I always say that my favorite thing about blogging is the supportive community I’ve found in my little corner of the blogosphere. With every post, we share a little bit of ourselves and make connections that sprout into friendships. The Friday Five link up hosted by Courtney, Mar and Cynthia is one of the first places I found to hang out with fellow fitness bloggers and share insights on fun topics.
For the last installment hosted by the D.C. Trifecta, I’m celebrating five things I’ve loved about their link up.
Celebrating The Friday Five Link Up
1. The Party. Some bloggers refer to link ups as link up parties, and I think the Friday Five link up fits that description well. Courtney, Mar and Cynthia have been gracious hosts, welcoming all participants and making sure everyone plays nicely. I always looked forward to the link up as a transition from my work week into the weekend, when I have more time to visit and comment on other blogs.
2. The RSVP Deadline. At first I found it hard to write posts that fit the Friday Five theme, but as it became a regular entry on my blog calendar I started thinking in fives. (Apparently, I’m not the only one!) Even when my schedule didn’t leave much time for blogging, I made an effort to write a Friday Five post so I could participate. Of course, I can keep writing posts with a Friday Five theme, but I will miss the structure of the RSVP “deadline” the regular link up provided.
3. The Guests. The main reason I enjoyed participating in the Friday Five link up so much is because the other participants actually participated. Yes, it’s fun to read other blogs, but it’s also nice to know that others enjoyed reading your blog enough to leave a comment. It’s through exchanging comments that blogging becomes a more personal experience and sparks friendships that spread across social media and into “real life.”
4. The Party Favors. Party favors may be out of favor at children’s parties these days, but I’ never leave the Friday Five link up empty handed. I have found new songs for my running playlist, new recipes to try, and new fitness gear I can’t live without.
5. The Hosts. As I mentioned above, Courtney, Mar and Cynthia have been great hosts. I know they’ve said that they still plan to keep blogging, but I will miss our Fridays together. I’ll just have to catch up with Cynthia and Mar at Core Power Yoga, and run into Courtney in Chicago again. 🙂

I also want to give a shout-out to the other great link ups I participate in:
The Weekly Wrap, hosted by Holly and Tricia (opens Sunday afternoon)
Meatless Mondays, hosted by Deborah and Sarah.
Tuesdays On The Run, hosted by Erika, Marcia, and Patty.
Wednesday Word, hosted by Deb.
Runfessions, hosted by Marcia on the last Friday of the month.
I’d love for you to mark your blogging calendars for the Ultimate Coffee Date link up Deborah and I host on the first Saturday of the month.
Do you have another favorite link up I should check out?
I”m so grateful for all the connections I’ve made through the Friday Five! I’ll miss it!
You’re lucky you get to hang with them in RL! Wish we had such a thriving blogging community.
TOLT, from runningwithspoons.com, is another favorite for me — took me a while to find my voice for that one!
I’ll check that one out.
I love your post. This is so perfect for the final Friday Five linkup. Like you, I have so enjoyed “meeting” other runners through the internet and specifically the blog linkup on Friday. Meeting the people in person is a huge bonus and hopefully our paths will cross in the future. Yes, I also have found gear I can’t live without through the links!
It really is amazing the connections we make through our blogs!
I love your post. So glad to have gotten to know you better through blogging and then in real life as well 🙂 I know I will miss the FF – especially the first couple of Fridays without it. But we figured it was better to go out on a high note 🙂
So true! You don’t want to go down as that blog link up that jumped the shark. 🙂
I will miss the Friday five as well! I like that you say you never leave empty handed! I to love learning something new from a blogger!
Let’s continue to stay in touch!
Absolutely! I’ll have to get back to using Bloglovin’ to keep up!
Aw, it makes me so sad that they are not going to be doing the link ups anymore! I also thought in fives for Friday and looked forward to participating. I do the Weekly Wrap as well now and am really enjoying it, as well as Tuesdays on the Run. I try to hop in on the Coffee Date one, but don’t make it every month. I will for November though! 🙂
We’ll look forward to seeing you on November 5th!
It is fun to get know everyone through the comments and the posts! It is nice you became friends with the host 🙂
I use to feel very nervous about meeting bloggers friends but I really enjoy it now! It feels like you are meeting an old friend 🙂
I have found that we always have a connection already. Although it can be awkward to know so much about someone you are meeting for the first time face to face.
I love your reference to guests. So many people participate and reciprocate by commenting on blogs, I love the positive environment. Love all the other link ups you have mentioned too ! Nothing to add there.
Like everyone else, I have loved the Friday Five (and all the wonderful peeps who have participated)! I need to make a calendar (I know….I ‘m absent-minded and keep forgetting to make the calendar LOL) with all of the link-ups on it. I know I will never be able to do every link-up each week, but it’ll give me a little more structure for planning my posts better. I will try to remember your Coffee link-up…I often read it, I just usually forget it’s happening until I see the posts.
I’ll try to remind you about the next one – November 5th!
Aw, you’re so sweet! I’ve loved getting to know you and glad you’ve been able to link up with us over the years! Let’s definitely plan yoga soon!
Yes, I haven’t been to CPY in G’town for a while – I’ve hit up Clarendon on the weekend a few times.
I guess I met you through the Friday Five as well! I had forgotten about that!
Right?! It’s amazing how many friendships started there.
