Pelothon 2020 Week 3 Workouts

Week three of Peloton’s 2020 Pelothon challenge was a marathon, not a sprint. The challenge goal was to do any Peloton workout on 5/7 days. As hooked as I am on Peloton, it should come as no surprise that I earned my badge by Friday.

Reading the fine print, I see that while I’ve earned my “challenge” badge, I won’t get the “special events” badge until Monday.

Pelothon 2020 Week 3 Workouts

Although the week 3 challenge required more workouts than the previous weeks, it was easy to meet. I’ve been doing the Outdoor runs with Scooby and following that up with a core class and/or a stretching class, if not a strength workout or two. So all in all I’ve been logging 2-4 Peloton classes a day.

A few days worth of Peloton classes

My bigger accomplishment this week was finishing my July run streak. I’ve never done a run streak before, for a variety of reasons. In my Before Times schedule, I didn’t have time for a run every morning. Between my work schedule and hating having to shower more than once a day, I never wanted to commit to a goal that would require afternoon or evening runs. I also was afraid of getting injured.

July 2020 Garmin Data

I logged a total of 135 miles in July!

Logistically, my work-from-home status made my July run streak possible. To avoid injury, I stuck mostly to short runs (5K) and, most importantly, made time to stretch and foam roll. Since I didn’t have to rush out the door to beat traffic into the office, I had no excuse!

I’m not planning to continue this particular run streak into August, but I have gotten used to running with Scooby every morning, so I might continue with a shorter route.

Weekly Run Down

Our weather wasn’t as dramatic this week as it has been, but the humidity was a high as ever. That’s another reason to keep my outdoor runs short.

Monday: 3,1 Scooby Miles + 40 min Peloton Strength Workouts

I was glad to see my Garmin data again!

Tuesday: 3.1 Scooby Miles + 30 min Peloton Strength + 10 min Peloton Yoga
I was trying to figure out a new loop, but kept hitting dead-ends on the Seminary grounds. I decided to get a closer look at the big tree that was downed in one of last week’s storms.

I think we could fit in the hole it left in the ground.

Thursday: 3.1 Scooby Miles + 20 min Peloton Strength Workouts
I have a hard time catching the sunrise these days, but I really lucked out on Thursday.

I thought I’d take it “easy” with a 10 min strength for runners class–they usually have a lot of PT-like exercises–but this one surprised me with plyo lunges and jump squats.

Friday: 60 min Peloton Bootcamp
For the second week in a row, my Friday Scooby miles were rained out. After taking him for a walk, I opted for Jess Sims’ 60 min Caribbean Bootcamp to earn my challenge badge.

Her classes are never easy, but this one was particularly hard.

Saturday: 6.5 Scooby Miles + 2 Treadmill Miles+ 10 min Peloton Core Workout
It was in the low 70s, so I took Sccoby on a longer route I hadn’t done in a while. The change of scenery was nice but the humidity caught up with us.

I added a 20 min Peloton Treadmill Run to round up my mileage and finished with a 10 min core workout.

Pelothon 2020 week 3 workoutsNo, I’m not training for a marathon–
most of the 60 min Outdoor runs are in this category.

Sunday: 3.2 Scooby Miles + 10 min Peloton Core Workout
The humidity was back to level “gross” but this 80s Rock Fun Run made it all worth it. Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell” is great for chorus pick-ups and took me back to high school!

Please plan to join the Ultimate Coffee Date link up this weekend–Deborah and I will open the link up on Friday.

Thanks to Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down link up. Even if my weeks are pretty much the same, I enjoy seeing what others are doing.

Do you have new goals for August?

  1. Wow congrats on that run streak! That is a lot of miles especially with out heat and humidity. My August goal is 200 cycling miles which will be a challenge w my 2 short trips for kids’ moves. Thanks for linking

Wow, you covered a lot of ground this week! Congrats on your run streak! July isn’t an easy month for it either, haha! I’m sure Scooby enjoyed it.

    • Coco says:

It’s hard to believe, but I think I’ve gotten used to running in the warm mugginess — as long as I get out before the sun comes up.

  3. kookyrunner says:

Awesome job with your run streak and mileage for July! I also love that you’re able to use so many of the outdoor run and strength classes. Those make for a really nice combo.

