’m in the middle of Andy’s TS@ so not sure where to do it!
Wow- you had a LOT going on this week. I thought my week was busy, but I didn’t have any extra work. Sounds like December is going to be… interesting for you. I certainly hope you’ll get some time to relax when all this is over! Btw I also have not started my Christmas shopping, eek.
I can’t believe it’s December… too busy even to think about the holidays… funerals, vacation, work… OY!
So lot’s of grace on the miles and healthy eating.
I had items in my cart yesterday but I refrained. I didn’t buy a thing.
Your crazy December schedule is giving me PTSD from working retail during the holidays. I remember one year working 17 days straight without a day off. I hated it and got back into the fitness field after my oldest son was born. I hope the second half of your month is less hectic!
Ugh your December schedule sounds so stressful! Hoping everything goes well and isn’t too hard to manage.
I’m so sorry that you’ve had such a rough week! I am looking forward to running with you next Sunday–depending on how my hubs feels after surgery on Weds this week. He says he will be “FINE” (lol), so I’m counting on it. The kids and I also have our Krampus parade on Friday and I sure don’t want to miss that!
I’ll be in touch!
Hopefully you are the type of person who excels under pressure (I have a feeling you are!). I just started my Christmas shopping recently and I feel like I have a pretty good handle on it. This month will fly by too fast! Hang in there and find some time for you 🙂
