It’s the last Friday of the month and the very last day of April, so it is definitely time to gather at Marcia’s runfessional. While my soles always need cleansing, this month I’m focusing on my wrist and sharing my new Garmin runfessions!
My new Garmin Venu Sq
Also join me in the Fit Five Friday Link-Up with Darlene, Michelle, Renée, Jenn, and Zenaida.
Deborah and I will be hosting the May Ultimate Coffee Date next weekend. We’ll open the (link-up) doors Friday May 7th, and keep the coffee brewing.
New Garmin Runfessions
I’ve had my Garmin Fenix 5S for a few years now, and I runfess it still works perfectly. I love how long it stays charged. When I forget to recharge it by the weekend, I love that it can log a long run or 25 mile bike ride on only 10% battery. So what happened?

I runfess I paid under $200 for mine …
Last weekend as I took my husband’s Garmin Forerunner off the charger to charge my Fenix, I was struck by how light it was. I know the Fenix is big and clunky, but I’ve gotten used to it. I runfess that feeling the difference in my hand made me think … and got me browsing the Garmin website.
Garmin lists 18 different models of running watches under its “Women’s Wearables” category. It has several models–including the Venu–that look similar to the Fenix, but the only one that looked sleek enough for all-day wear and had a price point low enough to pique my interest was the Venu Sq.
The Venu Sq doesn’t look much smaller than the Fenix from this perspective
but it has a much slimmer profile and weighs about 1/3 less.
The Venu Sq has most of the features of my Fenix that I actually use, and a full-color LCD display that is quite appealing.
So, what am I giving up? To maximize the battery life, the Venu Sq screen is dark unless I wake it up by tapping the screen, hitting a button, or put it in raise-to-wake mode. I didn’t realize how often I glance at my watch for the time, and now I’m deciding if I really need to know!
The Venu Sq has a much shorter battery life than the Fenix, advertised at up to 6 days in watch mode and up to 15 hours in GPS mode, compared to the 9 days/50 hours of the Fenix. The Venu Sq does not have a barometric altimiter, so the elevation data it provides is based on GPS data and it doesn’t track “floors” climbed. The Venu Sq has a lower water rating and no gyroscope, so it wouldn’t be as good for tracking swimming. But, it still has more features than I will use.
So far I’m happy with my Venu Sq, but I’ll be holding on to my Fenix for longer adventures and travelling–whenever that happens again. 😉
Have you made a fun impulse purchase recently?
That’s a nice looking Garmin! Looks like the Apple Watch. Glad to hear you like it. I have a Forerunner 35 and it’s all I need.
Garmin has so many different models these days it’s hard to keep track! I’ve never heard of the Venu Sq but I’m glad you’re enjoying it so far!
I hadn’t heard of it before either!
OOh I like the looks of that! My Fenix is a few years old now and the battery life is starting to go. I like the looks of this one may have to chat w you about it!
That’s a great looking Garmin! My Forerunner 235 has been quite quirky lately. Now you’ve given me a good reason to wander over tot he Garmin website.
I just learned about the Garmin Venu recently! It looks REALLY interesting. It might be my next Garmin, although I don’t anticipate buying a new Garmin for another couple of years, so who knows what they’ll have by then? Then again, I don’t usually buy the latest & greatest.
So definitely interested in what you think of it!
I’m not sure the Venu sq counts as the latest or greatest — there are much fancier Garmins, but like my iPhone 6, sometimes something simpler is better!
I have an iPhone 6 too. I actually like it but it’s got some quirks. Doesn’t everything?
Oh, I love the slim line look of it!!!!! Who says a sports watch has to look like a sports watch anyways? My Garmin is basic (not even sure what model it is LOL), and that’s all I need from it. I’m so tech-challenged, it would take me forever to figure out any hidden bells and whistles (BTW, I’m sure mine has them).
It’s crazy how many features Garmins have these days.
I love the look of that Garmin watch – very sleek!
Oh thats exciting! Your new watch sounds great! Ive had mine since 2016 or 2017 and its crazy how many updates there are to new watches now.
It looks like a great watch! I have a Garmin 235 that has served me well, but I can imagine that the lighter watches are super nice!
I really like the look of that. I confess, though, I would really love a Fenix.
The Fenix is sweet for sure!
I also am very basic with the forerunner 35. But lately it’s been taking a long time to find the signal, and seems like it needs to be charged all the time. Hmmm! Maybe I also need to browse the Garmin website!
Hmm. Maybe you do! 🙂
I runfess that IMO the square watches look much better than the round ones. I had the square F35 and upgraded for a round F235. I’ve had very good luck with my Garmins and shouldn’t need another one for a good long time, which is why I enjoyed living vicariously through you for this post.
I runfess, I now have Garmin-envy. Your new Garmin looks so pretty and stylish. You could wear it all the time – not just for fitness purposes.
Yes, that’s what I need. I wore my Fenizx all the time too, but it is so big relative to my wrist!
Good luck. Looks like a great purchase. I wore the 205 for years. Finally got the 235. But wear my Apple Watch for everyday use
That is a pretty watch and it looks a lot like the Fenix. I remember when the Fenix first came out and thought they were so pretty and I wanted too. I never did get it and am happy with the ones I’ve bought (225 and 235).
I have had so many Garmins over the years. I have the Fenix now and love it but that new Venu looks nice! I hope it works well for you.
