Dashing To The December Ultimate Coffee Date
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that as much as December is always crazy, this year is even crazier because of our !#&@* firm retreat. It was supposed to be in October, but then Hurricane Ian threatened Orlando, so it was canceled. We thought it would be rescheduled for early 2023, but the hotel must have had a cancellation for this December, because here we are.
Well, actually, this is where I am.
I am glad to be seeing my colleagues again, and I know it’s important for us to get together for the first time since 2019, but it’s a really hard time of year to spend so many days out of the office and away from home.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you I had to work really hard to finish my latest puzzle so we could put up our Christmas tree. My puzzle table is in the same corner of our family room where the tree goes, and I wasn’t about to give up on it before I had put every last darn piece of that big orange tree into place. 😉
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that my son has become a real coffee snob—you won’t catch him at Starbucks. 😉 Last year his big Christmas gift was one of those fancy at home espresso machines. Now he wants a fancy coffee grinder for an even more perfect cup. I know he wouldn’t be satisfied with a $60 CuisineArt grinder, but I literally laughed out loud when I saw how much you could spend on a grinder.
You can read more about fancy coffee grinders in this article.
Speaking of shopping, if we were having coffee I would tell you I am contemplating trying another model of running shoes. I know I can’t blame all my woes on my Adrenalines, but one reason for sticking with the same shoe is being injury free. Since that has not been my experience, maybe I should try something new. Now I just have to make time to visit my local running store ….
Does anyone in your family have an expensive hobby?
If you wear Adrenalines is there another model that works for you too?
If you’d ask my husband, he’d tell you all my hobbies are expensive. He thought it was great when I took up running because it would be cheap. Insert evil laugh. His hobbies aren’t so cheap either.
I’m sorry that the retreat comes at such a bad time of year.
Good luck on finding the next right shoes! Our feet do change over time, so sometimes we have to change up our shoes, too. Sucks.
I guess it all depends on what you mean by expensive, lol. Although that is a fancy coffee grinder compared to the one I’m sharing on my post!
Try to enjoy your time in Florida! It sure beats the cold weather we are having here!
We have people here from Milwaukee who are glad to get south for a few days!
I wonder how much better coffee can taste when its ground with a $$$ grinder?? I wouldn’t be thrilled about a retreat at the busiest time of year either but try to enjoy it. That puzzle is something else!
How is a coffee grinder that much?!
It does seem like a crazy time of year to have jammed in a work retreat. How long will you be there?
I do run in Adrenalines and also rotate Brooks’ Glycerin GTS and Ghost. I’m curious to hear what shoe you pick.
Thanks for the suggestions — I’ll try those on.
I, too, would be freaking out about having to go on a business trip this time of year. Like others have comments, try to make the most of it and enjoy the warmer weather!
I learned all about burr grinders when my husband bought one a couple of years ago, but luckily he got one that was much less expensive than the one your son wants.
Yes, my husband and I have an expensive hobby, it’s called cycling! 😉 We each have a road and a gravel bike, and all are carbon. I’m an electronic shifter snob and Di2’s adds significantly to the cost.
So I have a PT that specializes in runners who will meet you at the store and help you pick the right shoes as she analyzes your run form. Let me know if you want her contact. It’s well worth it in my opinion. Wow, this is a fancy coffee grinder
Our youngest did a summer internship (2021) at a French bistro/coffeehouse place, and fine tuned her barista knowledge & skills. She bought herself an espresso machine & loves sharing her expertise with us. Now she wants a “better” machine (as a suggestion for Christmas), LOL. Yeah, this is a busy time of year for business trips…but my company is having a grand meeting next week. All our sales reps & most of the employees will be here from the Chicago, Omaha & Denver offices.
Oh, I hope the big meeting goes well!
I would try a new shoe. I tried Topos because of the wide toe box. They work fir now.
Our kids do not need a thing. Nor do we do we will be going out to dinner instead.
Love the puzzle.
Enjoy your work retreat!
Wow, that’s a a super fancy grinder! But La Marzocco is quite a premium brand I think, I looked at their espresso machines once. I use a Gaggia machine and a cheapish grinder and I’m super happy with that!
Regarding expensive hobbies… oh yes. Photography, concertinas and guitars for me… I just (temporarily) stopped thinking about getting another guitar. Good for our bank account (for now, lol).
Just to be clear, he is NOT getting that grinder from me! 😉
I am here from Jenny’s blog – and laughing. My husband sounds like your son! He has a burr grinder for his fancy coffee machine. (A Baratza Encore, if you are curious.)
That puzzle is amazing! It looks SO challenging. Congrats on finishing it!
Hah! I was looking at Baratzas. Not quite as $$$.
Thanks for stopping by!
So my son has taken an interest in clothes (finally!!). He’s very interested in the finer things, such as Patagonia and prAna pants. But luckily he has been buying it all on his own and it’s been from Ebay and second hand (so really, saving money and saving the environment with recycling, right?). I could totally see him getting into something like that coffee maker. So fancy! 🙂
Whew! Great job on that puzzle! I feel like I would’ve had a hard time with it!
I also did nottttt know it was possible to spend $1000 on a coffee grinder; what does it do–add gold flakes to each cup of coffee!?!?!
It should at that price, right? I mean, how much better can it make coffee taste?
Travel is our expensive hobby. Also running. But you know that lol.
Before my ankle, I could wear Adrenalines, Ravenna (which are now the Launch GTS), Bedlams (which are the Levitate GTS), Saucony Guides, and the men’s Asics GT2000. There was also an Adidas that I liked, but they are always changing names and styles so I don’t know if those shoes exist.
That is one fancy coffee grinder! I feel like I am missing out. I buy pods for my Keurig and ground coffee for the regular coffee maker. I do like the one Wendy mentioned in her post. Years ago I wore Adrenalines but stopped because they were hurting my feet. I then switched to Ghost and Launch. Try those!
I’m such a coffee philastine I won’t even get a fancy keurig, let alone a $1K grinder. But I guess we all have our things. I asked for socks again for christmas. I don’t need anything, really.
