If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am in for a busy weekend. Today we are going to visit my son at college, and I promised to bring him some homemade chocolate chip cookies. I usually follow the Toll House recipe on the package of Nestle semi-sweet chocolate morsels, but I am tempted to try one of these variations. Which looks best to you?
We’re going up for lunch, because tomorrow is my first race of 2016–the Reston 10 Miler! (Did you see my five goals for this race?) I know spending most of the day in the car isn’t the best way to prepare for a race, but some things are more important than race times. 😉
If we were having coffee, I’d ask you if you’ve heard about the changes to the Starbucks Rewards program coming in April. After I wrote this post explaining some of the main changes, I realized that I should redeem the star codes on the packages of grocery store-bought coffee I have in my freezer. Now those codes are worth 1/12 of a reward item, but in April they will only be worth 10/125 of a reward item, which is just enough less to annoy me!
If we were having coffee, I would ask if you did anything special to enjoy February 29th? I was on a business trip so I feel like I lost out on that extra special day.

Did March come in like a lion or is it teasing you with spring weather?
Ooh melted butter and Tha all brown sugar!!
Safe travels and enjoy your visit.
Have a great race…your goals are perfect!
Nothing special on the 29th…just another day 🙂
Have a great weekend enjoy!
I think if we get an extra day in the month it should be an extra Saturday! I am with you- I was suck in an office 🙁 Enjoy the weekend college visit and there is nothing better than the original tollhouse cookies if you ask me! Good luck with your race- you got this! 🙂
yes seeing your kids is far more important than a race time-have a great visit. I am a traditional toll house cookie girl but I add extra vanilla and use the chunkier chips. I still haven’t figured out if that new Starbucks system will work for me. I’m off to do my long run this morning hoping for 8-9. Can’t believe it’s almost time for CB.
I’ve always used the recipe on the Tollhouse bag. Your link explains why sometimes mine turn out different though. Sometimes, I melt the butter. Sometimes, I may only have one type of sugar. I never got into the Starbucks rewards program (I don’t know WHY). I doubt I will with the new changes either. Good luck with your 10 miler today. Thanks for the linkup.
Nope, nothing special on the 29th. Same old, same old.
I don’t think being in a car is that terrible before a race, if it’s not for hrs & hrs (at least it prevents you from doing too much), and you’re right, family is more important!
I’m a traditional Toll House girl myself but I think I’d be tempted to try the brown sugar or melted butter versions. I bet being the car for a while won’t hurt your race efforts – and you are so right about some things being more important! Have fun visiting your son and good luck with the 10-miler!
Good morning! I am really annoyed by the Starbucks change. I was kind of late to jumping on the Starbucks train, but once I got hooked I felt like I could potentially justify certain spending if I was getting enhanced rewards (like special star bonuses, etc.) Now it seems like it won’t be worth it at the reduced star rate and that’s a huge bummer to me. 🙁
Well, they are promising bonus star days and such, and something for “free” is better than nothing I guess.
Your son is so lucky to have a mother visit him with home made cookies. That is the best, especially when you have to pull those all nighters. Good luck tomorrow on your first race. I still haven’t run mine for this year.
So fun visiting with your son. I have a love hate relationship with baking cookies so anything that actually turns out is great.
Hah! I’ve been baking cookies since I was a kid, so I’m pretty good if the recipe’s not too fussy.
I’m going to have to check out the Starbucks changes. I use the app a lot to pay when I travel and definitely want to sure I understand the new rules. Thanks for sharing that! I’m with you – 10/125 is enough a difference that I would redeem them now too.
Well we don’t have a Starbucks in our town, so I have not paid attention to the changes. I’ve spent hours in the car before and after races, sometimes it is unavoidable. My extra day in February was spend trying to get payroll done, it’s always the last day of the month, and Monday’s are well, Monday’s at work and it’s also my biggest blog day with our Weekly Wrap link up. I am sort of glad it is over, lol. Thank you Coco for coffee, I have about finished mine so it is off to the RV show we came to see. Have a great weekend!
Hah, yes with all your road trips, you probably are used to being in the car (or RV) before a race. I’ll be by Monday with my race recap. 😉
I heard about the Starbucks rewards changes and they’re rather disheartening! I hate when rewards programs dwindle down like that!
Hope you have an awesome weekend visiting with your son (I bet he’ll appreciate those cookies! :D)!
Yeah, I guess the good deal got too popular. I think he enjoyed the visit and the cookies. 😉
Does Starbucks not make enough money that it has to change how it rewards the consumers that pay them all that money??:( I’ll probably be going there less and less
Well, even when the baristas at my Starbucks were really rude, I still went there almost every day, so having to wait longer for a reward won’t change my habits.
I love Starbucks but I am kind of sad about the new rewards program. I’m a café misto girl so I spend less than if I were to get a regular latte. Of course, there are always muffins to buy… sigh…
I worked on the 29th so nothing special. But I did hit a new PR in bench press- so that was pretty exciting!
Hey – that’s another reason to celebrate! The calorie count signs keep me away from the muffins — or make me decide that I might as well just have a brownie. 🙂
Good luck on your race tomorrow!

I’m glad that you broke down the Starbucks rewards! Honestly, I received the email and just skimmed it before deleting. I don’t go often enough for it to make a difference, but it is good to know the details!
Good luck in your 10 miler and have fun visiting your son!
I hope you have a great race and am heading to check out your goals now. Thanks for hosting!
i didn’t do anything for 29th..i need to read up on starbucks rewards program. thank you for sharing
March has been sooooo sunny here in London (UK) but soon cold (probably normal for winter but its been a warm winter!) …Feb 29th was a normal monday for me, it was strange to start the week in Feb and then the rest of the entire week was march! Can’t believe how fast the year is going though 🙂
That is quite an analysis of cookies! I think I’d go for either melted butter or the baking soda/powder combo. Who am I kidding? I’d go for ALL!
I redeemed my at-home coffee codes as well. Haha! Great minds.
Hope your weekend was lovely ! how did you do on your race ?
I don’t even know what Starbucks does here in France for a loyalty program… there are too few here, and not conveniently located, for me to be a loyal customer !
I hope you had a nice visit with your son! And good luck on your race! I can’t believe I’m running a half marathon on Saturday….it just came so fast!
