Already Time For The August Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would have to say that as long as July was, it’s still hard to believe that it’s already August. I spent last weekend visiting my daughter in Colorado and finally booked a few days at the beach at the end of the month.

Kristin and MaxMy daughter and her boyfriend on one of our hikes.

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you’ve encountered any major travel delays this summer. We tried to minimize the risks by booking the first flights of the day and not checking bags. Getting up at those dark o’clock alarms were rough, but everything else went smoothly.

Gorgeous sunrise at the airport!

If we were having coffee, I would admit that as frugal as I am about some things, I do not feel guilty spending nearly $5 on a grande Americano when I go into the office. It’s my one coffee of the day, and always tastes just right.

My husband knows better than to question my Starbucks budget.

Speaking of tasting just right, the barista told me they do not plan to bring back the self-serve milk and cream. 🙁 It’s not a big deal when I’m at work—I can get my own in our office kitchen—but I hate asking someone else to add half and half because I just want a splash, not a latte’s worth.

 D5/E4 looks right to me.

If we were having coffee, I tell you about the time a few weeks ago when my shoes crumbled underneath me. It happened while I was at work—luckily I had a spare pair of flats in my office. I guess it’s long past time to buy new sandals!

Later I noticed a trail of shoe crumbs in the hallway.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I finally tackled—and finished—the most difficult puzzle I got for Christmas. For the second time, there was an extra edge piece.

Dali’s The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory
I think Erica may have seen the original?

If we were having coffee, I would ask if you have any vacation plans for August?

Aww, glad you got to spend time with your daughter! Colorado is such a gorgeous state!

Props to you on finishing that puzzle! It definitely looks hard!

  2. Wendy says:

How fun that you got to see your daughter in Colorado. What a beautiful place to live! I do have 2 more trips planned for August–in differently directions! Hoping to avoid any travel debacles. One trip is on American and i know they are having a lot of issues lately. Fingers crossed!

    Nice job on the puzzle!.

  3. Marcia says:

How nice to spend time with your daughter! I’m so looking forward to have my older girl home from Portland for a bit before she goes back to school. We don’t have any travel plans until our big trip over the holidays and I am feeling it! Enjoy the beach!

  4. Isn’t mother/daughter time wonderful! Our youngest was home for the better part of two weeks recently (in between apartment leases), and her & I had some awesome quality time together. A bonus was when the other daughter came home on a Friday night and the three of us had a major “mom & daughters” gab session the next day. I’m glad you had a nice time in Colorado.

  5. So glad you got to spend some time with your daughter and yay for planning a beach getaway! I have no more travel plans until November and by then I’m hoping the airlines will have their acts together!

    Nice work on that puzzle!

That’s great that you had a fun weekend with your daughter. You picked a good week to get out of our weather. We have been pretty lucky w traveling this summer. The only delay I had was going to Houston. I am also not a fan of the coffee places adding in creamer for me. I like it how I like it.

  7. Darlene says:

No travel plans until October but that’s by car.

I hope it was cooler in Colorado. I’m sure you had fun anyway.

I’m frugal too but I’m with you, sometimes I need my Starbucks!!

  8. Hiking in CO sounds divine right now! Although I am SO not a fan a fan of the early morning flights.

I think we all have the things we spend money on, and the other things we don’t care about. Sorry about the lack of being able to pour in your own creamer.

That hike in Colorado looks amazing! That must have been a great visit. My travel plans for this month are driving to Texas with my son- I’m looking forward to it, because this time I’m flying home. I haven’t been doing any of those severely early morning flights lately, and I paid for it with a delay when I went home from Chicago. Fingers crossed for the flight home from Texas, especially since I have to make a connection.
I definitely splurge on Starbucks. I used to feel guilty about it, but then I figured it makes my life happier so it’s worth it!

Oh how fun to be in Colorado! I’m nervous to fly – I love travel, but I’m a bad flyer so it’s been hard.

Cool puzzle! It looks like a huge challenge.

I’m with you on the D4 coffee (although I want mine on ice). To be honest, I really am preferring my Stōk iced coffee at home to what I’m getting out lately. But that’s on me.

I didn’t realize you hate flying. I only mind it when there’s turbulence, and then I just need a nap to recover.

  12. What a gorgeous sunrise at the airport! We are going to the beach house in late August/early September and Acadia National Park in October.

Thanks for the linkup and have a great weekend!

  13. That one’s not in the Museum we visited! But many other famous ones are.

That show break was pretty epic!

  14. Catrina says:

I love your “son-in-law’s” hiking boots! Haha! I seems to be the nature-loving, outdoorsy type. A nice fit for your family.
I wonder, do they add an extra edge piece on purpose to the puzzles these days?

  15. Renée says:

I’m also shocked that it’s already August!

No travel delays yet, but my flight to Stavanger and back is already changed… we were flying out early there and flying back later, now it’s the opposite. I guess I should just be happy the flights aren’t scrapped all together but it’s a bit of a bummer.

When I go to the office I ALSO spend the money on a Grande triple shot latte. The coffee at work is disgusting so it’s the only one I have all day (after the 2 at home *ahem*). That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

RIP to those sandals. I was shocked when I saw you post that! Never had anything like that happen to me!

Do you think they give those extra edge pieces to trip people up??

Only vacation plans for August is really a long weekend for the Half Marathon (part of marathon training). I’m excited to go to Norway but it’s so little time we’ll hardly really see anything. One of my parkrun core team members is from Scotland but lived in Stavanger for years so she’s given some great tips for things to see that will also keep us off our feet.

    • Coco says:

I found a chunk of that shoe in my car! It was really falling apart.

I really wonder about the extra puzzle pieces. I mainly hope someone isn’t missing a piece!

LOL at your coffee routine. Too much caffeine messes me up, so I fix a decaf in the Keurig to drink on my way to the office Starbucks.

  16. Glad you spent time with your daughter! I haven’t traveled in over two years but I would also pick the earlier flights in case of any cancellations. What is up with the extra piece? I feel like this isn’t the first time it has happened to you, right?

  17. Cari says:

Yep yep on first flights, although I did check luggage since Alaska required too many outfit options for carry on. I also do that to make the most of my time at the destination
Yes, “a splash” is hard to ask for because my splash isn’t the same as your splash. At least when I’m not drinking it black “one equal” is a lot more measurable.
