So, now you know how my week went. I love my strength workouts. I’ve found Peloton instructors who can make me look forward to hopping on my Schwinn IC4 bike. But, still, I’d rather be running.
The only time I wasn’t feeling like I’d rather be running was on our weekend bike ride. Thank goodness for the nice weather that made that possible. 🌸
I’d Rather Be Running
After insisting my foot would be better in a week or two, I faced reality and gave it time to recover this week. The first few days without running were fine, but as the week wore on it got harder and harder to stay off my new treadmill. It didn’t help that I went into my office, driving by my favorite D.C. running routes and seeing others enjoying our nice spring running weather ….
I feel like I should get a prize for resisting the urge to run this week. I feel like that prize should be a 100% recovered foot. Unfortunately, my foot feels otherwise. 🙁
Weekly Run Down
The big news in the world of Peloton this week was the announcement of a $5/month increase in the monthly “All-Access Membership” fee owners of Peloton equipment have to pay. (For now, the app subscription is staying at $12.99/month.) It’s unrealistic to expect membership fees to stay the same forever, but for people who recently purchased a Peloton Bike or Tread planning on paying $39/month, the price hike can feel like a bait-and-switch, especially since Peloton also announced significant price reductions on their equipment. The reality is Peloton can make more money on recurring membership fees, so it makes sense for them to lower the initial buy-in price to get more members.
In addition tonot running, my schedule was complicated by going into the office Monday-Wednesday. And, even though it didn’t feel great, I did take Scooby on his morning walk (~1 mile) every day. The fresh air was worth the temporary discomfort.
Monday: 15 min Bodyweight Strength + 30 min Peloton Ride
I thought Alex’s bodyweight class was going to be mostly core, but it was about 1/3 core, 1/3 upper body, and 1/3 lower body. Hannah’s HIIT and Hills classes are always a high-energy sweat-fest, and this one was no exception.
Tuesday: Core + FB Strength + 30 min Peloton Ride
I don’t usually take Cody’s classes, but I’m trying to mix things up while I have to get to do so many rides. In the Live DJ classes, the DJ is there with the instructor, so there’s real-time banter and joking which help make the time fly.
Wednesday: Core + LB Strength
I was getting frustrated that my foot still wasn’t better—and regretting wearing pumps to work on Tuesday—so I skipped cardio altogether. Believe it or not, squats and rear lunges don’t bother it all.
Thursday: Core + FB Strength + 30 min Ride
I came ^thisclose^ to hopping on my treadmill, but I figured if I could resist, I wouldn’t be tempted again until Sunday. I knew CDE’s New Wave ride would be a fun one, so I did the smart thing. Shocking, I know!
Friday: Core + LB Strength + Flash 15
I was wrong about not being tempted to run again, but I held my ground. You can see my workouts are getting shorter, though—I’m definitely getting bored without that running option to mix things up.
Saturday: Core + 30 mile Ride
This was my first ride in April, our first group ride of 2022, and our first time doing the Conte’s Old Town ride since 2019. (Last year we did the Conte’s Hill Ride out of the Falls Church store). The weather was great, it was fun riding with others, and I didn’t wish I was running instead. 😉
Sunday (Easter): Core + 3.5 mile Tread
Sunday I threw caution—and good sense—to the wind and hopped on my treadmill. I won’t lie, my foot felt uncomfortable. I’ll let you know next week if I regret those 33 minutes of running, because popular fitness slogan aside, sometimes you DO regret a workout.
After church we went for a very windy bike ride, and stopped at the floral photo-op in National Landing (a/k/a the north end of Crystal City rebranded for the new Amazon site coming soon).
So, my foot is still not better, and I’m getting bored, frustrated, and grumpy. If I weren’t embarking on two weeks of business trips (with a brief stop at home next weekend to do laundry and re-pack), I might be heading back to the podiatrist. 😕
A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.
Happy Easter! Please save me your black jelly beans.
Oh no, Coco! I’m so sorry!
