And The Winner Is …

I’m excited to share how I resolved my treadmill dilemma. The winner is …

New Landice Tread

Well, the winner is me, because I have a new, top-of-the-line treadmill. The treadmill I went with is the Landice L7.

And The Winner Is …

I went back to the showroom and tried out the Landice L7 and Matrix T50 again—and again. I ran a few minutes on one, a few on the other, back to the first, once more on the other …. I really couldn’t get past how much better the orthopedic deck and drive train of Landice felt. I also realized limitations of the Matrix interface that would annoy me—like the 5 minute timeout period that would be really frustrating during Peloton bootcamp classes where you may be off the tread for 10-ish minutes for the floor blocks. (The Landice has a 15 minute timeout period.) It didn’t hurt that the Landice would be a few hundred dollars less than the Matrix, but that wasn’t a deciding factor.

New Landice Treadmill

Instead of sending my Lifefitness treadmill to the graveyard, we’re going to give it to my Mom who will use it for walking. I think it’s got a few good years left in it.

Weekly Run Down

Work put a crimp in my workout schedule this week. I had a conference in D.C. with associated meetings that required me to be in the room by 7:30 am on Thursday and Friday. That meant I had to leave my house by 7:00 am, fully showered and dressed in business clothes.

Monday: Core + 4.2 Scooby Miles + 20 min Upper Body Strength

Scooby daffodils

Spring flowers are in bloom already!

Tuesday: Core + Lower Body Strength + 10 min Yoga
I had worked (at home) until 9 pm on Monday, and wanted to get an early start to wrap up that project, so I skipped the 30 min ride I had planned to take after my strength classes. I did tack on a 10 min yoga class to help get some kinks out.

Peloton workouts

Wednesday: 15 Min Bodyweight + 4.75 Scooby Miles + Core
I warmed up with a Chase Tucker bodyweight class, and then took Scooby out. I didn’t want to totally skip my core, so I did a core class as a cool down—which turned out to be my 1300th Peloton strength class!

Thursday: Flash 15 +  30 min Peloton Ride
I really wanted to do the ride I didn’t get to on Tuesday, so I chose a Flash 15 workout for a strength “warm up” and then hopped on my bike. I tacked on my favorite 5 min stretch to cool down and then hopped in the shower. I left the house ~10 minutes later than I intended, but the traffic gods were kind and I still got to my meeting on time.

I also earned my 6K badge—
6,000 minutes of Peloton workouts so far in 2022.

Friday: Core + 10 min Glutes + Legs + 3.98 Scooby Miles
I tried warming up with a 10 min glutes and legs class, going easy on the weights. I had planned a 4 mile loop, and kept running up my hill in an attempt to reach 4 miles, but I had to stop to leave a few yards for a walking cool down before I went directly to the shower!

Saturday:  15 min Lower Body Strength Core + 8.1 Scooby Miles
I debated running to the Tidal Basin to see the cherry blossoms, but the grey weather and thought of crowds deterred me. Scooby and I saw lots of pretty trees closer to home.

Sunday: Core + 30 min Treadmill Run + Stretch
When my treadmill was delivered Saturday afternoon I ran on it for a few minutes to make sure it worked, but Sunday was my first real test run, and it did not disappoint. It felt as smooth as it did in the showroom, and I felt better going faster than I had on my old ‘mill.

First Landice Treadmill run I was happy to see that my iPad fits nicely in front of the console. I used the physical buttons in front to adjust speed and incline. I didn’t use the heart rate sensors, but it came with a Polar chest strap HRM that I did test out.

Now I think it’s time for new running shoes. I’ve been doing my outdoor runs in Brooks Ravenna, which have been discontinued (replaced with The Launch) and indoor runs in Brooks Adrenaline. So now I have a new dilemma—which model shoes to buy? 🙂

Deborah and I will be hosting the April Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend. We’ll open the (link-up) doors Friday, April 1st—no fooling!

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

Have you bought new running gear recently?

