Welcome to the December 2021 Ultimate Coffee Date. It’s too soon to be dashing through the snow around here, but I have started dashing through my holiday to-do lists, and I am trying to dash through my year-end work projects. I’m so glad to have this time to enjoy a cup of coffee with my co-host Deborah and the rest of you!

Dashing To The December Coffee Date
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that while I did #RespectTheBird this year, I’m also farther ahead on my holiday shopping than I’ve ever been. That’s partly because my family members shared their wish lists early, and partly because the threat of “supply chain” issues and “shipping delays” has made me nervous about my usual last-minute approach.
I even got our tree up before December—but it was the first Sunday of Advent
If we were having coffee, I would tell you about the puzzle I completed in November. It was a fun New Yorker cover with a Christmas theme. I was going to save it for December, but then remembered that my puzzle table would be displaced by our Christmas tree.
I had such a hard time figuring out the edge pieces, I broke puzzle protocol and started working on the rest of the puzzle I was about 1/5 done when I figured out I had extra edge pieces! Those 5 pieces on the side are exactly the same as the 5 pieces next to them. I hope quality control caught the puzzle they belonged to before it got shipped!
If we were having coffee, I would give you one more update on the hot peppers I accidentally planted in my AeroGarden.
Yep, they are ready for harvesting—and topping on nachos!
If we were having coffee, I would ask if you have anything fun on your holiday wish list, and if you will be traveling or staying home. I’m so excited that my daughter will be coming—it softens the blow of my son going off to Germany for his honeymoon—hopefully Omicron won’t force another change of plans.
Have you ever gotten a puzzle with extra pieces?
How wonderful that your daughter is coming home for Christmas! I know you’ll miss your son and daughter-in-law, though. Your tree looks beautiful!
Thanks for the linkup and have a great weekend!
We put our tree up over the weekend too–now to finish with the rest of the decorations. I’ve started shopping, too. We’re feeling the supply chain issues at work, which is more concerning than holiday shopping!
That[s so awesome your daughter will be home for Christmas! I’m a little further along with holiday shopping as well!
Supply chain issues have me worried too, but I’m still behind in my shopping 🙁
That’s so great that your daughter is coming home for Christmas! I hope you son’s honeymoon trip goes off without a hitch.
I’m behind on my decorating but did write out my cards. No gifts this year except for a grab bag. We decided just to spend time together. We don’t need anything.
Enjoy your daughters visit.
I might get some cards out this weekend, but I am hoping next weekend will be OK!
Fingers crossed for your son & his wife. My brother & SIL just canceled a trip because it didn’t feel right to her.
Extra puzzle pieces? That’s just cruel! Great job getting it done anyway.
The travel per se is a risk, but they are staying with family friends so feel safer about that.
Your puzzle reminds me of a trend several years ago (or maybe it’s still happening?). I can’t remember what they were called, but they were jigsaw puzzles that purposely came with extra pieces, and they may have had “unfinished” borders? They were meant to be really challenging and confusing to “piece together.” I never had one such puzzle to do, but I heard a lot about them.
That just sounds mean!
My Aerogarden is a total bust. I even bought new seed pods and started over still the only thing that made it was basil. However, having my Orchid plants next to it revitalized them and they have bloomed again. Bright side! Enjoy having your daughter home for Christmas!
That’s so crazy! Have you contacted them?
Omg- I REALLY hope no one got a puzzle with five pieces missing!
Despite my nagging, my kids haven’t told me much about what they want for Christmas. I have to remind myself it’s only December 3rd, but all the talk about the supply chain issues is making me nervous.
We’ll be staying home for Christmas as we always do. Of course my son will be home so that makes it extra special. I know that day will come where one of the kids can’t be here, but luckily we’re not there yet!
That New Yorker puzzle looks really cool! That’s so weird about the extra puzzle pieces!
I don’t have much of a wish list this year but I’ll probably treat myself to a new pair of sneakers, lol.
Can’t go wrong with new running shoes!
That’s so exciting that your son is going to spend is honeymoon in Germany! Which city or area will he be visiting?
After all flights were cancelled out of South Africa we buried our hopes of visiting family in Switzerland. However, yesterday the Swiss government lifted the travel ban and even the quarantine requirement. So we can go ahead with our travel plans. I’m so happy!
I have 2 puzzles to do but with the kitten that may be a challenge My daughter got me a puzzle mat so I might give it a try.
We haven’t gotten a tree yet. This may be the year we get an artificial one. I expect the price of real trees to be crazy this year.
I haven’t worked on a puzzle in years. I do have one at home that someone gave me. Those extra pieces would have confused me too. I will be home for the holidays and am excited about it. Traveling during this time stresses me out. But one day I hope to go to Mexico for Christmas.
I forced my family to share there wish lists early this year, so I’m hoping to get most (if not all) of it done this week! If we were having coffee, I’d also tell you 1) I love that puzzle! and 2) I always break puzzle protocol… I love starting on different elements of it and do the edge as I go a long. But it’s something that irritates the rest of my household, so they quickly do the edge for me!
I hope you have a wonderful holiday! I have done some shopping, but I feel like I haven’t done enough! It’s been really hard to figure out what to get people this year!
I never know what to get anyone anymore so I may just ended up treating people to dinner. I’m glad your daughter’s coming back for Christmas!
I’ll be sticking around but doing staycations for the holidays this year! Hoping to check out a bunch of state parks, get caught up on blog posts + spend time with family.
