Back To The Office

For reasons I don’t understand, work blew up this week. I had a 7 am conference call on Tuesday, worked past 9 pm Wednesday and Thursday, and still am behind on several projects. It doesn’t help that I’ve got back-to-back conferences this week, which will make it hard to actually get any work done.

And, I went back to the office Monday and Friday!

Back To The Office

I’m not going to gripe too much about having to go back to the office, but there is no denying that commuting is a waste of time and money. It is good to see co-workers again, but I’m sure the novelty of that will wear off soon. 😉

I will say some colleagues are acting bat-shit-crazy about the handful of employees who are not vaccinated (they told us the number, not the names) and having to wear a mask in open areas even if you are vaccinated–required by local regulations, not our firm. I am grateful I can work in my own office with my mask off, but I don’t think we need to make non-vaccinated people eat lunch outside. Seriously!

Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool

This view is worth it!

What I am finding more stressful is the options. I am a creature of habit (remember my OTF Monday–CycleBar Tuesday-OTF Wednesday–CorePower-Friday routine?), and having flexibility on which days I go to the office and what time I arrive is making me anxious. Don’t get me wrong, I certainly don’t want anyone telling me what to do, but I fret over which is the best day to lose productive time to commuting and if I should go in early enough to do my Washington Monument loop–which means getting my ish together the night before to shower and change at the office gym.

I’m also stressing over today’s business trip. I will be doing everything I have avoided doing for the past 18 months. Wearing tailored dresses that weren’t made by Athleta. Wearing shoes that aren’t made for running. Wearing stockings! Eating inside in a room full of people. Using Uber.

United Airlines Covid Protocol

I wonder how many people will wear their mask between bites and sips?

Weekly Run Down

I had my last shockwave treatment on Friday, and my Achilles continues to improve. I’ve nudged my runs up to the 4-5 mile distance, and will keep them there until my follow-up appointment in three weeks.

Monday: 2 Treadmill Miles + Full Body Strength
I really wanted to take Marcel’s premiere run, so after taking Scooby out I hopped on the treadmill and then did a full body strength workout that literally gave me DOMS for days. Jess’s workouts are so good!

Tuesday: Full Body Strength + 30 min HIIT ride
I was so anxious about my 7 am conference call, I woke up at 4:10 and finally let myself get up at 4:40. I really wanted to take this 30 min HIIT ride, but afterward I really needed a shower, which meant I was still on my first cup of coffee when I logged into TEAMS.

How about that cadence pattern!

Wednesday:  4.4 Scooby Miles +
I stacked two 20 min outdoor runs to cover 4+ miles with Scooby and then did Sam Yo’s light weight arms class which is part of the new Ed Sheeran Artist Series–I loved the variety in the playlist.

Notice the tank top–summer was back!

Thursday: 2.3 Scooby Miles + Lower Body Strength
I wanted to do Robin’s 9/11 Remembrance Run before I forgot about it. It was everything Becs’ run wasn’t–a real remembrance of the day, tribute to the first-responders, and recognition of the victims and their loved ones.

So dark, I needed to use the streetlight for our post-run selfie.

Friday: 4.7 Scooby Miles + Strength for Runners
I was wary of running three days in a row, but wanted to take the new 20 min Ed Sheeran run., which I paired with my favorite 20 min Chase Tucker Punk Rock Run–it was a great combination!

Saturday: Conte’s Hill Ride
It was so humid, but for some reason my average pace was one of my fastest ever–and definitely my fastest this year!

Yes, we have matching kits!

Sunday: Upper Body Strength + 30 min Ed Sheeran Ride
It was hard not to do a short run before my flight, but I wanted to save my Achlles for running in Austin and I was looking forward to this Ed Sheeran ride. It was a fun class that I’d do again–which I don’t say often about the cycling classes. 😉

Thanks to Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down link up.

I can understand that it must be a strange feeling to go on a business and wearing “proper” clothes.
The other week I attended a funeral. I wore a dark outfit with stockings and proper shoes. I haven’t worn clothes like that for 18 months. It felt so strange!
    Good luck!

Ooh! I can’t wait to hear about your runs in Austin. Good luck with it all- my least favorite part would be wearing the non-running shoes. You’ll have to let us know how your fellow airline passengers do with their masks- that’s the first time I’ve seen instructions to put your masks back on between bites and sips!
Glad your achilles is feeling good- sounds like the shockwave therapy really helped.

  3. An awesome week of workouts! I’m looking forward to taking the Ed Sheeran classes. 45 min of Jess’ strength work, tho?!