I can empathize with you. My bike was my saving grace when I was off running for nearly a year. Thank heavens for bikes and good weather! Love the cherry blossoms in the background.
Sounds like you have very busy two weeks ahead of you. At least your business trips will distract you from your uncooperative foot and the rest will work wonders, I’m sure.
I think the tree is a Bradford Pear. Pretty but with a dangerous tendency to drop big limbs!
Considering what Peloton charges for their equipment, it seems pretty rude to expect you to pay for the classes, much less pay more! Glad you are getting your money’s worth out of it. I sure hope your foot settles down.
Well, I don’t expect the instructors and production teams to work for free — they film tons of new classes every day — it’s just always tough to get used to higher prices.
Oh no… so sad about your foot.
But I am actually nervous about mine…
At least you keep active with your workouts and biing.
But I know it’s hard NOT to run.
Oh, no, I hope your foot behaves itself!
Me too. It feels ok today. Haven’t run on it yet.
Ha, i feel like I should rename by blog “I’d Rather Be Running.” I know how frustrated you must feel- it’s hard when you want to run but think maybe you shouldn’t but there’s no clear cut reason not to (i.e. fracture or sprain) so then you try running and it kind of hurts and you’re not sure if you’re making it worse…. ARG! Sometimes you just have to try and see what happens- I hope it feels good this week after your Sunday run. In the meantime I’m glad you were able to enjoy the bike! Good luck this week. Happy Easter!
That would be a good blog name! It covers a lot of territory.
Ouch on the foot, so sorry to hear about your turmoil. I hope it feels better soon <3 Meanwhile, I am jealous of your (outdoor!) bike ride! It's still too cold here, and my bikes both should probably have a professional tune-up…so I'm "stuck" inside for the time-being for my cycling. Fingers crossed things go better this week…
I’m lucky that my husband does all our bike maintenance. It’s one of his hobbies. 😉
Props to you for resisting the run Coco! I know that is not easy. I’m sorry your foot is not feeling great. Glad you got out for a good ride though. When I initially looked at Peloton when it was brand new, the price of equipment with a subscription on top was a deal breaker. What a bummer the price will increase. Ugh.
The monthly fee is way less than any fitness studios, so it all depends on what you compare it to. I’m still paying $20/month for the Corepower App I forget to use — I really should cancel it.
Oh Coco, I’m sorry your foot is still causing you pain. How frustrating when you want to run so badly! I hope you didn’t regret the 33 minutes today!
I haven’t tried any bodyweight classes, but they would be a good option when traveling! I will check out Alex’s.
I like Olivia’s 10 min bodyweight classes — not enough time for her to get too crazy. 😉
I’m sorry the foot is still bothering you. That really sucks.
I didn’t know about the Peloton price hike since I just use the app. Ugh. No doubt the app will be next.
Looks like your ride was gorgeous!
Ugh I’m so sorry your foot is still giving you trouble. And I know how hard it is to resist running. I hope today’s run doesn’t aggravate things.
While I didn’t love hearing about the price increase for all access it is still cheaper than most studios and I love that they continue to keep the level of content so high!
sorry to read that your foot is still bothering you so much. Time to get a second opinion! I am fine w the price increase I could never take more than a class or join a gym for that price. I do think they should raise the rates for those that don’t have the equipment bc they are getting a fantastic deal
I hope you had a great Easter. I love your photo from today – so colorful!
I do know a few people that recently purchased a Peloton bike and they were not happy about the new decrease in big prices AND the raise in the subscription fee. I do feel bad for them because that’s a double whammy.
So sorry that your foot is still bothering you 🙁 I understand how frustrating it can be when you want to run but an injury holds you back.
I am so sorry. Lingering injuries are so incredibly frustrating, especially when things start to feel better and then go to heck again. l hate this for you and I would be grumpy too. Does the bike feel ok? I know cycling and running are NOT the same, but it is something.
I hadn’t heard about the Peloton increase. Do you think it will make any kind of dent in Peloton’s numbers?