You make me laugh! I can just picture you jumping back and forth on each of the treadmills to test them out. Enjoy your new one! Looking forward to seeing you this week

Yay! Sounds like you made a great choice. You’re right- the 5 minute timeout feature would have been really annoying.
Congrats on your Peloton milestones and getting those early morning workouts in. Leaving the house at 7 am dressed in business clothes sounds pretty brutal to me!

  3. So the Ravenna was replaced by the Launch GTS (stability, right?). Have you tried those? From what I read in the test group, they said the shoe felt the same. That’s a good thing your treadmill won’t time out during the workout! Mine seems to time out after a really long time, like 20 or 30 mins. I manage to pause it, hop off and wake my son up for school (and snuggle a bit!) and it’s still on pause when I get back 🙂 Your new treadmill sounds great!

Yes, I think the Launch will feel similar. It’s just confusing when they change things! That’s a long timeout period! My old one was 9 minutes, so I had to set it to 0.5 mph to keep it from timing out during bootcamps, and then deduct that mileage from my total.

  4. Darlene says:

Congrats on your new treadmill. I’m sure you will enjoy it.

I hate when work gets in the way. Unfortunately it happens way too often.

  5. What???? The Ravennas have been discontinued? Those were my go-to’s for shorter runs. How does the Launch compare? Sounds like the Landice will be a solid companion for you 😉 I’ll keep that name in mind for when Milly’s time comes. That’s a great idea to give it to your mom…I wonder if my parent’s would get any use out of mine (if I were to swap Milly out sooner than previously anticipated)?

    • Coco says:

You might still be able to find some Ravenna around — just beware of fake shopping sites from China. I tried on a pair of Launch today and they felt pretty light. I’m not sure why I started wearing them for long runs instead of my Adrenalines, which have more support.

  6. Catrina says:

Yay for the Landice! I’m sure you will be happy with your decision, Coco. I also like that the old one is recycled for your mum.
I’m looking at your Thursday and Friday workouts and thinking that you did all that before being in the office at 7.30am. I’m inspired to get up earlier tomorrow!

  7. Congrats on the new mill! May you have many years enjoyment out of it. My old one is still in our garage (between our cars).

You did great squeezing in your runs/workouts around work — but then you always do!

  8. Wendy says:

Good for you! I didn’t think the time out feature would be an issue, but when I use my TM for interval workouts, it has shut off on me a few times! I’m so impressed with your research, but I was pulling for the Landice!

  9. therightfits says:

Yay for the Landice! I hope you love it as much as I love mine.

I think the Ravennas were replaced by the Launch GTS, which felt a lot like the Ravenna to me. However, after the Ravennas were discontinued, I switched to Saucony Endorphin Speeds and have been happy, BUT my PT does think the lack of stability might have caused some of the flattening/widening of my foot, so maybe I don’t recommend those!

In the room by 7:30 am! That’s tough…I have to leave my house by 7:30 am to be in the parking ramp before 8 am for the “early bird’ price- last week there was one day I pulled in right at 7:59!

  10. kookyrunner says:

Congrats on the new treadmil – she’s so pretty! And it’s so convenient that your iPad fits perfectly so that you can do all of your Peloton classes.

I didn’t know that the Brooks Ravenna sneakers were discontinued! I use those for shorter runs and I still have a brand new pair in the box.

  11. Yay for picking the Landice! That orthopedic deck sounded like a huge plus to me.

Now it sounds like it’s time for some shoe testing 😉

  12. Marcia says:

Congrats on the new addition! I was pulling for the Landice as well so yay! Hope you enjoy many happy miles together! Scooby is so handsome in front of those beautiful cherry blossoms!

  13. Cari says:

Congratulations on 6K and the new toy. The orthopedic belt really sounded like the difference maker with all others being manageable.
Boo on super early conference and yay on new shoes. I’m a Ghosts person so can’t help. But RoadRunner has had some Brooks deals so maybe your models

  14. Congrats on your new treadmill! It looks really pro! Also glad your mum can use the old one for her walking. Also congrats on your 1300th Peloton strength class! That’s amazing.
