Daily Prayer Podcasts For Lent

One of the ways I am observing Lent this year is listening to daily prayer podcasts. There are so many to choose from these days, I thought it could be helpful to share my favorites.

Forward Day By Day

The Forward Day by Day podcast is brought to you by the same people who publish the quarterly booklet of daily inspirational meditations you may be familiar with. The daily podcasts are just a few minutes long, with a devotion based on a short Bible passage read at the beginning.

Morning Prayer From The Episcopal Church In Garret County

The name of this podcast is self-explanatory. I tend to listen to this one the most because the current day’s episode is available when I’m getting ready to take Scooby out at dark ‘0 clock in the morning (as is the Forward Day By Day podcast). The “meditation music” throws me off a bit, but I’m getting used to it.

Daily Office from Nashotah House

The Daily Office from Nashotah House has recordings of actual morning and evening prayer services, so it seems to be a day behind, but listening to it feels more like you are attending a church service.

This podcast has morning, midday and evening prayer services.

The Daily Office

This podcast is from St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, and some of the readings are chanted. The Morning Prayer podcast isn’t available until 8:00 am, but there is also an Evening Prayer podcast available at 6:00 pm.

ESV Daily Lectionary

This podcast has the readings from the Daily Office Lectionary in The Book of Common Prayer (1979)–the Old Testament, Psalm, New Testament, and Gospel readings are read without prayers.

I still miss hearing David Guthrie’s voice on the New Zealand Morning Prayer podcast he did for many years before he passed away from cancer in 2015. I was so grateful to stumble upon his podcast–and am thankful that I had reached out to him to share my appreciation.