I agree with you about the Caribbean Bootcamp. I loved the music but found the class to be harder than usual!

  4. It’s funny, I did do a Peloton “workout” almost every day in July. Some were meditations thought. 🙂

I’m also LOL that our 2 doggy cover photos ended up side by side.

Congrats on your streak — and ending it uninjured! Always feels good to challenge ourselves, righ?

    • Coco says:

I haven’t tried a meditation yet — I might for this week’s challenge goal. It was great to survive my streak uninjured — I tried to be very careful.

      • I’ve liked some of the meditations, but not all. Of course I am big into meditation — that’s part of what helps me destress! Especially when I can’t exercise for whatever reason.

Uninjured is great. Since I’ve been running pretty low mileage for a long time — probably roughly 60 miles a month — my body feels pretty darn good most of the time.

  5. Wendy says:

Run streak and Pelothon? You are a beast! In the best way, of course!

How big is Scooby? I swear in some of those photos, he looks as big as you!

  6. Laurie says:

Your Peloton workouts are impressive. Not to mention a run streak too! You have come roaring back since your injury, Coco. Good for you!

  7. Well done on both your Pelethon challenge AND that run streak! What a solid fitness month for you (and Scooby!)

  8. Cari says:

    80s rock makes everything work!
Congrats on the streak, and pushing through this humidity.
That tree, whoa. I saw it when you posted it this week but think that was on my phone. Crazier at laptop size

    • Coco says:

It was quite impressive. It’s still hard to tell how big it is since it wasn’t fully light out yet, but HUGE is pretty accurate.

  9. Birchwood Pie says:

July is such a tough month for running, so your streak is extra impressive. While I am training for virtual races this fall, I’m also finding that I just wanna run, so that’s making the miles pile up. Maybe after my races I’ll do a streak.

  10. Michelle D. says:

Congrats on your run streak! It looks like we did some of the same Peloton workouts this week 🙂

It’s great that Scooby has been able to run so much with you!

  11. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

Awesome job, Coco…you spanked that run streak, and are big time kicking buttocks with all things Peloton 😉 Run streaks look a little scary and dangerous, but can be done safely…as you executed. Scooby is quite a trooper!

  12. Congrats on your run streak!

I love the 80s and 90s rock/pop runs. Keeps me motivated and makes the run more fun.

Some of my goals are to do more Peloton classes and run more miles than I did in July. I think they’re doable.

  13. Marcia says:

Congrats on completing the run streak! I’m sure Scooby loves the routine. My primary goal this month is to work off all the birthday cake and Ice cream I consumed in July. Ugh.

  14. Chaitali says:

Sounds like a great week! Beautiful sunrise photo 🙂

  15. runswithpugs says:

Yay for completing your run streak and you Pelothon challenge and all of it! Yay for Scooby, too! He’s such a great workout buddy.

My goal for August is to keep on keeping on. It’s really all we can do.

  16. Great job on the run streak! It really was a good time for it. Now that I have a longer commute to work I’ve been skipping out on the stretching post run. And guess what? I’ve been noticing it! You are crushing your Peloton challenges too. Keep it up!

    • Coco says:

Stretching is always the first thing to go, but it does make a difference. Maybe you could take a stretch break at work?

  17. melissa says:

congrats on the run streak AND peloton workouts! That’s so cool that Peloton does running workouts – I had no idea. What are they like?

    • Coco says:

The Peloton running workouts are great. For the Outdoor runs, they lead you through different pace changes. For the treadmill runs, they lead you through pace and incline changes. They also chit-chat to keep your mind off the effort!

  18. Lisa says:

Great job with your run streak and with the challenge! Its nice to have a little more flexibility these days without a commute. If i were to do a run streak, this would be the time to do it!

  19. Wow you’re really killing it on the Pelothon challenge, great job!

I tend not to do run streaks for the same reason- I’m afraid of injury/burn out if I do it longer than a month. I usually do the RW Run Streak twice a year which is just over a month (Memorial day to the 4th of July in the summer and Thanksgiving to New Years in the winter). That’s enough to keep me motivated/challenged without being too much!
