Celebrating At The July Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, you might ask what I’m celebrating? Personally, I’m celebrating making it to the finish line of a grueling month at work. I had so many “end of June” deadlines, but have just about managed to cross them off my to-do list one by one. (I’ll cross the last few off tomorrow). I’m also still celebrating July 4th. 🇺🇸 Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty to fret over, but there’s also plenty to appreciate from sea to shining sea. 🏖️ 🏜️⛰️🗽🏝️

I swear I wrote this ahead of time, but I laughed when I saw
the July 4th Google doodle with the same theme.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you my Aerogarden petunias are a celebration all their own and continue to bring me joy with their untamed beauty.

It’s hard to do them justice with a photo—they are a happy riot of purple and magenta on my kitchen counter!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you about the cool sculptures along Park Avenue near my hotel in NYC. These are two of the series of Travelers.

You can read more about them and see the others here.

If we were having coffee, I also would tell you about the hotel I stayed at. I was ready for a change after my last stay at my usual place, and tried The Kitano just across the street. It caters to Japanese guests, down to the bathroom fixtures.

It also has a rooftop bar with lovely skyline views.

You probably could see the Empire State Building from the other side, but a private party had reserved that space.

And you know if we were having coffee, I would show you my latest puzzle.

It’s hard to read, but it’s a 1921 Vogue cover

  1. Glad you made it through your stressful month of work. Hope this month is better and that you have some time for fun this month. I do not do as well with my plants and flowers even in the aerogarden. I am now using the light to tend to my orchid. A green thumb I am not.

  2. Farrah says:

The petunias are gorgeous — I love the bright colors! <3

I've used a bidet before + installed one in the apartment I was living in before, but have been super lazy/haven't gotten around to putting it into the house yet. Sometime before the end of this year though, it's part of the plan…

  3. Michelle says:

Yay for getting to the end of your crazy work month! I hope you are getting some much needed downtime now.

Love that splash of color from those petunias! Maybe now that I have the space I should give an Aerogarden a try.

I always like to see your latest puzzle – this is a good one!

  4. Marcia says:

I’ll bet it feels so great to have all the work completed in June! I’d never think to grow petunias indoors but it looks like they are very happy. Love the puzzle!

  5. Darlene S. Cardillo says:

Glad you got through the month. My July is crazy busy.

Those statues were on my list but I’m rarely in that area.

    Love those petunias.

Enjoy this month. Hope it’s less stressful

  6. Jenny says:

Yes, you did mention you were working some crazy hours! I hope you get some downtime in July.
No, I’ve never used a bidet- but I know people who have them. I had no idea there are so many settings.
    I love the puzzle!

  7. Jenn says:

I have never used a bidet. I wouldn’t know where to start, but I like the idea of it, I think.

Our 4th was a mess. It’s not my favorite holiday to begin with, but I ended up fielding a proverbial fire with one of my organizations, hustling up to spend time with my parents in the rehab facility, picking up the kids during a horrifying rainstorm, and slapping together a pasta salad and chicken sliders in the most red, white and blue manner I could manage. My Pinterest loving soul cried, but everyone promised they loved it.

You have to see my new puzzle. It’s 1500 pieces and it’s a gradiated rainbow of paint blobs.

    • Coco says:

Sorry your 4th was so hectic, but it sounds like you pulled off a great day. We went out for pizza because our favorite hot dog placed shut down.

  8. Your petunias are so beautiful! That wound easily be a welcome sight every morning (and throughout the day if you’re home). I love all the fun puzzles you do! There’s a brewery here that hosts puzzle nights. There are teams of four people, and every team gets an identical puzzle to do. I’ve never taken part, but it’s on my “local” bucket list.

  9. Catrina says:

YAY for meeting the deadlines! Did you manage to take today off as well?

About the Japanese bidet-thing: did you try it?
I wonder how it works. I do hope they use wipes as well and not only water!

  10. Renée says:

glad you made it through a rough month!

    Those petunias are amazing wow!

Haha I would love that hotel! And what a view too!

I have used a bidet :). They are very often found in Spain and Italy 🙂 you know I had to try it at some point!

  11. Congrats on meeting your deadlines! Hopefully, you can relax and enjoy July. Those flowers are gorgeous – I LOVE the color. I have never used a bidet and now sure I want to. 🙂
