Five Fitness Must-Haves For The New Year

Am I the only one who has a hard time coming up with a birthday or Christmas wish list, but as soon as the holiday is past, think of all the things I need wish I had? This year is no exception. While I received a few fitness-related gifts, I’ve already found myself wanting a few fitness must-haves for the new year.

Join me for the new Fit Five Friday Link-Up with DarleneMichelle, Renée, Jenn, and Zenaida.

Five Fitness Must-Haves

1. New Peloton Gear
I resisted Peloton gear for 9 months, but I couldn’t resist these leggings I snagged during their post-holiday sale.

Peloton leggings

They must have an express lane within USPS, because they arrived in 2 days!

2. New Garmin Watchband
I’ve had my Garmin Fenix 5S for over 3 years now. While the band is holding strong, so is the discolored layer of ??? on the side that touches my skin. I resisted spending $50 for a new one, but now that no amount of scrubbing gets it clean it was time.

Ew!

3. New Corepower Yoga subscription
I froze my Cyclebar account for another three months and signed up for the Corepower Yoga digital subscription. It’s nothing like practicing in a hot studio, but the classes seem sequenced more intentionally than the Peloton yoga classes I’ve tried. Plus, now that I’m paying extra, I’m more motivated to actually do it.

4. New strength training shoes
I’ve never had strength-training specific shoes, but with all the strength workouts I’m doing, I decided they were worth the investment. I don’t like wearing my running shoes in my basement gym, and after a few months of working out in my socks, I got worried I was putting myself at risk for  plantar fascitis.

Thanks to Deborah’s recommendation,
I’ve got these Nike Metcon training shoes on the way.

5. New AirPods
I actually bought these on Amazon Prime Day because my AirPods have been getting finicky and I didn’t want to get caught without a working pair. I use them on my runs and for my Peloton workouts, and also for listening to the radio, music and podcasts around the house.

I couldn’t get through the day without them!

  1. I also started to think of things I wanted after the holidays! I work out in my basement in socks or barefoot. I am generally barefoot or in sock (or slippers) most of the day now that I work from home so I think my feet are used to it. But ever since I started working out at home I did it barefoot with the goal of strengthening my feet.

I have been shopping as well! I bought a few tops on sale at Athleta, which I’ve been wearing to the very cold gym. I need a new pair of CrossFit shoes and was looking at those Nikes but after reading Win At All Costs, have had second thoughts, lol. I bought some ankle gaters for the trails and some new running gloves.

  3. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

I typically use my “retired” running shoes for strength work, or just go barefoot. I’m considering just keeping a couple pairs in the basement (where the elliptical and bike are) so they don’t get dirty from the street (since I use those shoes for walking as well). We’re slowing transitioning the basement alcove into our “Sweet Sweat Studio” LOL and setting up a few more fitness things down there.

    • Coco says:

The Peloton instructors suggest wearing thin/flat shoes for strength — maybe they are in cahoots with those manufactures. Going from walking Scooby to my basement, and then planking on that same mat made me decide I need to have different shoes. 😉

  4. I have the same leggings twins! I hope you like the Nike Metcons I find them to be perfect for strength workouts. I did not know you could replace the band on the Fenix good to know!

  5. kookyrunner says:

I love those Peloton leggings! Their gear is so pricy so I have only treated myself once and that’s because I had a referral code voucher to use. I love the new apparel line that just drops but I’m waiting for it to go on sale (fingers crossed)!

  6. Darlene says:

Love those leggings especially that they are purple.

Nope I do not have strength training shoes. Maybe that should be my motivation to start ST.

I haven’t worn my Garmin in a year…the new band (I bought Purple because it came with white) looks brand new.

I got AirPods for Christmas and haven’t even opened the box. I have AfterShoz. I would have given you mine.

    What are my must haves?
I ordered fleece-lined tights and a fleece-lined half zip for cold weather running. A new pair of Topos running shoes and Altra trail shoes. Oh and socks, of course.

I’m sure there will be more.

    Thanks for linking up.

  7. Birchwood Pie says:

Replacing my airpods is the best money I’ve spent recently. They were starting to get flaky, and I was putting a lot of effort into trying to get them to charge and having them fail when I needed them for work calls. They went on sale for $109 and for some reason I went into a snit of “oh I’m not spending $109, these should have lasted longer than 2 years”. And then I finally had enough and took a chance on a refurbished pair for $99 and aah…they are perfect. So satisfying to have something that works!

  8. I was just thinking the same thing. Not just stuff I needed but now I have a list of what I want to buy for others!

  9. Michelle D. says:

Happens to me every holiday too! I love those Peloton tights! I have been resisting buying any of their gear up (a little pricey) but I do love the new line that was just released.

I look forward to hearing if you like the Nikes.

  10. runswithpugs says:

I needed new running shoes, new Balega socks, new Goodr sunglasses, and some new tank tops from Old Navy (I went down a size).

    Love those Peloton pants!

Thanks for joining us this week!

  11. Catrina says:

I know, the Garmin bands get so horrible after a while!
I admit that I bought some fake replacement ones on Alibaba that have different colours and patterns.
Unfortunately, they were such bad quality (surprise!) that I will have to get an official Garmin replacement.
    Have a great weekend!

  12. we don’t do presents at all but I totally know what you mean about not having any kind of wish list until the birthday or holiday has passed!! Ron decided before Christmas that I needed (haha) a new Garmin and bought me the vivoactive 4s (so pretty). And… I decided after Christmas that I indeed needed new Hokas (I bought two pair) and I got the Nike Metcons as well! Directly from Nike and ON SALE!! Woot!!!

Oh yeah I of course I NEEDED two new Inknburn tops… hey I didn’t buy anything from them for a year so I feel like it’s totally justified 😀

  13. As much as I like it, I never buy any of the Peloton great because it is so expensive. But then I realize that I probably spend that much on new Oiselle gear. :-). I also love the AirPods and use them on my runs. Other than new tops, I have not bought anything else. I want some new socks but cannot decide on whether to go Balega or SmartWool.

  14. Cari says:

OK those peloton tights are great. I’d be a sucker for purple too
After trying to use AfterShokz on work calls while in Florida I might finally unbox my airpods. Maybe
