It’s the last Friday of the month and nearly All Hallows Eve–the perfect time to gather at Marcia’s runfessional and cleanse our souls soles before we head into November—what?! With my first race of 2021 next weekend, I’ve got some racy October runfessions.
Also join me in the Fit Five Friday Link-Up with Darlene, Michelle, Renée, Jenn, and Zenaida.
Deborah and I will be hosting the November Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend. We’ll open the (link-up) doors Friday November 5th, and keep the coffee brewing.
Racy October Runfessions
About that first race, I runfess that even though I signed up on January 1st, I feel like it’s snuck up on me. I’ve been gradually increasing my mileage since I completed shockwave therapy for my Achilles, but I’m not ready for a 10 mile race. There is a 5K option, but I runfess I’m not excited about dealing with all the logistics for 1/2 hour of running. I’ll try one more long run this weekend and see if my Achilles feels like it would hold up to a 10 mile long run….
I’ve heard the shirt design is pretty awful ….
On the other hand, I runfess I have no second thoughts about DNS-ing my second race of 2021–the Richmond Half. I only signed up as a second deferral of my 2019 registration that I DNS-ed due to my recent DVT and Grave’s disease diagnosis. If 2021 had gone differently, I might be saying “third time’s the charm” but instead I’m thinking “this race was never meant to be.”
I runfess I haven’t even opened the registration package
I paid extra to have mailed to me.
At the August runfessional, I bikefessed that I had signed up for the Shenandoah Farm to Fork Fondo Weekend Adventure that took place last weekend. I’ll share more details in my Weekly Wrap, but for now I’ll say that warm-from-the-oven cider donuts could give the whoopie pies of the Pennsylvania Dutch ride a run for their money.
Not shown: the fresh apple cider I used to wash it down 😉
Have you ever used a race for a training run?
It’s been a tough year for so many of us! The Ice Age Trail race deferred three times, then I had to DNS. UGH My other fall half, I was able to defer to next year.
Good luck this weekend! Fingers crossed your achilles holds up.
Thanks. I think it will make it with the help of KT tape.
10 miles seems like a lot…says the girl who only rune a few miles here and there these days! Haha! Good luck with whatever you decide. I’d be all over a cider donut as well!
I’ve ramped up to 6, 7, and now 8. 10 will be a stretch, but … we’ll see what the weather is like. 😉
I agree. I prefer the longer distance for a race. But if your Achilles is not ready then…
Hope it is.
Yum. You know how I feel about desserts.
yes, I used Cherry Blossom as a training run for my Corning half and it was perfect timing. Gave me a chance to test out some things and get ready for racing again. Looking forward to reading about your cycling adventures
It was another fun one. We really should do one together next year.
Ooh! I can’t wait to hear about the bike ride/doughnut adventure. I agree that the Richmond half may be a cursed race for you. But I hope you’re able to do your 10 mile race. Good luck on your long run this weekend!
Thanks. Let’s both break our 2021 running curses!
I’m not a huge donut fan but I always make an exception for the apple cider donuts because they are just so good!
They truly are my favorite!
Ha, Coco, why do you always get such great treats on those rides?! Without ever having eaten an apple cider doughnut in my life, I know I would love it!
All the best with your first race of 2021! I hope your test run this weekend will give you the thumbs up for the 10 miles.
Well, when you sign up for a Farm to Fork Fondo, the treats are 1/2 the point! Cider donuts are cake donuts made with apple cider and cinnamon, with a generous cinnamon sugar coating. 😀
Oh I do love a good cider donut! Looking forward to reading about your biking adventures.
It’s a bummer about the way things played out with Richmond. I hear such good things about that race and want to run it at some point. Maybe we need to plan a meet up…4th times the charm? 😉
Good luck with your test run this weekend!
I’d be willing to give it another try ….
Well, technically one of my halfs was a training run for my 18 mile race. It was also my last PR . . . oops!
I’m not a huge fan of cider donuts, really. I do have one once in a while, but give me something with chocolate cream or some sort of frosting or better yet peanut butter and chocolate . . .
Good luck this weekend! Fingers crossed for you.
Too funny on that PR. I won’t be PRing anything for a while.
I am not a fan of frosting or cream-filled donuts, so these are perfect in my book.
Glad you enjoyed your cider donuts!
Hopefully your Achilles will cooperate so that you can run the Parkway Classic. That was a fun race that I need to do again someday! Warm apple cider donuts are the best!! I’m glad you had a good time!
It was a lot of fun!
Ooh, those cider donuts sound heavenly. I’d easily choose one of those over a whoopie pie!
I think you’re right, but fresh made whoopie pies are pretty good.
Cider donuts > whoopie pie.
Hope the achilles feels good for next week
I converted a deferred 10K into a Half (January) because there’s no 10K in 2022 and I don’t get out of bed in January for a 5K. If it weren’t the penguin, I’d probably have skipped it
That’s a good rule for January racing!
