My husband keeps his car immaculate. He even bought a miniature trash can that fits in a cup holder so he has a proper place for small items of trash. I, on the other hand, treat my car like the thing it is–a giant purse stocked with whatever I might need in an emergency.
I have a first-aid kit and a spare tire, but what I really care about is keeping my car ready for fitness opportunities.
1. Gym Bag. I keep a small gym bag packed with everything I need for indoor cycling–shoes, socks, hair band, and clean shirt for afterwards. I usually go to indoor cycling before work, but this way I’m ready in case I can make it to a “happy hour” ride.
2. Yoga Mat. Unlike the gym bag I used this week, I can’t tell you the last time I needed my spare yoga mat–probably at the Sweat Pink Athleta event in May? But if a spontaneous yoga opportunity presents itself, I am ready.
3. Emergency Snack. I usually plan ahead and bring a snack if I think I’ll need one, but I try to keep my car stocked with an emergency snack to prevent a hypoglycemic crash or fuel a shopping trip workout. Lately I’ve been enjoying the serving size options of peanut butter cracker sandwiches. I can eat one or two on my way home, or four or six on the way to a run.
This picture shows some of the miscellaneous personal items I keep in my car.
I use that lip balm all the time!
4. Water Bottle. I couldn’t take a picture because I need to restock, but I try to keep a spare bottle of water in my car. I usually bring a refillable water bottle wherever I go, but having extra water on hand is a good way to be prepared for any emergency.
5. Gym Towel. The way I sweat, I need to keep a gym towel in my car to (a) wipe my face and (b) protect my car from the sweaty mess I become after a run or spin class.
With these things on hand, I am ready for whatever fitness opportunities come my way!

Do you keep your car ready for fitness “emergencies”?
My workout is done before I even get into my car….I don’t drive to my workouts.
Me too – except for spinning – but I like to be ready for other options!
More people need to do this! It really helps to have your car ready so you don’t make excuses for yourself!
Fun post! Yea to all of these and I always have a stash of MRTT cards to hand out to random people on the trail
I love that you’re ready for spontaneous yoga breakouts! I probably should start keeping an emergency snack in the car as well. That’s a good idea 🙂
This is such a great idea; I always say that I’m going to put together a little “kit” for my car and I haven’t done it. You may have been just the motivation I need!! Thanks so much and I hope you have a great weekend!
Lip balm ! I hate having chapped lips. I also have an extra towel to protect my car seats so they are not all sweaty.
Ha! Everything that you have in your car? I carry around in my bag that I schlep around the city! Man, I wish I had a car 🙂
LOL! That’s quite a tote bag I’m sure.
LOL! You and I are driving the same car! Love it !
I am going to start keeping an empty water bottle in my car. So many times I forgot my water bottle then I have to buy one at gym. So that way if I have one I can just fill it up at the gym.
Love how prepared you are (and the graphic to this post is on point!) The towel is an absolute must!!!!!
Thanks! I hate it when I’m all sweaty and don’t have a towel. I also try to keep some of those Shower Wipes on hand.
Sort of. I have a pack of wipes in the console. An extra pack of Chamois Butt’r. Safety pins. Blankets in the back. A sweatshirt.
I guess I do keep myself prepared!
Yep! It’s funny how those things add up. I think I have a spare pair of gloves in the trunk somewhere from sports-watching days.
I’ve started leaving my extra yoga mat in my car too. That is a good idea to leave some snacks in there as well.
I’m always hungry, so snacks are always a good idea in my book!
Snacks are essential.
My car is pretty immaculate too. I have a few things in my center console, and always a water bottle. Otherwise I keep a gym bag on hook right inside the door and just grab it if I think it’ll be needed. My desk at work has a pair of walking shoes and spare snacks, though. I just hate clutter in my car.
I always have a yoga mat and snacks in my car!
