This week work took me to the Windy City again, and luckily my schedule left room for me to go running in Chicago along the Lakefront. I know I am a city girl at heart, but doesn’t everyone love the Chicago skyline?
Running In Chicago
I have to give props to United for another smooth trip through O’Hare. As I was packing Tuesday night United issued a travel waiver permitting fee-free flight changes because of the cold front–and associated winds–coming in. Although our midday flight likely would be fine, my colleague and I decided to play it safer and switch to a morning flight.
The row across from us–did the travel waiver scare everyone away?
I had checked the weather forecast and packed long sleeves and tights, but when I checked the weather app Thursday morning I think I read the forecasted high instead of the actual temperature (36F according to my Garmin) and headed out in a t-shirt and shorts-Brr!
It was dark when I started at about 6:15, but the Riverwalk and Lakefront Trail are really well lit–and pretty busy with other runners. I didn’t have to be at my work meeting until 9, so I ran for almost an hour. My Garmin says I ran 6.63 miles, but since I didn’t run on the river or zig-zag across the streets, I know that’s not right!
Looks like I forgot to start my Garmin
until after my first photo stop.
My work meeting was starting earlier on Friday–and I had to pack and checkout of my hotel–so I started my run earlier, at about 5:45. This time I did wear my long sleeves and tights!
I ran for about 50 minutes but didn’t cover the 6.2 miles my Garmin gave me credit for. I did run out to the end of a pier to get those last pictures.
The gap between the starting and stopping points
shows the distance between my hotel and Starbucks. 😉
I don’t have anymore trips to Chicago on my schedule, but I’m sure I’ll be back–with my running shoes.
Weekly Wrap
The rest of my week was solid, except it rained during my one window for a bike ride this weekend.
Monday: 45 min strength workout
I’ve been squeezing in short strength workouts, but opted for a longer full-body workout including PT exercises.
What do you mean this mat isn’t here for me?
Tuesday: CycleBar
It had been a few weeks since I made it to CycleBar and it felt good to be pushing myself in Aimee’s class again.
Wednesday: 30 min strength workout
I had to cancel my OTF workout when I changed my flight, but still had time for a decent strength workout at home because I woke up 1/2 hour before my 5:40 am alarm.
Thursday: 6 (?) mile run in Chicago
Friday: 5 (?) mile run in Chicago
Saturday: CPY2 at CorePower Yoga
Since my husband was off camping with his buddies, I was going to do one of the Conte’s group rides, but when I woke up to cold rain I opted for hot yoga instead.
I finally got to wear my new Athleta tights–
thanks to Erica for sharing her fall Friends & Family discount!
Sunday: Rest!
Somewhere along the way of my travels I picked up a virus that left me with a headache and mild sore throat, so I opted for a “rest” day–as long as you don’t count all the housework, laundry, and cleaning I did.

Love your tights, and you got some great photos. Starbucks is essential.
This weather is nuts, but I’m loving the cool turn
I’ve lived here all my life and I never get tired of the skyline. Except for Trump tower that mars the view from the Columbus Drive bridge.
I hope we can run together the next time you’re back!
I usually try to keep it out of the frame but decided it was time to face reality. 😉
I’ll let you know!
Maybe I’m biased but I do think Chicago has one of the prettiest skylines anywhere. Glad you got to enjoy the lakefront. And yes, the weather is bonkers.
I love the Chicago skyline 😉 Well, you know I’m an art geek, so any city skyline (with plentiful high-rise buildings) will make me smile. I love the lakefront path in Chi-town 😉
I loved running in Chicago as well-a fun city. I am so excited for the cooler running temps
I love the leggings you wore for yoga – super cute!
The weather was crazy here this week too. I think we hit 84 degrees on two days, and then the temps dropped down to the 40s and 50s over the weekend.
Cute tights! And I love running in Chicago too. We are visiting our Colorado son this week, so I have to be prepared for winter running. Temperatures in the 20s are in the forecast each morning, and it was snowing there 5 minutes ago when I was talking to my DIL on the phone!
I’m not ready for snowy running yet — my daughter is in CO and she got snow. 😉
I hate unrestful rest days! It’s so rare to really be able to rest. I hope you’re feeling better.
I’ve only been to Chicago a couple of times, long before I was a runner. Running along the Lake must be great but I would’ve bailed if I’d dressed the way you did on a such a cold day!
I love Sccoby’s face. Whenever I get a yoga mat out, my cat sprawls out. It definitely makes it a challenge. And lucky you getting a whole row to yourself! I haven’t been able to get that in years.
Chicago is such a pretty city! However, I’ve run there twice (both were races) and have yet to run along the riverfront or lakefront. I guess I’ve crossed the river a few times though. I love the new tights. I hope you virus is short lived. Thanks for linking!
30 Degrees! Ugh that feels like Utah lately.
my daughters birthday is this week and it’s also fall break, so we have lots of random fun things planned to keep kids busy.
Chicago looks like an amazing city! What a great place to run. Love your pics. I’m not ready for winter weather yet! 🙂
Love your photos from your Chicago runs! And your Athleta tights are so cute!
Nice job! I had some nice summer runs when I was there a few summers ago…but I hope my next trip there will be to run the Chicago marathon!
Wow, that shot of Chicago is beautiful! Those Athleta tights are super cute!
Love those Athleta tights!
Chicago got as cold is Minneapolis. Great running weather though! Awesome job fitting in fitness on the road!
Love your Chicago faces but your watch went a bit funny, didn’t it!! Love the new yoga tights, too.
I miss Chicago and since our son and d-i-l no longer live there and I don’t have a real reason to visit, I’m considering attending a fitness conference there again next October.
Hope you’re feeling better!
I’ve dealt with a lottt of delays and cancellations so I don’t have much trust in airports/flights and try to always leave lotttts of leeway, hehe. I’d love to visit Chicago someday!
