I had a wonderful vacation last week, but towards the end I was really missing some of the comforts of home:
- My electric toothbrush.
- My shower with a strong, steady stream of hot water.
- My pot of Starbucks® coffee.
On the other hand, there were things I didn’t really miss:
- The news. Even though I usually start and end my day with the local news, commute with NPR and skim through most of The Washington Post over the course of a day, I enjoyed the reduced stress level that comes from being out of the loop.
- My wardrobe. I didn’t mind being forced to dress from the very limited selection of clothes that I packed. I brought a few favorite items and they mixed and matched well.
- Work. While I did monitor emails, I mostly delegated or scheduled things for later. I did not get sucked into to any strategic decision making. (Good thing, since the time difference meant that I’d usually had at least one glass of wine before anything came up!)

I think I'm pretty opposite from you, I'd miss my entire wardrobe, in fact, I usually just pack it ALL. It's silly.
LOL on the electric toothbrush. I hear you on the shower water pressure though!
My email is one of the things I miss (when I don't have it) but I don't miss at the same time. It's nice to be disconnected for a while.
And they do have Starbucks in Germany (they actually opened several around us in the course of the 2 years we lived in Berlin!)… I personally dislike Starbucks, too "corporate" and not "conversation friendly" (perhaps I'm biased because I'm used to Starbucks around universities, where people go to study as opposed to going, say, to the actual library!!!)… I miss the simple neighborhood cafes from Berlin…
