It Is What It Is

After last week’s trip to Chicago, this week wasn’t much to write home about. My hamstring is nagging a bit, but not too much—even on days I don’t take meloxicam. 😉 I’m am not ready to explore more aggressive treatment, so for now, it is what it is.

Scooby is sympathetic to my hamstring woes.

It Is What It Is

So, what is going on with my hamstring? Sometimes it feels tight. Sometimes it hurts. Some times it’s 100% fine. It doesn’t bother me much—or all the time—while I’m running, but I do feel it if I push my pace too much. My next treatment option is PRP, but I’ve read studies that it can be only marginally better than PT. So, I am going to keep my mileage low and get back to all those PT exercises and see what progress I can make on my own.

Weekly Wrap

Sunday: Core + Upper Body + 45 min Ride
I split my workout, doing an upper body class before church, and then a Peloton ride after church, with a core class each time as a warm up. I loved the playlist from Hannah’s ride.

Monday: Lower Body + 3.25 tread miles
As I mentioned in my runfessions, I found a few “cardio” classes I could take as pre-run warm-ups. This one with Adrian was really good. I modified some of the high-impact moves but actually love doing touch down squats.

Tuesday: Upper Body + 35 min Peloton Ride
For the last full week of the Ascend April challenge, we are doing 30 min climb rides. Denis’s class wasn’t too hard as it was broken into a series of 3 minute climbs. I thought Callie’s class upper body class was really good too.

Wednesday: 4.5 Scooby Miles
I wore my hat because it was supposed to rain, but it never did. At least the hat helped keep some of the sweat out of my eyes—it was humid!

Thursday: Lower Body + 35 min Peloton Ride
CDE’s 30 min climb was a 30 minute climb—well, maybe a 24 minute climb with the warm-up and cool-down. No matter how you count it, it was tough!.

Friday: Core + 3.25 Scooby Miles
This was the day Scooby looked forlorn after our run. I’m not sure why, as nothing stressful happened!

Saturday: 3.7 Scooby Miles
Took Scooby out for a short run before getting back to the house to join Carianne for coffee. She’s here for the Parkway Classic I thought we could run together before I knew my hamstring was torn.

A happier running buddy

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up. And thanks to all of you for putting up with my hamstring saga!

I’m so sorry that your hamstring is still nagging you. I’t’s been a long haul, hasn’t it?

It’s great that you got to see Cari. Back in November when she told me about coming down for the Parkway Classic, for a fleeting moment I considered registering and training for it (it’s one of my favorite races0. Good thing I didn’t because I can’t run at all right now and haven’t since late January.

Well… I think if you keep doing what you’re doing- don’t go too crazy with the runs, continue with the PT exercises- your hamstring will slowly and gradually settle down on its own. Of course that’s not medical advice- I don’t want to steer you wrong! But that’s what I would do in your situation. Yes, Scooby did look very sad in the first photo! He should be happy- he (and you) got in some nice runs this week.

  3. The hammies seem to have a mind of their own. I’ve been having what I think is tendonitis in recent weeks. Nothing hurts, at all, when I’m walking, running or biking. But if I roll over a certain way, the tendon (?) in the glute area screams at me. I’m considering revisiting PT for awhile…but she’ll probably have me doing glute work, which I can do on my own if I can muster the discipline.

Sorry to hear the hamstring is still nagging you. But glad you have Scooby to keep you company and that it isn’t bothering you too bad!

  5. I have not tried the cardio classes as I thought they were dance like. Maybe I will! Seems like your hamstring is not deterring you from running a number of times per week so that’s a win. Hope it continues to improve. Have fun with Cari!

  6. Darlene S. Cardillo says:

So sorry that your hamstring continues to bother you.

Nice that you could catch up with Cari. I always try to do the same when I’m in NYC.

  7. Catrina says:

That first photo with you in purple and Scooby with the purple flowers around his head is perfect!
Somebody has to invent an app with PT challenges to motivate patients to do their exercises. They are so boring!

  8. Susanne says:

I think it sounds like have a good solid plan about that hamstring. I hope it will settle down.
You’re the second one from the link-up this week to meet up with Cari. How nice!

  9. Jenn says:

I know you had fun with Cari!

And poor Scooby! He’s such a sweet guy!

I hate that this hamstring issue is still going on. How frustrating and hard 🙁

I wish I had some advice to help make it better, but you’re doing all the right things.

  10. I’m so sorry to hear about the hamstring issues still plaguing you. I have a feeling I’m joining the club too after my race on Sunday. I’m really not feeling good at all.

  11. Jessie says:

Ugh, sorry the hamstring is still a bother. I haven’t done PRP before- do you need to take time off afterwards? It seems like PT and easy runs for now is a good plan. I’m sure Scooby is happy to be out there no matter what!
