Looking Forward

I am dragging myself out of my May malaise and looking forward to June, and I do have things to look forward to—a quick trip to Boston for work, my son’s move to a new home, and hopefully much, much more.

Looking Forward

The first thing I’m looking forward to is happening today—the Eastern Shore Farm to Fork Fondo! This week I made a last-minute decision to risk the iffy weather forecast and brave the “beach traffic” to do a relatively local Farm to Fork Fondo ride. Never mind that I’ve only ridden outdoors a few time this year and maxed out at 30 miles, we signed up for the 60 mile Gran Fondo distance. No whoopie pies on this one, but they are promising fresh strawberries and ice cream.

My in-laws used to live at the end of the Chester river near Millington,
but we only went to Chestertown a few times.

I’m also looking forward to new Peloton strength workout programs. Peloton is doing a major rebranding and promoting all the “other” classes they offer—no Peloton bike (or tread) required. Along with that, they are rolling out several different types of strength programs. I’m going to start with Pump Up The Volume (which has been available to Peloton Guide users). It’s a 4 week program that is supposed to build progressively. The 3 day/week schedule of 20 min classes should fit will with everything else I like to do.

Peloton also announced new tiering for the app, with a new free level (with 50 classes across different modalities), a mid-price level, and a premium level. The monthly cost for the premium level (with all the classes app users have access to now, plus rowing classes) will go from $12.99/month to $24/month, or $120/year. The mid-price level will have all the non-bike/tread/row classes, including yoga, strength, stretching, and “outdoor” classes (which includes walks and runs)—basically all the classes I got hooked on in the first place.

I know Judy is upset about the changes, but I’m not. I think the current app pricing is a bargain for the variety, quantity and quality of classes—and the great playlists. Peloton has added a lot of features and expanded class offerings since I joined in March 2020, and even the higher monthly price  is the same or less than one studio class in the D.C. area. Not to mention, these changes don’t take effect until December—what other company gives you more than 5 months notice of a price increase?

Weekly Wrap

Before I jump to this week’s workouts, I have to share the great race photo I got from Lawyers Have Heart.

Props to the photographer who staked out this view!

Sunday: 15 min Core + LB Strength + 30 min Gospel Ride
Speaking of LHH, Sunday was post-race day. I took a few lower body classes to get the kinks out, and hopped on Cliff’s latest English Gospel ride.

Monday: 10 min Core + 4.1 Scooby Miles
By Monday I was ready for a run—especially knowing I’d be going to yoga on Tuesday.

I even wore an old LHH t-shirt.

Tuesday: Core Power Yoga

Wednesday: 5 min Core + 30 min FB Strength + 40 min Peloton Ride
It was an office gym day, so I used the Peloton bike there and did my favorite Lanebreak Ride—based on the playlist—as a cooldown. I had the gym all to myself the whole time.

Thursday: 10 min Core + 4.5 Scooby Miles
This was an exciting run that started with a fox sighting at the end of our street! Even though Scooby didn’t chase after the fox, I guess seeing the fox filled him with adrenaline he had to burn off by sprinting down the sidewalk.

Friday: 15 min Core + 20 min Peloton Ride + 30 min FB Strength
I took Jess Sims’ 30 min FB strength class live in case she would shout-out my 2050th strength class—and she did!—but that was at 12:30 pm. For my morning workout I did a core class and 20 min ride, choosing an older class of Emma’s with a fun funk playlist. Who can resist Carwash!

Whoops! I need to delete that second 20 min ride!

Saturday: 10 min Core + 6.0 Scooby Miles
The weather was amazing for this run—upper 50s probably! I ran into a friend as I was looping through the neighborhood school on my way back. Chatting for 15 minutes was nice, but my legs felt very creaky when I had to run the last 1/2 mile home.

A huge thank you to Deborah and Kim for hosting the Weekly Run Down link up.

What are you looking forward to?

I think the Peloton fees are a bargain. I won’t tell you what I pay for CrossFit–but yes, it is live. Still, you’re getting a lot for the $$.

Enjoy your ride today. I’m looking forward to hearing all about it!

  2. I agree the Peloton prices are a bargain for all that you get and have access to! I am really excited about some of the new programs too and can’t wait to try them. Hope you have fun today

  3. Marcia says:

How fun to see a fox! They are pretty. Glad Scooby did not chase it though. Nice week of workouts for you!
I’m looking forward to some epic bucket list travels this summer!

  4. Jenny says:

Ooh! I hope your ride is going well. I can’t wait to hear all about it. And yes- that is an AWESOME race photo.
I don’t think the Peloton price is too unreasonable (although my YouFit membership is only $15 a month… just saying.) But, I think it’s hard to see the price of anything double. I did see that they have a free level now! Overall it seems like a pretty good deal.

  5. I am looking forward to more nice weather. Today may be quite hot, but tomorrow (when we’ll be at my mom’s with Bandit) should be a tad cooler and that is a good thing.

I use Peloton for very different reasons, and I’m not saying it isn’t a good price. But for me it’s not a daily thing like you, and doubling a price — well, it’s not my fault that they had the price so low. Are there lots of other memberships that are much more expensive? Obviously. I just know I’m no longer going to get a big enough ROI (for me) so I’ll continue looking for alternatives for indoor cycling and runs.

I hope you have a lot of fun today! Too bad about there’s no Whoopie Pies. 🙁

Of course, everyone has to decide if a program is worth it to them, and I am a Pelo-addict. I heard the app used to be $19.99/month pre-pandemic, then they offered it free for 90 days, and then at $12.99, and then spared app users when they raised the All-Access fee last year, so I think it’s been building for a while.

  6. I hope your ride went well! I just got back from my 25-mile ride, and am chilling (literally) and catching up on the WRD posts. Feels so good to get outside on the bike!

  7. Jessie says:

I hope the ride was a blast!

Thanks for breaking down the Peloton changes. I currently have the $12.99 option but I wonder if I should switch to the free so they don’t automatically move me to the $24.99…I don’t use run/cycle/row.

    • Coco says:

I don’t think they would automatically bump up your Peloton plan — I’d stay with the level you’re at since it’s what you need. I think the free plan might seem skimpy once they spread out the 50 classes across strength, yoga, stretching, outdoors, etc.

I know we discusses this already but I totally agree with you about the price increase. I mean honestly, where can you go to get unlimited classes with a ton of variety for $25/month? I also saw the “Pump it Up” collection and I think I will check that out in July – I’m doing an OTF challenge in June so I don’t want to combine the two – lol.

I hope you had a great ride this weekend!

  9. Darlene S Cardillo says:

Oh now I want a whoopie pie.
I love that pic of you running near the Washington monument.
I am excited about the free Peloton classes.

I think it’s a fair price but I just didn’t use it enough. I’m leaning toward joining the gym

  10. Jenn says:

So you and Jenny both saw a fox this week! Fun!

That race photo of you is gorgeous! I love it!

This may be weird, but I love the Farm to Fork Fondo time! Of all my blogging friends’ adventures, this may be my favorite.

  11. Renée says:

how fun that you saw a fox! and I’m glad it excited Scooby but he didn’t try to harm the little bugger. Loving the race photo of you as well – that one is framable!! I’m glad you are seeing some benefit to the new pricing from Peloton. I pay EUR 12,99 I think for unlimited Les Mills On Demand and to be honest hardly use it (but when I do I’m really glad I have it). I just don’t see myself ever being a Peloton user. I know it’s very popular in the US, but it’s not a thing here in NL except for expats using the service (American expats I might add). Anyway, whatever it takes and whatever makes you happy I always say!!
