2021 Year-End Runfessions

Well, we made it to the last Friday of 2021. It was a rougher year than I hoped it would be, but a lot of that was self-inflicted. How so, you ask? I will explain in my 2021 year-end runfessions, so join me at Marcia’s runfessional so we can cleanse our souls soles before we head into a shiny new year—2022!

2021 Year-End Runfessions

If you’ve followed my posts at all this year, you know 2021 was the year of the Achilles. I tend to blame all the treadmill running I did after I fractured my rib, but I runfess looking back over old posts I discovered reports of some nagging back in December 2020.

While I appreciated my ability to seek PT for my achilles without having to see a specialist first, in retrospect I runfess it may not have been the best course of treatment. I know “failed” PT was one reason the podiatrist I eventually saw thought I was a good candidate for shockwave therapy, but if I had seen him sooner I might have been on the mend earlier.

I runfess I need to spend more time in my stretching boot ….

If Christmas gifts reflect my hobbies, I runfess I got lots of new cycling gear, but nothing for running. The reality is that my husband is into biking and likes shopping for that kind of stuff.

I runfess I finally opened my Richmond Half package—when they sent me another one that felt like it had a medal in it.

I runfess I love the bold design so much I definitely will wear it!

I also have one Pelofession to share. When I walked into the gym at the hotel I stayed at in Chicago, I walked right past a row of Peloton bikes. I had my strength + tread workout planned, and didn’t want to mess around with figuring out how to log in.

Peloton Bikes Westin Chicago Maybe next time?

Deborah and I will be hosting the first Ultimate Coffee Date of 2022 next weekend. We’ll open the (link-up) doors Friday, January 7th!

I love that Richmond marathon shirt too! I always appreciate when races put some thought into the shirt design. Happy New Year Coco!

  2. deborahbrooks14 says:

That is a nice Richmond shirt! I still have never run that race but we can together one year. The dates never seem to work for me. That is a hotel gym that would make me very happy!

  3. I love the Richmond shirt design! That race is still on my “want to run” list – maybe we should try to meet up there? (at some point we really need a meet-up!)

    Happy New Year Coco!

  4. Darlene says:

It’s always hard to know when the injury is serious enough to see a dr or pt and rehab it yourself. I hope it behaves in 2022.

    That’s a great shirt…love the colors.

What Michelle says I’d love to meet-up. I’ve never done a DC race.

The first time I used a peleton bike was in a hotel during a work trip.

Happy New Year. Hope it’s a healthy one.

  5. Marcia says:

That is a very fun race shirt and medal! There were Peloton bikes in my daughter’s apartment gym. I runfess I bypassed them as well. Not even sure why. Love the new bike kit! Happy New Year Coco!

  6. Since I don’t have a Peloton bike, it would’ve been fun to try one! But it’s nice to have a fitness hobby you share with your hubby. Hiking is the closest I get to that, but there’s usually some cajoling involved.

I never did see anyone about my Achilles . . . not sure it’s 100% gone, but mostly anyway. I only seek out PT help when I absolutely must! And that was before COVID.

  7. Catrina says:

That’s funny how your husband gave you bike-related gifts! I guess he remembers your joint cycling activities better than your solo runs (well, not quite solo if you count Scooby).
My Achilles “lesson learned” is very similar to yours – I should have sought out professional help much, much sooner. It took me 6 months until I finally went to see a specialist!

  8. Catrina says:

Oh gosh, now my comment disappeared… let me try again!

It’s so hard to know what to do. As for my gifts, I think my husband thinks he’s more qualified to pick out cycling gifts than running gifts. And, honestly, there’s not much I need!

  9. jenny says:

Well, hindsight is 20/20. I’m also kicking myself for not starting the shockwave treatments until November. But… here we are! Onward!
I also love that t-shirt. I’m still laughing about that awful one you got a couple months ago… this one is pretty much the polar opposite.
    Have a Happy New Year!

  10. That shirt is HOT!! Awesome design! Funny story about your biking gifts…we brought our son’s mountain bike and plan to leave it here as an “amenity” (we rent our villa out when we’re not here…which will be usually be the remaining 11 months, LOL). I didn’t think to bring my helmet, but he said that’s a good excuse to get a new one (secretly, I’d rather get another pair if running shoes).

  11. MCM Mama says:

Hope the achilles situation is getting better! And I really need to run Richmond again soon. Maybe I can manage it this year… Thanks for the heads up about coffee talk – I totally thought it was this weekend. Happy new year!

  12. Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says:

It’s so funny – I actually purchased a bike this year but I’ve only ridden it once and haven’t purchased any good gear for it.

I hope your Achilles is doing better!

  13. runswithpugs says:

Oh, I love that Richmond shirt! What a great design.

I also love that you and your husband have an activity you love to do together. That makes things so nice.

  14. The Richmond short is great! Cute design and bold color. How fun that your got cycling gear. I know how much you enjoy it. Here’s to a healthy 2022!

  15. Denise says:

I love that shirt! Wishing you a much better New Year!
