What Motivates You ?

Today’s Wednesday Word is a challenging one for me right now: MOTIVATION.

mo•ti•va•tion — a reason to act in a certain way

Of course, I am thinking about my motivation to work out.

It’s easy to be motivated when there’s a race on my calendar, or when I am meeting women from my MRTT group for a long run, or when I am exploring a new city before a work conference. But it’s hard to stay motivated when I have to face another day of lifting weights in my basement or getting through another yoga workout.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy doing weights and I know yoga is good for me, but I prefer heart-pumping, sweaty workouts. Luckily, I can still do indoor cycling at Revolve.

I’ll be burning through my ride package with my new 3x/week schedule!

What Motivates You

What motivates me is that I enjoy working out. I enjoy having worked out. I enjoy how I feel when I am working out on a regular basis.

I have a more positive outlook, better self-esteem, and more energy.

I also am motivated by fear. Fear of losing my mojo. Fear of getting used to sleeping in. Fear of losing my fitness level.

What motivates you?

not to copy you but these days? FEAR HERE TOO 🙂
it motivates me to get up and STEAL my quiet time.
it motivates me to MOVE when I have the moments as I may not get ’em later.
    for now? it works.
    FOR NOW.

I am motivated to uphold my habit of working out. I know that if I don’t I’ll feel crappy. And fall in to the habit of being lazy.

  3. Wow, I never thought of fear as a motivator but it’s so true! I’m motivated because I fear that I won’t challenge myself, or become lazy. Now that I have a daughter I am motivated to show her what a strong mama looks like!

  4. definitely motivated by the high I get from a great sweat session!

I totally agree with this–motivating to run, to do something we love, isn’t hard. Yet when injured, getting up to face things we’re not so fond of is tough. Keep it up–it will pay off when running returns to you.

  6. HoHo Rins says:

Oh yes! The fear of losing fitness is a huge motivator.

  7. Fear motivates me a LOT – fear of not making cutoffs in races because I’m very very very slow. I cannot imagine that agony if I know that I haven’t done everything I could’ve in training. If I put in my best effort in training, race day is just a finale and what happens – happens.

I love the link up and finding new blogs 🙂
I agree with all your reasons, I sometimes wonder what life would be if I didn’t work out, but I would miss those sweaty sessions and I am sure I would feel a lot grumpier lol

    • Coco says:

I guess I know what life would be like without workouts, since I lived that live until I was 30! I like this life better. 😉

  9. Anne says:

I agree, it’s much harder to motivate to do the non-run workouts! But I think about how it’ll make me stronger and more injury-proof, and that helps a lot. And give me a race on the schedule every time . . .

  10. I so know what you mean about fear of loosing your mojo! Last year I did several half marathons every other weekend and when I quit I was so scared I wouldn’t be able to run that distance again. I’m scared if I go several days without running I’ll just loose everything, crazy I know….

  11. The fear of loosing muscle that I’ve worked so hard to maintain is real, and that motivates me to lift. I love your mention of a fear of getting used to sleeping in – that can be real!

    Thanks for linking up!

  12. Meagan says:

A race on the calendar or a buddy waiting at the trail for you are both great motivators! When I don’t have those motivators it’s a bit harder – but if I remember how good it feels to run, and how good I feel afterwards, that usually gets me out the door!

  13. I am motivated by the desire to keep improving and the fear of what will happen to my physical and mental heath if I stop.
