Fun At The Harbor With Fit Plus Harbor East

I always say the best thing about blogging is the friends I’ve made, and this weekend I got to see Margarita who was my roommate at FitSocial a few years ago (time really flies!) and Mar whom I first got to know through the Friday Five Link Up, when we met up at the Baltimore Inner Harbor for the Fit Plus Harbor East fitness festival.

I heard about the event from Margarita, but Mar heard about it from Lauren–who was one of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run bloggers with me this year. It’s so great to have a network of fitness-minded friends who spread the word about fun things like this!

The event was FREE but I bought a $15 tank top because 100% of those proceeds were going to the American Heart Association which is one of the organizations I support. After an easy drive up the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, I got to the Inner Harbor at about 8:30 and caught up with Mar in the check-in line. We found Margarita in time for the first activity–a 3 mile run around the inner harbor.

I was worried about running so “late” in the day, but there was a nice breeze along the water and even some shade. I haven’t been to the Inner Harbor since Fitbloggin’ was there a few years ago, and forgot how gorgeous it is.

Looks like my camera lens got a bit sweaty! :-0

After that, I did part of the MAC Attack workout, which was a cardio workout with some punching and kicking. When they got out the boxing gloves, I decided to take a break and cool down before yoga.

We put our mats down in the street and were led through 30 minutes of yoga by an instructor from the Federal Hill CorePower Yoga studio. It felt a lot like a CPY2 class–my favorite!

Luckily we picked the shady side of the street!

We all wanted to do the November Project workout (mis-labeled above as Bootcamp) so we skipped Zumba to get some water and try some of the “fit” snacks Whole Foods was sampling.

beet juice, yogurt with blueberries and granola, mango chia pudding

Margarita had joined a few November Project workouts before, but Mar and I were new to their “playground” style workouts. It was fun, but we did way too many push-ups and squats!

We did 10 minutes of a card-based workout:
Red card (hearts, diamonds) = push-ups; Black card (spades, clubs) = squats.
Pick a card and do the number of reps corresponding to number on the card.
Run to one of the four smiley faces drawn in chalk on the sidewalk.
Repeat four times until you’ve tagged each smiley face.
Run down to the far corner and back.
Repeat.

Mar caught me mid push-up.
She also caught me mid squat, but I’m not sharing that one. 😉

You can get a sense of the chaotic fun in this picture.

After  10 minutes of that, we took a break for a rock-paper-scissors contest. I won three times before getting ousted in the finals. 🙂  Then we did another 10 minutes of the card workout, then we finished with a 3-minute workout:

1 minute of squats + 1 minute of lunges + 1 minute of push-ups

Then we were done!

We skipped the last workout and headed to Sweetgreen to refuel before heading home. The whole event was a lot of fun and definitely worth watching for next year.

It was fun but it’s not really my thing. I’d rather maximize my workout time and have social time after. 🙂