Sorry to hear work’s been so stressful – I hope all goes well with your work trip.

  4. Good luck on the flight & at the conference, Coco! One of my friends yesterday said the attendants would actually wake them if their son’s (teenage, not young kid) mask slipped down on their flight.

It seems everyone we know is flying somewhere (which of course isn’t true) and like a broken record, we need to see my MIL. I even contemplated driving cross country but now with the husband’s wonky car that’s a hard no.

    Great week Coco, good luck!

I understand how you feel about putting on proper clothes again!
The other week I attended a funeral and wore a dark dress, tights and leather shoes. It felt so strange to wear an outfit after 18 months!
Good luck with the business trip, Coco!

Glad your achilles has been improving! Its so weird being back in the office with lots of other people. (Since Feb there were only a few people back, now we are all back.) I’m in a cubicle but luckily its in the back corner so I can usually take off my mask. Everyone where I work is required to either be fully vaccinated or be tested weekly. I definitely miss the flexibility of working from home!

I am glad your achilles is feeling better! I am sure the whole back to the office thing will take some getting used to again. I did not know people still wore stockings? 🙂 The whole vax not vaxxed thing in the workplace is going to be a big thing for sure. Have a safe trip!

  8. Jessie says:

Sorry to hear how busy work has been. That sounds overwhelming, combined with the return to the office. I’m assuming the unvaccinated have valid reasons not to…but I might be on the anxious side being around them though, it’s so hard right now! Good luck to you.

And good lucky flying and at the conferences!

    • Coco says:

Are concerns that the vaccines are really safe “valid” reasons? I’m trying to be gracious, but …. I try to remember they are at more risk than I am.

  9. Wendy says:

As you know, I’ve been in the office since the pandemic started. We wear masks all the time. Now that we’re seeing COVID symptomatic patients, we have to wear full PPE for that. What really annoys me are the parents who have to continually be reminded to pull their masks up over their noses. And they get annoyed at me! i will tell you that during the beginning of the pandemic, several of the medical assistants contracted COVID and it was linked to eating in the break room…now that we are required to be vaccinated, that shouldn’t be an issue.

I’m so sorry you have to deal with this. And to have to wear stockings on top of it all? :p

    • Coco says:

LOL, the stocking are self-inflicted. I can’t last in heels without them.

Our office is under construction, so there is no break room — people will be eating at theirs desks, I guess. People didn’t want unvaccinated people to be allowed take their masks off ever, even if no one else was around ….

  10. Marcia says:

Sounds like your achilles is healing well! Sorry about all the office drama. I am grateful I can work at home, although Caveman goes in 3-4x/week and is traveling quite a bit. A flight attendant friend of mine said they “suggest” the mask guidelines but don’t enforce it because they don’t want violent incidents on the plane. So sad.

  11. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

Great news on the achilles! Most of my post-run selfies are in the dark now LOL Some under street lights, some not…ugh. Have I ever mentioned how much I want my summer back? The dwindling daylight is a buzzkill. Oh well. I love the matching kits you and the hubby are wearing 😉 We’re trying to plan a century ride with another couple (and possibly a sprinkling of others), and when I suggested matching shirts or jerseys, the guys all vetoed me LOL

    • Coco says:

Oh, gosh, my husband is the one who finds the kits. Be careful what you wish for though — we will have to wear our lederhosen kits soon!

  12. You had a great week of workouts! Work is definitely getting in the way of our workouts now that things are getting more normal. Hope you figure out the work/commute/workout balance.

When we flew to Florida in May, I skipped eating at the airport and in the plane, but it’s a relatively short flight to Fort Meyers.

  13. kookyrunner says:

Oh man, all of that return to office stuff sounds so stressful 🙁 I’m sure you will figure out the best schedule that works for you but it probably seems overwhelming right now.

Happy to hear about the continued recovery for your achilles!

  14. Darlene says:

Going back to the office is stressful. I hated having to get up earlier and look presentable.

Still you dot in so much activity. Kudos to you.

Good luck on your business trip. I have flown twice and felt pretty safe.

  15. Cari says:

Thanks for the reminder about Robin’s run.
Stockings for NEVER. I just can’t, although I’ll occasionally do tights in winter.
We had the meeting about the return. Probably slightly guilty of batshit crazy, although some folks laissez fair ab out it shocks me.

  16. runswithpugs says:

People are WILD right now. I can’t even handle it. The flexibility you are experiencing would make me anxious too.

I’m not ready to fly yet, even domestically. It’s just so chaotic and I’m not mentally prepared.
